This was very interesting to watch, John Myatt is obviously a very talented artist in his own but clearly he struggled with this style of painting. But the end result was very good, he wasn't out to "copy" per se just but his own twist on the original.
I think James looked a bit unsure about the end result but quite pleased to immortalized in paint at the age of 25 ;D and who wouldn't be quite honestly.
A good program, I look forward to Steven Fry's episode.

I thought this programme was really good. Very interesting and informative. Definitely worth a look if possible.

I liked the programme, but didn't like the picture. I liked James comment on the woman in the picture who looked like an old girlfriend, but was too posh for his liking, as he liked a woman to be more arty and dishevelled .When asked who he would chose, he said the one I live with, a Spice girl ,Faye Dunnaway or Penelope Keith. I think the artist really did struggle with the painting, and I wondered if james was just been polite saying he liked it, or whether he really did.

Interesting programme. James was familiar with the original and seemed genuinely interested as to how he would fit into it. He asked a couple of perceptive questions for someone who claims not to be artistic and pinpointed the difference between technique and artistic creativity.
I do like the way he repeated comments he's made over the years about preferring the lady/ladies in his life to be arty and a bit dishevelled, possibly because I'm....well, you get the idea!
I agree that Myatt clearly found this style hard work. Anyone who works in the traditional genre would find this technique a challenge. I liked him; I understood what he was trying to achieve. I felt that James was surprised but impressed with the end result, but genuinely liked it.
I do wonder if James meant Felicity Kendal rather than Penelope Keith, though. And is it lew who has expressed a wish for James' eyebrows to be trimmed? Good to know he did that for this programme!

If James likes Penelope Keith that just endears him to me even more. ;D My Hubby likes her. ;D

I have searched the internet for a torrent, but so far to no avail. Even TheBox is letting me down on this one. :-(
Has anyone else managed to download it?

Loved the program! I was nervous for James! The initial sketch he did of James was quite good. ;D
Could have used less Hyundai commercials in the second half though. Do they honestly think I'm going to go out and buy an Elantra just because they kept interrupting the program at crucial moments to show me kids in beds that are too short for them!?

Little bump, but has anyone noticed an odd coincidence?
When the TG3 had to justify the art/design element of cars they'd chosen to a team of art experts (don't know the exact episode but I'm sure you'll know the one I mean), the original of that Lichtenstein is clearly seen on the wall behind James when he's talking.

PLEASE folks, read this before Vivienne's post just above otherwise it won't make sense, and it's my fault! (Sorry Vivienne, I put my post on here, then took it out and put it in Pics of James. Then I thought it would be better here, came back and you'd responded. So I'm putting it back in here, where it makes better sense, to be fair. Phew!) I'm probably over-stretching reality a bit here, but I can see a passing resemblance between this pic of James, the original Lichtenstein painting and the version from "Fame in the Frame". Yes, I know the angle of the head is different but there's something about the set of his jaw... Could be just me, I suppose! (And in the 'weird coincidences' department, just as I clicked on the James pic to put it with the others, Paul Merton said 'Lichtenstein' on the TV chunnering away quietly in the corner. It was a question in HIGNFY saying that you can hire the whole of the principality for £40,000 per night. I 'do' synchonicity quite a lot, you know!)

Good call Dit. I like the analogy.
Can't stand what Myatt did to our James. He looks like Liberace.

Actually I think the copy looks kind of like Nathaniel Parker of Inspector Lynley.

There is nothing of James in the copy. Nat, could you have a go at this? Not the whole painting but just the line drawing of James at that angle. Only if you want to.

The only thing I see of James in that painting is the shirt. Other than that, no. I'd love to see Nat take a swing at it!

Oof, I have put him in his flowery shirt before...That style is incredibly hard to replicate and I would probably end up making him look like a fox anyway! ;D
