Thinking about it, I think it is a very difficult, sensitive area to discuss. I don't give a stuff about his appearance in terms of weight or ageing. And we have to face the fact that he's a clever bloke and has the freedom to decide what to eat, drink and yes, smoke if he likes. So, whilst we may ponder on his health and secretly think 'hmmmmm, that's a little bit of a worry', there's naff all to be done. Also, being in the public domain means you are open to be judged and criticised - and some on here may fear that is what is being done here although I know you are both worrying about him and not judging him at all. The only person that can tame the horse (in the way you're describing) is James himself - it's his choice. Anyway, I will volunteer to tame him if you like...I can strap him down....and soothe him.....and stroke him......and and...teleport to the NC please! Thanks for the interesting discussion folks. I admit I was a bit wary about my post, but it has been nagging at me for some time. You're all correct of course. It's none of our bloody business and I'm sure his nearest and dearest (and his doctors) have it covered. But James, if you're reading this, please take some care of yourself man!! (I still would though!!) Oh, I so still would!!! I'm a little bit late to the conversation, as usual (gotta start reading the board earlier in the day) but I have been thinking about this for a while too. I've struggled with my weight my entire life so I know how difficult it can be. And James's hectic schedule can't make it easy for him. But James does have so many risk factors for heart attack that it is scary. I noticed on Man Lab when they were ghost hunting that virtually every time his heart rate went up he had been on the stairs. I'm sure he knows all of this. And as said before he is the only one who can do anything about it. I sure hope he does. I'm a natural worry-er so it is something I would notice. It sure doesn't change how attracted to him I am though.

Jezza has a man baby, should we give James a nickname for his also? I was going to suggest "pie baby" but thought that might be a bit biased. ;D I too agree with what's been discussed already and just hope he takes appropriate care of himself, given his busy schedule etc. Edit: I can't write in this thread and not post at least one piccie!

Thank you for posting that pic, cockney. That is one of my favorite all time pictures of James. I'm late as usual coming into the conversation, but I too will put in my 2 cents worth. Losing weight and/or breaking a habit is by far one of the most difficult things a person can do. It requires an immense amount of dedication, patience and the ability to see/hold on to the long term goal you want to achieve. My mom started smoking since she was 16 and smoked during her pregnancy with my sister and with me and only quit maybe 8 years ago. She still eats the Nicorete gum like it is going out of style. But I am immensely proud of her for quitting. As much as I too am concerned about James's health choices, they are his and his alone. I think that once Top Gear winds down and James does more of the things that interest him (like TV specials and Man Lab), he may relax a little. I am sure he is aware that the choices he is making are adversely affecting him. I remember reading in an interview he had saying that when he looked in the mirror he had seen a much older man than he expected to see. More on that interview here: www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/my-secret-life-james-may-tv-presenter-age-45-943442.htmlWhat is the most worrying for me is what he says to what he hopes to be doing in 10 years. The best thing I think we can do is send out good vibes and hope for his well being and good health. I always do, and for all those associated with TG.

He's bound to change a bit over the years. So what he's got a belly going on,he's nearing the the 50th mark.I'm sure he knows when to pack in the pies and beer for a while.Men loose weight really quickly when they want to. Providing he doesn't keel over and he doesn't end up in the Betty Ford clinic,he'll be fine.

It's a great sweater, however, I'm horrified to see he's wearing a flowery shirt under it. Hopeless.

I spot a new sweater! D) Absolutely wonderful sweater (red is a very nice color on him; I agree). And he says he has no fashion sense. (waves dismissively) I wouldn't call it bad fashion sense if he looks like Mark Darcy's dashing bachelor uncle who wants/needs a hug and often. Preferably by a lot of women who are... ugh, dang it, I'll go to the NC now before I am hauled off by force. But anyway, it is simply adorable. He could model for L.L. Bean magazine over here (and I would buy every issue). I can't stop squeeing. The man's still got it. And in spades.

*whispers* I don't like it either. Maybe it's just that it's very European and not something you ever see in this neck of the woods. Life would be dull if we all liked the same thing though. (Except for James of course!!).

I had that sweater too. I also had this shirt in the 90s. It was a Pendleton. At least he wears nice women's clothing. Hard to think of him as sexy when I think he's been in my closet and is now wearing my clothing...from years ago.

However, if it happened to be from a Manlab Chrissy Special shoot, I could forgive the sweater...it's meant to be ironic.
