Going for a walk and taking some ace pictures. where is the 'Like' button? I hope Santa calls in at the camera shop on his way to my house! He should also pick up a copy of 'Taking photos for dummies' and wrap them both together! ;D

I've been contemplating buying a new camera and am doing my best to let everyone around me know about it ;D *grabs empty coffee jar* *scrawls "Camera Fund" with texta* *places in middle of kitchen floor*Now the snow I can't really comment on as I don't live anywhere near it, but I agree, it's a brilliant forum for photography.

Those camera manufacturers are annoying at times, the 'like' button is disguised as 'Program mode'. And here's one I did earlier, that's my Christmas card sorted.

The best thing about snow days is when the landscape looks white and pretty after a snowfall, and the way it always seems so peaceful and quiet while it is snowing. I love that.

Watching the snow fall when it starts to get dark. There's something really special about the way the snowflakes look in the lights of streetlamps and passing cars - and I get exactly what XJ means about the way the snow makes everything seem quiet. I just love it. It makes me feel five years old all over again.
(and yes, I know, I am pretty much an overgrown five year old... )

I feel exactly the same way Wy. Our house looks out on woodlandand and over the last few days I keep reciting Robert Frost's 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.'It makes me feel happy.

In the US, a "snow day" is a day when school is canceled because of bad (usually snowy or icy) weather. Does it mean the same thing in the UK?

Do they generally shut down businesses for snow? Typically no, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Once when I was in Kansas City there was a massive ice storm that cut power to half the city. A lot of businesses had to close because they had no electricity.

In the US, a "snow day" is a day when school is canceled because of bad (usually snowy or icy) weather. Does it mean the same thing in the UK? Yes, but it also includes workplaces. It might sound strange but although the UK gets snow every winter, much of the country doesn't get a lot of snow, and when it does it rarely lasts long. This means that much of the country is barely equipped to deal with it and it's not really financially viable for a lot of local authorities to put severe weather infrastructure in place... so everything pretty much stops.

Still not much snow here in west London. All this talk on the news about snow and the resulting disruption, but only a light dusting here. I live in hope that we'll still get a decent snowfall at some point.

I love snow - as long as I don't actually have to do anything or go anywhere in it!
I used to say that the only time it should be allowed to snow is by starting at 6pm on Christmas Eve, snowing through the night so that Christmas Day and Boxing day are beautiful, then all gone when we wake up the day after Boxing Day.

Don't worry we don't have old cars on the back, but nothing much grows , I think its down to the dog and my youngest brother killing the lawn. ;D

This may sound daft but I've justy returned from a two mile 'snow walk,' and it was fabulous. Everything was peaceful and quiet, there were very few people about, and no cars.

There is now about a centimetre of snow on the ground here in west London, which finally fell on Wednesday evening. It's better than nothing but, compared to other parts of the UK, it's still a somewhat pitiful effort. Oh well...
