You know what's really amused me about all this? Although it didn't run out of charge on the film, the Peugeot got a less favourable review than the Leaf on grounds of size, cost and appearance, and in common with every motoring journo I've spoken to (and there have been a couple) the TG article demonstrated that the Leaf is the best made and generally nicest EV - and yet Peugeot aren't jumping up and down about any of it. Funny, that. IMPORTANT EDIT!!!So it turns out that Nissan aren't actually jumping up and down about it either, and their communications director has just gone on record to prove it. Here's a well thought out and considered response not only to the original article, but more importantly, to the press furore. It mostly boils down to 'but we never said that!' So apologies to Nissan for believing the press (I don't usually make that mistake), but no apologies at all to the 'other media – who love to hate Top Gear it seems', because they're a bunch of arses. Again.

I want to know if/when Mr Monbiot plans to trade his ICE Peugeot in for an iOn. I bet he couldn't get to his lecture tours if he did...

This was a great show to end the season with. Hammond did a wonderful job telling the story of the Afghanistan Vets, and I hope they get in the rally. The hubby wants the Lamborghini Aventador...NOW! ;D And now I think those were fake tattoos James and Jeremy were showing off.

Oh no reason I'm sure. We've got at least two in my city(that I know about)...never mentioned it before, but I knew about the one when I first saw this episode. The other one's in the parking lot of one of the stores I currently work at. I wouldn't be surprised if we've got more than those here either, I know my city. They would encourage this.

I believe we have some too. No idea where they are. I've been seeing lots of Priuses on the road, what an ugly car.

I'm not sure of the status of the project, but there was an electric car trial in Melbourne (maybe it's still going, I don't know). I considered being a part of it as you get given an electric car to drive around for something like six months, but I didn't get onto it quick enough.

I've driven several electric cars now, and guess what? The article was pretty much on the money - they're really good cars, and they're really nice to drive (for my money, I prefer the way the I-Miev - which is the original Mitsubishi version of the i-On James drove - handles) and the only real problem is range. Unless you're in a Vauxhall Ampera, because that has a range extender (like Geoff when they fitted the generator - exactly the same principle, though fortunately executed in a way that's far less likely to give you CO poisoning), though on the downside, when I was doing the test drives, everyone seemed to want to drive it at about 4mph. It probably comes pre-fitted with a flat cap in the glove compartment.
