I came with the idea when I said in the: "What are you eating....", that I just had "ontbijtkoek" (a sort of cake that's, I believe, not being sold anywhere else). Well, I actually came with the idea about..... 7 years ago, when I started exchanging Dutch food for foreign food. So, the thing is: Anyone interested in exchanging food? That is of course if you're NOT living in the Netherlands ;D It's not cheap, for sure, but it's great fun! Sent to me by DMC!! I was soooooo thrilled and excited when I opened it.......

Hey Nat! I was just reading through the International James May Day thread and saw some of the things that people had sent or would like to send to James. Then I stumbled upon this thread. I would love to make an exchange if you'd like. The items you described in the other thread sounded very interesting and tasty! ;D I don't think I've had anything specifically from The Netherlands.
Mind you, I did buy a Netherlands t-shirt for last year's world cup! I rooted for them after the US and UK were eliminated.
One line of my family came from The Netherlands to New Amsterdam (Manhattan) in the late 1600's. They originated in Utrecht. I don't know if that was the name of the town or a region. I've not finished my research into that part of my family. I can however, trace that line back to 1390 in the Netherlands! ;D
If you'd like to make an exchange, pm me and we'll set everything up! ;D ;D

You rooted for us after USA and UK got eliminated?? OMG... *shakes head* I didn't root for us, as I HATE soccer (and our team), but.... I can't deny that I find it secretly awesome that you did root for us Oh wow, quite interesting about one line of your family came from the Netherlands!!! Utrecht is both the name of a region and it's capital city ;D I would LOVE you to continue do your research, as there's pretty much nothing more interesting to me than such history!!! I'd love to make an exchange, yess!! Will PM you asap!

I'm not opposed to the idea of doing an exchange either, with anyone who's interested. If you're interested in midwestern fare...I live in Wisconsin, but I kind of consider the Great Lakes region in general to be home as I've moved around quite a bit. Plus WI's mainly known for beer and cheese, and I'm not sure how well that stuff would ship.

Heheh, well, cheese is allowed to be shipped, I believe! At least, I know Australia and New Zealand have very serious rules about cheese, but I was allowed to send it, as long as you let them know you're sending it (by writing it down on the package). Beer on the other hand, not sure! We've some worldwide famous beer here as well, like Heineken and Amstel beer. I know in NZ Amstel is very famous and loved!

Nat, it was about $100 for 3 books. I will send you some cherry ripes as I see that you said in the nc that you would like to try them. We also have these chocolate biscuits called Tim Tams and they come in milk, dark and white chocolate, if you let me know what choc you prefer I add that to my goodies.

Cherry ripes, cherry ripes, cherry ripes yessss!!! ;D And uhm, wow..... A hundred 100 for three books...!! Yea, they can be expensive. My brother is going to start a new school in August and has to pay 700-ish Euro for 10-15 books...!! TimTam's, I miss them, a former friend of mine send them to me once about 4 years ago. She sent me the milk chocolate ones, I'd love to try the dark chocolate ones!!! Anything in particular you'd like to try? www.dutchtaste.com/index.php?language=en

Nat bought me a PRESENT! ;D Umm let's see here...I've got instant pea soup, Pickwick's tea Dutch blend, salty licorice, chocolate sprinkles, crackers, stroopwafel(on the bottom far right....I've uhhh, had a few, those are TASTY), some kind of dried bread/biscuit type item, speculaas, which are a ginger-snap tasting cookie. I think the chocolate sprinkles and the stroopwafels are by far my favorite. Those chocolate sprinkles are so rich! I've never been a major fan of them here because they're kind of like plasticy chocolate, but those....those are GOOD. I haven't actually tried them on any food items yet, I just kind of keep pouring out handfuls and eating them. ;D The stroopwafels kind of remind me of a molasses cookie. if I could find a recipe to approximate these, I would. MOH made a cup of tea first thing(some day when things are slow, maybe I'll take a picture of the shelves we keep our dishes on. One of them is filled with tea. MOH especially is an addict, but I drink a lot of tea in the winter) and we both liked the tea. Have not tried the crackers, pea soup, or the biscuits yet. ETA: Have tried the pea soup. It's a bit salty, but I like it! And it's mine, ALL MINE. MOH cannot stand peas at all. Sadly, MOH and I both strongly disliked the licorice. I think it was a better flavor than most licorice I'd find in the states, but we both had a piece and then had the same reaction....spit it into the garbage can. Sorry nat. Oh yeah, I use the kitchen table as something of a studio, so don't mind the art supplies and in-process(never getting finished at this rate) painting in the background.

I'd be in, but I can't think of anything from the US that people would want.
I know UKers are a bit mystified by Twinkies, but that's about it

I'm REALLY mystified by that Twinkie cookbook I came across awhile back. Except by mystified I mean freaking terrified. I'm in a bit of a similar quandry chariset...I need to send nat a box now, and I have no idea what the heck anyone would want to snack on from here. I wish it were Girl Scout cookie season.

Chariset, Im affraid I dont want to exchange with you, since I've done an exchange with three people all from the USA.. !! ;D ;D Meimichan: the speculaas tastes like ginger? I must have eaten them too much to taste ginger in them, but if so, I defo should send them to DMC!! Even though I gave her speculaas paste for on bread. ;D I so had to lol when reading you eat the sprinkle-ish thingies without bread, but pouring out handsful and eating them. ;D ;D It seems that people from all over the world love them. My friend from NZ bought them when she was here and didnt know what to do with them and poured them in her milk...!! She thought they were to make chocolate milk ;D I think that was cute. ;D You should eat them sprinkles on a toasted bagel! DMC's idea and I love it now as well! ;D I'm happy you like pretty much everything I sent you so far! And OMG @ the amount of syrup waffles that's left ;D ;D But yea, they're addictive ;D EDIT: OMG, yes yes, I looked "twinkies" up and they look very yummy!!! ;D Especially the banana filled ones!!! *isn't addicted to banana's whistles innocently*

Ahahahahaha, sorry chariset, but at least I'm not the only one traumatized by the existence of such a thing anymore. Oh nat, really? Twinkies are so gross. I've never come across banana ones. But ummm....I'll keep an eye out? Or send you decent stuff?

Does anyone know what green chile is? The harvest should start soon. Then the roasting. Can't live in New Mexico without it. We are the only state that grows it. I'd like to send some to someone here in the states because of international food rules.
