I like Annie Lennox and that Coventry Carol was beautiful. Have you heard of Mahalia Jackson? She sang O Holy Night and many other songs, I believe she was considered a gospel singer. My parents loved her music as well as opera so we had many records of Christmas music by Domingo, Pavarotti, Mario Lanza etc.

The original and best version of this song, and yet it's heard so rarely these days. Such a shame. Thanks for posting it.

Merry Christmas, antonia! And Happy New Year! I would like to be careful for the holidays, but I may end up being good after all. Oh well. Aeromanda, that is a fabulous Charlie Brown Christmas tree!! ;D ;D What does your new little kitten think of it? ;D

Thank you. My kitten didn't think anything of it at all. He's still to preoccupied with the big tree. But my 3 year old cat Binky was rather enchanted by the shiny red ball. We caught her twice preparing to jump from the arm of the couch to the table that the Charlie Brown tree is on. We managed to stop her both times thank goodness. I don't think the table could have stood her weight; she is quite large especially in the tummy area.

Our two are 7 1/2 years old, and today was the first time that one of them put their paws up on the limbs. I have no idea what he was thinking of doing, but I nipped it in the bud. Now chewing on the tree is a completely different story.

Now chewing on the tree is a completely different story. Ah yes. I remember what it was like to clean up puddles of cat puke under the tree every morning because the cats had been nibbling the needles whilst we slept. Our dog, a girl, thankfully doesn't even look twice at the tree.

I have a sneaking feeling that there will be a loud crash at some point over the holiday as the Christmas tree plummets through the glass-topped coffee table.
Senior cat, who is clearly stupid, went on the table and started eating the tree soon after I put it up today. The tree is made of plastic and fibre-optic shimmerlights.......she seems particularly keen on the fibre-optics. I've just had to put out a floral arrangement that she kept eating. This is an elderly cat with liver failure, who really should know better.

Those are hilarious. Anyone with a cat knows the danger around Christmas!

Those were so cute! The first one reminded me of my cat Mr. Rhett who passed away from diabetes. He was so smart. He used to take the glass balls off the tree very carefully. Then he would roll them across the living room, down the hall, to the cellar door and then he would whap the ball really hard and watch as it rolled down the cellar steps and smashed at the bottom. When we first discovered the broken glass at the bottom of the cellar stairs we couldn't figure out how it got there. When it happened again, we had our suspicions but then one day I caught Mr. Rhett in the act. I had to watch him to see what he was doing and I couldn't believe it. It was a mess to clean up but I was astounded at how clever he was. Needless to say, we moved all the breakable ornaments higher up on the tree where he couldn't reach them. He was quite a large (ok - fat) cat and disinclined to climb the tree. How sweet of him. It is nice when the other half puts thought into a gift like that.

That's a lovely tree, DMC! ;D Now I can't wait to decorate our own tree! We just have to find one first.. I think we're going out in the woods tomorrow or something. Let's just hope that we find a prettier one than we did last year! That one was awful. But seriously, it was the best one we could find because of all the snow!
