I very much enjoyed the demolition, and the sillyness of the cop film opening titles. It hasn't been my favourite though, but perhaps its because I don't like Bob?
I'll give it a 9, just for the demolition. Because that bit was great.

It would have got a 10 had it been Simon Cowell as rumoured!!! ;D I think I laughed more the second time of watching and I stand by what I said about James looking like Des Lynham ;D (sorry james )

Not the best in my opinion, Anyone else feel it went a little too fast? Bob I am sooo glad wasnt on for that long...spent a couple of minutes shouting at the tv, besides being a pretentious git I mean. Feet on the table and no socks!! Honestly!! I did giggle alot at the 70's trailer and the demolition bit was good.

I couldn't give it higher than an 8, i think because i can't stand the Geldolf. I did however think James looked gorgeous with his glasses and moustache combination

Saw you, Jacqui! Well, saw you a couple of times, but I saw an awful lot of your right arm and that white cardi sleeve!
I missed some of the programme thinking it didn't matter as I could watch it later, then realised I hadn't set it to record, so it's down to i-player/repeat/download - silly me! What I saw I enjoyed - no-one does 'silly' on quite such a grand scale quite so well, the serious car parts were informative and I laughed like a drain at the Interceptor segment. I loved the original car and, to someone like me who (perhaps unfortunately) can remember those TV shows of the 70s, their p1ss-take was uncannily and hysterically accurate.

Uuuurrrrrrrrgggggggg! missed the first few minutes so I didn't see the cop bit (except when Hamster kicked the woman in the crotch). It was alright I liked the demolition bit though the way they were heading was picturing one of them with a steel hanging out of their heads.Saint Bob does my head in so didn't pay attention. Not the best but still a goodie.

I agree with you about the Des Lynam double Jacqui, Des Lynam were my first words to the man on seeing James with his 'tache. I wasn't keen on Bob as the star in the car. Some how the whole episode didn't seem to gel for me.

Jeremy reminded me of a 70's porn star from one of those cheesy films. James' tash suited him somewhat. He reminded me of Aussie actor Michael Caton a bit. Loved the demolition segment and the boys getting excited in the military sale yards.

So badly wanted to give this episode a 10...but Bob was the chink in the armour. Apart from that, I was in stitches and was far from bored. The Interceptors trailer was hilarious and yes, James looked awesome in his 70's get-up. (I've always said I'm glad I can't remember a whole lot of the 80's - now I can safely say I'm glad I never saw the 70's!) The demolition was classic TG: ambitious but rubbish. Even though it was a bit predictable, it didn't seem to matter. And, for once, my favourite quote came from Hammond: "Don't have an accident." "If you do have an accident, remember: it was an accident." ;D Edit: thanks for the download, meimichan!

Thought Richard looked hot as usual even with a cheesy 'stashe. Bob's a tw*t.

I really enjoyed this episode... well... except for the Bob, of which I fast forwarded through. Some day when I am rather ill and wrapped up on the sofa, MOH will put on this series of Top Gear for me to doze through, and I'll wake up just in time to see bob. The Interceptors was brilliant!! James and his mustache... I'm still trying to get my head around that image. ;D ;D I remember the 1970's detective shows. They were just like that! ;D ;D And yes, Jeremy is now forever etched in my mind as a second rate porn star! The next time the guys and production staff nick ideas from this board, we should not only get a cut but tickets to the show and a private chat with the boys! I like the service they put together for the Lotus - especially the chef! ;D Perhaps they could add a masseur. The demolition bit was fantastic! I loved the fact that they played the theme to Airwolf when Hammond showed up in the copter!! I would love to have a walk around those hangers with James - having him explain each piece in minute detail! Saw you, Jacqui! I waved and had a bit of a squee. MOH thinks I'm bonkers. Well a bit more bonkers. I gave this episode a 9. Bob does spoil things, doesn't he.

I was on the Top Gear site looking at the comments.Quite a few of them were very derogatory. Then again many were very complimentary. Lots of laughing was agreed on. Also many did not like the guest!

I think I ranked this episode an 8(I am by nature a fairly harsh grader though, just ask my former students...and I took it easy on them. ). I did rewatch this one fairly quickly, the whole detective spoof and demolition parts had me and MOH laughing ourselves absolutely silly yesterday when we first watched it. Although I did feel some secondhand embarrassment for the detective spoof. And those mustaches were TERRIBLE. I think James' stache was the worst by far. I haven't seen any British detective shows of that era but I did see some from America on TV Land whenever I was home sick in high school...that whole sequence kind of made me think Charlie's Angels and/or James Bond. (Andy's Angels? Oh god, my brain apologizes for that......someone please write that fic now. ;D) Jeremy's stint in the Lotus was pretty good too. Like nearly everyone else, did not like Bob. At all. Way to grind a great episode to a halt there.

Re: The Interceptors, the influences were mainly late 60s - 70s ITC secret agent dramas. As far as I can tell, the inspirations for the character names were as follows: 'James Steed' draws on John Steed from The Avengers, 'Roger St Hammond' from The Saint, where the lead character was played by Roger Moore and 'Jason Clarkson' was a reference to Jason King, from Department S (from where they borrowed the theme music) and Jason King. The silhouette thing was obviously a Charlie's Angels/James Bond mashup rather than an ITC-style thing, but the bad guys - dodgy geezer with eyepatch and dodgy bloke in white suit with fez - are typical ITC style stock villains. All those shows Jeremy mentioned - The Persuaders, The Avengers etc. - are things I grew up loving, and although my ex got the entire ITC video collection when we separated, I still remember them with great fondness. And I want my Protectors videos back. That one had a brilliant theme song, performed by Tony Christie (and yes - the videos an ITC-style spoof, it was re-released a few years ago). If it was any more 70s, watching it would cause a time vortex.

I so remember that bit of the opening credits where the girl in the bikini in the South of France walks past Roger Moore and Tony Curtis and they look back at her, and wishing I was that girl...

I know exactly what you mean. The Persuaders was another show with an epic theme - one of the first things I learned to play on the piano, for some completely unfathomable reason...
