Today, I had a completely new experience. I missed my turning off a dual-carriageway because I was contemplating the beauty of the leaf-shaped rear lights on a new Mazda. Earlier, my husband had asked my opinion of an Alfa Romeo parked across the road, and, instead of saying, 'Well, it's a car', I said, 'Yes, smart!' Come to think of it, when some boy racer blasts past me in a sports car, I used to think, 'Yeah, yeah, mate, what are you trying to prove?' But now I think, 'Ooh, nice noise!' James May, what have you done to me? I think I'm turning into a petrol-head.

I do some of the same things. I notice more about engine noise, body design and whatnot. Mind you, I don't get to see many really nice cars in my rather rural area, but once in a while I do. There is a really sweet, old Rolls Royce that appears on one of the back roads around here on sunny Sunday afternoons! ;D ;D [Edit] Did see a cute little Camero SS convertible parked across the street from my office today. Brand new! Still had temporary plates. Sorry about the size of the photos. Tried to resize them, but Photobucket was chopping off the end of the photo no matter what I did.

I know what you mean! For me, it started when I started watching Top Gear. Before that, I never really thought about cars much. Now and then I would see one that I thought was "pretty" but for the most part I just didn't bother. Now when my husband and I are driving somewhere I'll exclaim things like "Look a Porsche." or "I think that's the new... (insert make and model here)". I never would have been able to identify a car make/ model just by its shape before! I still don't know too much about the workings of cars and I don't think I'll ever be a true petrol head but I am learning. It is an area of interest that I never dreamed I would get into but I am really enjoying it now that I am getting into it.

Especially out here in the Middle East where the Arabs have a very expensive taste in vehicle. I regularly am sat in traffic with such things as Ferrari's, Lambo's, Rolls, Bently's and Aston Martins. AND there is even two Veyron's on the road here but I've not seen them although MOH was sat at a traffic signal next to one of them a short while back. He did drool slightly but we try not to mention it in public

That Camaro was really nice, DMC!! Oooh, how I would like to drive around in something like that! ;D I wish my Subaru was a convertible..I was a petrolhead before I started watching Top Gear, but my interest in cars were limited down to a few certain makes. Now though, I'm finding myself turning my head after almost all kinds of cars ;D And I too have learned to identify cars by shape, or at least have a guess which make it could be ;D

Then there were a couple of years I didn't much care about cars: I still knew things about them, recognized them easily, because, well, that's a thing you never forget once learned, and now for nearly a year I'm beginning to become a petrolhead again, because of, yes, James ;D EDIT: I'm lying!! I also was a kid-petrolhead when I was about 10! I used to play with scalextric - a lot, on the attick. ^.^

I have to agree with you on that. I have also notice the same things after I started to watch Top Gear. I find myself talking about cars with my dad more often then before, plus I know a lot more about cars. I have learnt a lot about cars, thanks to Top Gear! ;D
