That's quite an icicle, Ly. Sadly, the only ice around here is on the ground, where you can slip over on it and, in my case, end up with rather sore knees. That's one reason I'd prefer deeper snow; it would be less likely to turn to sheet ice, and therefore easier to walk on.

I'm fine, Dit. I was carrying a full shopping bag on my shoulder (it's a long-handled bag), when my foot slipped on some ice. The weight of the bag meant I couldn't recover my balance, and I ended up on the ground, with my knees taking the brunt of it. They're OK now, but I spent the rest of yesterday wincing every time I had to kneel.

You have my sympathies XJ. I did a similar thing. I was loaded with food shopping bags in both hands unloading from the car to the house when I slipped on gravel on the path washed down from my neighbour's drive by a thunderstorm. I went down heavily on both knees, compounded by the extra weight of the bags. Ouch! One knee was just bruised and soon recovered but I must have chipped my kneecap or something with the other. It was tender for months, and silly me never got it checked out. It was OK till I caught it on something but then it was agony! Now, nearly two years later, I still have to think before kneeling in case I aggravate it !

Well, I've had three and a half days off work because of the snow. Work's decision. not mine. I think it's time that I dug out the car, as surely I'll be back at work on Monday!

That's why my aunt always calls snow "potential mud".

... Going for a walk with the dogs, take pictures of everything that's covered with snow, see people having difficulties with riding their bikes, play in the snow, follow people's tracks.

*sees this thread here too* The best thing about snow days is actually GETTING ONE DECLARED. Over here they typically just mean that school's are closed, and a lot of the time it's because it's unsafe for the kids to wait outside for the bus for very long. Although you can usually get away with calling into work if the roads are really bad and it'll take hours to get there. But best part was going back to bed, reading a book with hot chocolate, and then later on building a fort, and of course lobbing snowballs at my brother. Now I throw them at my husband, which is also fun. We're a couple of five-year-olds in the snow given half a chance. They don't happen too often where I live, harsh winter conditions being the rule. And reading the old thread, I saw where people were saving up for a camera. I'm sorely tempted to do that, but I wanted to use my crappy retail job money to travel a bit. But my camera is a bit long in the tooth.

If I actually got a whole day off because of a snow storm, it would have to be an apocalyptic storm. Once in a while, I might get to close an hour or two early, but that's it. I used to love snow days off from school. But those were far and few between as well.
