I think (hope!) it's a lot of make-up combined with the fact he's not as knackered as when the comparison pic was taken. Can you imagine the ribbing he'll get from J+J about this?!?

Seriously though, the second photo is taken with flash, as opposed to studio lighting, which will always hide wrinkles better.

Richard's respons (via Facebook) is priceless!

We’ve just returned from hols (a week in a campervan in Cornwall – absolutely mega) and I learn whilst I was away a newspaper accused me of having had cosmetic surgery. Mindy is still laughing at the idea that my ugly little mush could have been done deliberately. Turns out, the photo they carried was taken recently at a big awards ceremony I was hosting.

They organisers had paid for me to have makeup for the cameras. The lady who did it is called Pauline and, clearly a genius cos she fooled not just a paper but some doctor from a fancy cosmetic surgery centre they quoted who said I could have had a blepharoplasty, whatever that is, and Botox. No, it was just a bit of slap! I can give you Pauline’s number if you need it though!
