Or the most recent pictures of him will shock us all... ;D You must be talking about pants down pictures, obviously (Sorry, it's my dirty mind so I can't help it.) I am sure anyone who had paid for and was expecting Business Class would have reacted the same, very likely a lot worse. I wouldn't want to fly economy over a 10 hour flight when I was expecting business. Shame about the other family though, but I am sure they would have been adequately compensated.

It will fizzle out, these things eventually always do. Let's just hope the Mail won't pick it up. I guess it depends on how much other gossip there is to report this week.

I still can't blame him.If I have an Image in my head or been told before what to expect I turn into the Exorcist and make a huge fuss.If I'd booked flying first class then I'm flying first class. Not my problem if someone screwed up.

The more I think about it, the more I think "exasperated man having a bad day" and the less I think "diva having a tantrum." A diva would have delivered the classic line: "Do you know who I am?" There's no "I'm James May and I demand an upgrade." It sounds like it was just "You made a mistake; you fix it."
Also, I don't know how BA does it, but "business class" and "first class" aren't the same thing. Business class is a section toward the front of the plane behind first class which allows a little more space between the seats. First class is, well, first class.
I'm admittedly biased, and we've seen James lose his temper before, but he never gets big and huffy and starts throwing his weight around. It's hard to imagine him acting like Jeremy -- it's just not something he'd do.

I have had some major hissy fits in stores etc. when things did not go as I had planed. So I know that if I had been downgraded after paying for a business class seat (as James or the BBC did) that I would throw a temper tantrum until I was in my business class seat! As was said previously, he has been a celebrity for ten years and this is the only bad thing that has been said about him. I think that says a lot for him. Also, he is a celebrity and that is a good reason for him not to be put into economy class. He had work to do and I can see him getting stuff done in business class where there aren't that many people. But can you imagine being a celebrity and being stuffed into economy class. You probably wouldn't get five minutes to yourself much less be able to concentrate to do work. Like it or not celebrities do get special treatment and the behavior of the public is a big part of the reason why. I'm sure that the family that was down graded was well compensated and moved willingly. That said, my major thought after reading this article was that Top Gear was not mentioned so I wonder if James was here in the US filming something independent. Does this possibly mean more Man Lab?! Will we get more Jamesy yumminess in the near future? This seems to indicate that we will. Yeah!!

I loved the comments after the 'Heat' article. They are pretty much all of James' side on this issue. ;D

Just a note Heat Magazine. When the first word in your headline is "LOL!" I cannot take you seriously. That's a text message or a tweet, not a fricking headline. Not that I read fluff entertainment magazines too often(Heat is that, right?), but the ones I have read at least hired people who passed high school English. Bad writing annoys me.

I have just read the comment from the Heat article from a member of the family of four who were downgraded. They offered to move, an said the BA staff were rude, and James calm. Seems, as usual the press are taking a bunch of facts and manipulating them to cause the greatest sensation.

I hope James is ok and has for BA they need to stop slagging their customers off to the press. I have not left the country since 1999 and it's doubtful I will fly again, but if I had to fly anywhere I would chose virgin over BA any-day.

Seems, as usual the press are taking a bunch of facts and manipulating them to cause the greatest sensation. That comment from the family member was extremely interesting. It contains enough detail and is articulate enough to be believable (unlike most of the other comments). I'd rather believe this version than the News of the Screws or Heat any day. (Hell, I'd rather believe anything than the News of the Screws - "all human life is here" they used to say - yeah, as long as it involved a scoutleader, a 19-year-old beauty queen and a reporter who 'made his excuses and left'!)

You just made me snort Pimms no.3 out of my nose....
The News of The World Sunday tabloid newspaper used to have the byline "all human life is here" (or occasionally "there"), by which they meant "every sexual perversion we can possibly get away with through innuendo". This mainly involved kiddyfiddler scoutmasters, tarty beauty queens (usually seduced by middle-aged theatrical comedians or vicars) and sexual situations, mainly involving 'swingers' that their reporters attended but left before the action really started (yeah, right!).
Today they print anything about anyone, in graphic detail. Typical headlines:
Snow White in dwarf sex book shock Joanna strips in saucy Appren-tease Ronson girl sex tape exposed
They regularly get sued.
They actually list the James "story" three times on the home page in different guises (though you have to subscribe to actually read it).
Dear God, why do I bother with this country?

I've flown with BA a number of times, never had a problem....now Ryanair, don't get me started though you gets what you pay for I guess. And I'd doubt BA would say anything of the sort, very unprofessional........probably some News of the World vast exaggeration

If you pay for a certain ticket and then don't get the seat, it's your right to complain. That comment on the Heat article says it all, the staff were just rude. I took some time to concentrate on the article, that photo, my god...

I have also flown BA and never had a problem. In fact, once they dug us out of a very deep hole and got us home safely, for which we have been eternally grateful.
It would be good to think this person who says they are from the affected family was honest and are who they purport to be: we all want to believe that James wouldn't use his fame to get what he wants and throw a tanty in the process. The person does make it sound plausible. Whatever the weather, TNOTW will exaggerate and twist: I have no doubt that they will have done here. And Heat's treatment of the 'story' is bilge too.

I've just found the News of the World article, which is just as described, but it does have a very good photo (which is now on the pics thread) accompanied by the comment, "We snapped May at Heathrow looking relaxed after the flight"www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/notw/nol_showbiz/1214737/Mays-Strop-Gear.htmlIf you scroll down to the bottom there is a rather more worrying story about death threats, and the 'dope' one is interesting too - I hadn't read either of those before.

Ah, that must be how they trap people. They allow you one go to lull you into a false sense of security, then hit you for a payment. I certainly wouldn't pay for the privilege!
As I said, the article itself is nothing new except the comment I quoted, which rather took away from the effect of article as he certainly wasn't angry in the photo.
The death threat story was the same as the one posted not long after by jasmine in the Death Threats thread, and the dope one was really short, just that his mother would have killed him but he'd smoked dope occasionally around the age of sixteen, but it made him very depressed and scared so he hasn't done it since, or anything else.
So nobody's missed anything. Move along there, nothing to see!

I completely agree and utterly agree with Crumbs re the bumped-off family etc. In James' situation anyone would have grumbled and complained. I would have, and then probably shouted and cried. What bothers me most is that James has now reached the level of "celebrity" where some idiot considers this newsworthy. It seems that once you reach this level the media consider that you should be castigated for any behaviour short of saintliness. It's incredibly unfair. Sometimes I think, well, live by the celebrity sword, die by the celebrity sword, but in James's case he has actually said he never envisaged such a level of popularity and would have thought twice about doing Top Gear if he'd known. (I know he's also said he quite likes it ) It worries me that the media now consider James is interesting enough to exaggerate things he may have said or done in the past. Thing is, he used to be below their radar, and possibly naively (?) said many things that could now lay him open to being pilloried by the press if they decided to take against him. I really hope he doesn't give a toss, but surely to be criticised I hope he's salted his earnings away sensibly so that he can fade comfortably back into obscurity if he feels the need to.
