Very intersting i must say i'm a fussy eater lol.Isn't it funny with kids espically they don't like a certain food but when it comes to having meal with that food in it they like it&i'm like lol(i work in childcare so i see it at times) But having said that i'm like to.....it's strange how the mind/taste buds works

It's partly the eye - I guess it's hard to make a connection between a big round shiny tomato and the sauce on pizza, especially when you can hardly see the sauce with all the other stuff loaded on top as well.

I eat anything and everything and have done from an early age. I am willing to give everything a go. My gran was particularly fond of the tripe and offal shop, hence meals of tripe, cows heel and udder. My son had one dislike as he was growing up, and that was peas. I guess if we shut our eyes to eat we would all like a lot more things

Good article. I really must try to read more of Mindy's writing. I'm the same as Izzy; I can't stand cheese, but I love pizza. It's the only time I'll touch cheese. I suppose the other flavours camouflage it enough for me to be able to manage it. All I know is that pizza is yummy! ;D

I'll eat almost anything - the other day I cooked pig's trotters for dinner and they were nommy - but I draw the line at tomatoes. Tomato sauce is fine, and ketchup is fine, but tomatoes They are like big gigantic squishy bugs, with shiny shells and squidgy guts!

I love fresh tomatoes, and I like tomato pastes and sauces, but I don't like stewed tomatoes.
A cool tomato on a hot day can be a wonderful thing.

I tried to grow tomatoes in the summer because although I hate them, I do like tomato sauce. Do you know how many tomatoes my three growbags achieved? None. Absolutely none at all. I had twelve beautiful bushy plants that I grew myself from seed. They flowered. They looked brilliant. They didn't make any tomatoes. At all. Clearly, they hate me as much as I hate them

Tomatoes come in all sorts. I always use the ones like Tasty Tom. Very solid. Don't have much patience with picky eaters, I'm afraid. I'm doing the family Christmas diner this year and have now been told my teenage niece and nephew don't like vension or potato gratin. Well, they will be served the first microwave diner I'll encounter when I'll be doing my final shopping next week. No way, I'm cooking two meals.

My brother-in-law is a picky eater (either that or he doesn't have much appetite) who typically has Thanksgiving and Christmas with my parents. My mother (who, it must be admitted, is a little touchy) is always somewhat hurt and offended by the way he takes four things, all beige, and turns up his nose at everything else.
And then goes out for McDonald's later.
She's been trying to vary the menu, he's been learning to at least sample everything. I hope eventually they'll meet in the middle. Neither he nor my sister really have the wherewithal to live on watercress and caviar, though they sometimes act like it.

I told my niece and nephew the first course would be "vegetable soup", which the pumpkin & ginger & parsley soup I have planned technically is. ;D

Apparently I'm picky - because I "won't" eat meat. I'm not picky though - the amount of times I've said that I'm perfectly happy with a large pile of potatoes and veg at Christmas...no need to start harrumphing and trying to find some wizened bit of well-past-its-best fish from the back of the freezer.
However, this year will be a good laugh, as my mum will also be there on Christmas Day, in the mouth of the Outlaw Butchers Christmas cave ;D and she's a mile worse than I am, and she's ill so they can't take it out on her ;D ;D might be I'm going to be milking this Christmas for all it's worth.

I'm not picky at all. Tomatoes and blackcurrants are about the only things I don't like, and even then it's only if they're raw. On the other hand, I will happily eat offal, last weekend I had pig's feet for the second time within a month, I regularly make stew out of pig's cheeks or cow's diaphragms (rather prettily known as 'beef skirt') and I absolutely love game. I probably wouldn't eat cat, partly because I like cats, but mainly because they're purely carnivores and carnivore flesh isn't generally very good to eat. I'm desperate to go to France and try Ortolan bunting, but the law makes that virtually impossible to get now. None of those things phase me at all. Whole tomatoes, on the other hand, are disgusting and nasty, so there.

It always struck me that you'd need a lot of them, as they're so little. I can do you a cut price zebra finch ;D some might say very, very 'cheep'.

I suppose it would work with a zebra finch, but I don't think the RSPCA would be very pleased if I started drowning pet birds in armagnac...

Not sure what armagnac is, but if it's an expensive alcohol the bird might thank you.
Anyway, you'd want to scald the cheepies before devouring. Only cats like to eat feathers.
There's another food item, supposedly quite good but high on the gross-out factor, called balut, which is a fertilized duck egg near the end of development (if you're picturing a duck embryo still in the shape of an egg, you're right). Looks hideously vile, but it's a popular snack in Southeast Asia.

Ah yes, I've heard about that. Not sure whether I fancy it, but I'd probably try it anyway. It's supposed to be a delicacy, right? It's only polite to find out. I'm less inclined towards the idea of century eggs, but that's mainly because the smell of ammonia makes me gag a bit. Salted eggs are OK though

That actually sounds fine to me - it's not made from cow's milk, so it won't give me a grumpy tummy Think I'd evacuate the maggots though, because although I have eaten meal worms, they were dead and cooked before I ate them...

Sheesh! I know Richard doesn't like fish or crab, or even lamb brains. I'm getting older and I'm trying more things. I've discovered a real love for haddock and salmon, also crab when I would previously never touch the stuff. Some things I cannot touch, not by like or dislike, but by allergies, nuts being the big one.
