Where am I to tell the husband I'm going? He still doesn't know about my forays into the JMB. I know, a MOMs club convention. It's a real club...I swear. Look it up.

When was the last time you and your girlfriends went to Vegas for a nice cup a tea and a little shopping? Never, considering where I live-I'd need an airplane to get to Vegas in less than two days. Now Chicago, on the other hand...well still never, but that one's not beyond the realm of possibility. I didn't give my husband any grief when he went off for a weekend for a bachelor party, nor when he took four days to go to Smelt Fry so if he wants to give me grief over wanting to do the same for myself, his ass would be served to him ice-cold on a silver platter.

I got back from my foray in Europe 2 days ago. I'm sad to say all did not go as planned due to unforeseen circumstances such as cars breaking down and road signs not matching maps. If I could do it over again I'd leave out France because of a 37 euro road toll. I did manage to take some pictures if they will download successfully of a little town in Ireland from DTB. Met a gentleman who showed us the church and its history. The pub was closed. Is that normal for a Monday? I didn't get to the Isle of Man due to clutch failure on a Skoda Fabia pos. I am now sick to top it all off. I forgot my jewelry which contained my celtic cross, but I didn't have time to go home and get before leaving Albuquerque. I am trying to remember the good times. I would live in England in a heartbeat in a small town. Irish secondary roads are like driving on a one way road. What the heck with the roundabouts? I'm glad we don't have them here although I understand how they slow people down. I did have a good time but maybe I should have gone alone. I'll try and get pictures soon.

I've been wondering how the trip was going. Ah, I see not completely well. Maybe when you get some rest and get your bags unpacked it won't seem so bad. After you've had time to mellow, would love to hear of the adventure.

Here's some free advertising for the city of Chicago. I only spent a day there, but it was an awesome fun day. We ended up driving from Madison to Northbrook, IL, and catching the Metra train to Union Station in Chicago. I absolutely detest taking a car into Chicago and the parking fees are obscenely expensive. Let's see....after getting off the train and telling my husband no really, trust me, I know where to go....we went down to the Museum of Contemporary Photography, which was closed, so we then went for lunch(we never did make it back here, next trip). And ate...this. It occurred to me later that they'd left the dill pickle off, something that is REQUIRED on a Chicago dog. I've had better Chicago dogs, but it wasn't bad. Then we took what was a fairly long walk down to Museum Campus, on the south end of Grant Park. Pictures were taken along the way. Check the members thread later for some of me and MOH if you so desire. Buckingham Fountain. Much cooler when turned on. (I didn't think they shut it off until it was winter, guess we've been close enough to freezing temps they're taking no chances). Grant Park with buildings in the background. Boring fact-every other time I've been to Chicago Grant Park has been closed for some massive festival or another, first time I got to walk through it. Navy Pier from the bike path along Lake Michigan. I love my telescope lens. Shedd Aquarium, where MOH and I spent the bulk of our day. The line to get in was very long-guess everyone wanted to see fish after lunch? Also, guess what the featured exhibit was. ....I got bored in line. View of the city from Shedd Aquarium. The guy in the orange hat was with his friends right in front of us. Spoke English, but I could not place their accent at all(they were not American but it never occurred to me to ask where they were from), but they were entertaining company. Their other friends I think assumed I was a local because they were asking me about the Art Institute and the Field Museum, and what's that building behind the Shedd Aquarium(Adler Planetarium) and where they were...to be fair, I did know the answers to their questions. I didn't get many great pictures in Shedd Aquarium-my camera does all right without a flash indoors(that was the most common thing I heard there, have your camera flashes off at all times in Shedd), but it needs a tripod to get really good pics, and I 1)didn't bring one with me and 2)I would not have been allowed to use it anyways. I got my best pictures from the jellyfish exhibit and the coral reef exhibit. Jellyfish Exhibit Coral Reef pics Overall, Shedd Aquarium was awesome, and we did buy the tickets that allowed us to see the entire museum($35 each, not a cheap outing), which included a half-hour water show and a 4-D movie. On the whole, I'm glad I went but I'm not sure it was worth the cost of entry to me. The water show was also really, really lame-I've seen better at facilities that are not set up to do serious marine research. The 4-D movie was pretty cool, but also only ten minutes long. MOH and I both agreed that we probably could have done without the water show. But on the other hand, since we saw everything, no reason to go back. Next time...the Field Museum. Best memory of Shedd? The 10-year-old kid next to me(incidentally, while viewing the purple/pink coral tank up there) yelling at his brother "Wait, come back, you didn't see all of the orgasms!" ;D I was DYING. The kid's mother knew I'd heard, she was laughing herself into a fit after confirming yes, I'd heard what her son had said. He then he asked us what was so funny. "NOTHING!" I had a hard time holding my camera steady for a couple minutes there. God, I'm still giggling at it. So we left at five, and decided walking sucked. There are several ways to get around Chicago. You can walk(I'm a fan of this one), you can drive(I do not recommend this one, esp in the Loop), and of course let's not forget the L. We decided to try out the water taxis, since out of five stops in the city, one of them was conveniently right next to the Aquarium. I think the next 20 minutes of my life were possibly the best I've spent in Chicago. I shot over 100 pictures, some I'm going to try to make a panoramic from later, but for now, a couple of my better ones. ....my camera got a little wet. Almost to Navy Pier. Navy Pier, right off the boat. The guy in front of me in the bottom right corner is MOH. Nice back of the head, yes? Walked around for a bit, came upon a street performer. Decided to stay and watch. This guy was rather hilarious. Figure the picture of him juggling three knives while walking on a sword is probably the best one. He did yelp in pain while stepping onto the sword...apparently that steel was cold! Then it was time for hot chocolate and sandwiches(we decided to forgo the nice dinner idea too). Wandered around a few shops, then at 7:00 or so, figured overcautious on time was better than lack of caution, so we decided to start heading to Union Station. We took a taxi. A water taxi. They run on the river too...right to Union Station. How convenient. In hindsight, this may have been a slightly dumb idea, as we'd stopped for hot chocolate because it got cold, so yes, why not take a water taxi ride on an open boat over the river? Genius idea. The views were worth the numb fingers. Donald Trump's new(ish) building. I'd like to thank him for helping to make Chicago's skyline just a little bit ugly. This building was almost finished last time I was in Chicago, in 2007, and it is HIDEOUS. It looks better at night. This is the only dorky souvenir I bought. Actually, it's the only souvenir I bought, dorky or not.

So that's 28 of us who will never forget how oil is formed! (except for the one who thought it was coal...)

We visited a pub between Banbury and Chipping Norton. The owner was very nice. He did not have a London Pride as it is very popular. I had a choice of 5 Fuller beers. I don't plan to drink it unless I can find some more. I had 3 choices of glasses and of course chose the London Pride. He already had his Christmas and New Year pamphlets out so I took one. No I did not ask him if Jeremy drank there. My cousins had seen the Fuller sign as we had gone north and we were looking for it later. I saw 2 Baptist churches and said they wouldn't be around those. I do have a picture of the pub and the little cafe we ate at in Chipping Norton. My son informed me that this beer had won some kind of award and when would I drink it. I think I need to hide it from him! Attachments:

Thank you!(thanks everyone who likes my photos, my ego's been so stoked lately! ) The Sears Tower in Chicago is the tallest building in the USA. But yes, there are a LOT of very tall buildings in Chicago. I love walking around all of them, it's such a cool experience. Literally and figuratively, the nickname of 'The Windy City' didn't stick in that town for nothing. And I'm glad you like my pics from the Aquarium, I was overall not happy with the ones I took there.

Oh, Vivienne! That's a HoneyDew! A fantastic beer. I love it! I managed to find three at a beer and wine shop over a 2 hour drive from my house. I would consider doing that drive just for the beer!! ;D ;D MOH has one of those pint glasses as well. ;D

Just tried making a panorama. Not sure how well it's gone, I'm suddenly not feeling so great. Didn't get a high-quality version made yet. For all that I love photography, I am damn near useless at photo editing programs.

Yum, look at that dog with its delicious poppy seed bun. *picks a pepper off and eats it* I've spent a little too much time in Chi-town to appreciate properly any more (relatives) but that is a mighty nice picture of the skyline from the water. It tempts me.

I have a question for the UK people. What do you consider a long way to drive as in miles? I ask this because when we drove from Stratford-upon-Avon to Kingston- on -Hull I believe it was around 150 miles. We had a complication because we were on the A46 and there had been a police chase that closed the road north. Luckily we had the radio on BBC2 and were able to get off and use the little country roads add several hours to the trip. The Humber bridge is beautiful. When we got to the hotel they were surprised we had drive so far. Some of the people we met didn't even know the next town up the road. Granted I live in a large state and 400 miles is nothing but I found it interesting and maybe a little isolating. I love isolating, but I love to investigate my surroundings. DMC should be able to appreciate this since the northeast from Mass to Maine is like that. I want Miss Marple's village and being a nosey parker.

It tempts me. I gave the peppers to my husband, bit too spicy for me. I wish it'd had a pickle on it, I like the pickles. Next time, go visit and don't tell your family you're there, you'll have a much better time. City of 3 million, they'll never know you're there. I agree it's very good. I usually see it from the other side as in inland. Is that the Sears/Willis tower on the right? It's on the left. Thanks for the compliments everyone.
