I'm giving Twitter the flick. I want to close my account down entirely, but there are a few people if still like to follow so I'll keep it open for now. Apart from that, consider the affair over!

Pretty much same here Pie. But I shall continue to follow Antonia's bike restorations with interest. Some odd long-haired bloke offers advice from time to time. I reckon you'd be a shoe in for that pint Antonia, given an opportunity!! (Not jealous...no no no....)

I don't even check Twitter every day, now. I seem to be following several people/organisations who think it's necessary to issue a tweet or retweet every four or five seconds. I end up with a lot of dross to wade through, but then I feel guilty about unfollowing people. How daft is that?
James's Twitter activity is less interesting these days than it was, but I'll keep following the old soak in the hope of some occasional pearls of wisdom.

That's the thing, isn't it? I was 'following' James on t'internet in the first place (and a few others) without any need to actually start my own account, but then I weakened when I saw a tweet that I really wanted to respond to. I do still want to follow James for his wit, but I'm keeping pretty quiet these days (and I've only been 'on' about a month!)

I have an idea for James which would enable more people to gain access to him on Twitter, as he does tend to answer the same few people over and over, which sets up a bit of resentment.
However, as I would have to tweet it to him, he wouldn't bother to read it!
Best laid plans, and all that...

E-mail it to him through his agent at Arlington? He should get it that way.

Try it here first. I was going to suggest to him that he has regular Q&A days, whereby he sets up a hashtag, like #AskMay or something, and promises to answer all reasonable questions put to him using that hashtag. Several organisations do that (Tate Gallery for instance) and nobody's died yet.
I don't honestly think he's worked out how hashtags work yet, as I've noticed people asking him if he's looked at their photographs which they've posted using a hashtag HE invented, and he claims not to be able to find them.
Anyway - I've got to get his attention first.

Excellent idea! Have to admit i don't fully understand hash tags either I need a numpties guide ;D Hope it comes off for you Amie8 then perhaps we can get some sensible tweets from him instead of the "manic monday" stuff ;D Try twitter if not go for his agent like Dit said they are very responsive, unlike their client!!! ;D

Hashtags just group certain tweets together, provided you spell it right. When you click on them, you should find all the tweets which included it, for instance his MINTIFLOC tag for pics of motorcycle instruments (which is why I couldn't understand it when he said he couldn't find people's photos)

Maybe he doesn't want to be obligated to answer all his fans on Twitter, he just wants to tweet to amuse himself. I doubt he has the time to stick to a schedule of answering tweets anyway.

I agree with this. James uses Twitter in his (probably rather precious) spare time, and should be free to answer who he likes. If some fans get more answers from him than others, it is because they have been able to capture his attention. Some by actually being interesting (like Antonias bike restorations), some by more obscure means, but that's up to him, really. (ETA: I'm still a tiny bit jealous of certain people, though. )

Well still think we should get a bloody follow, but hey hoo. We are the dumping the ground.....free PR and whatnot. Personally he can do what he likes, just bloody follow the JMB 400 odd visitors everyday from various places...good PR, shakes head. blah, blah

I'm sure James will follow in time. When you look at how many tweets he gets and how fast they come in sometimes, it's amazing he can keep up with them. It must be a bit like spinning plates!
Agreed, our presence on Twitter is great publicity, and it's lovely to see so many visitors but *hint hint* wouldn't it be nice if some of them became members? Just think about what guests are missing and how much more fun they could be getting from the members-only sections! *hint hint*.
(Advertisement over!)

Is anyone having problems with Twitter. I log in correctly and it tells me I have to reset my account. What crap. Is this trolling or something?

I do get the impression that Twitter is a rather temperamental beast. Today, for example, I'm only getting SMS messages from some of the people I usually do, so I'm only able to read part of conversations. It was fine last night.
Having said that, Vivienee, I did e-mail them a couple of days ago about another problem and received a very swift and helpful reply, so it might be worth trying that.
