They were pretty common on old cars, so it's no aid to identifying the model. The only clue is that there's a carpet, so it's definitely not my old 1963 Beetle! Agree, I think this was standard equipment in US cars until the early 80's or so. Anybody remember who used orange carpet like that?

nope - opposite again! Now what is the opposite of Ford? As an American, I'm obligated to say Chevrolet. Vega?

Mercury. The Bobcat and Lynx were both horrible enough to have tacky carpet like that.
*realizes that describes many most small American cars of that vintage*

Cribbing from my list of "American cars in Britain which I remember from my youth", which is short, and prompted by JM2's guess, how about a Trans-Am?
They were well tacky!

Yes, was thinking of the Trans-Am. Only one I remember as well. They must have been quite the go.

What an honour!
Actually, I have used up on this thread pretty much my entire knowledge of American cars. If I didn't see them bombing around town when I was a youth, or one of my American rellies didn't have one, I'm clueless.
I also have no pictures of dashboards to post, so I will pass the privilege to somebody else

the LHD-ness is purely down to me being lazy! Mine - or rather Mrs F's - will be the RHD version!

Alfa Giulietta? Lucky Mrs F! another winner ;D so - Mrs F did have an aging Alfa GTV coupe! HAD! The week before the holiday/wedding, it blew all its water over the A1 leaving her stranded 150 miles from home! The pair arrived back home on the back of a tow-truck! Upon closer inspection, the engine was ruined! It went on ebay as a non-runner, and it was taken away on Thursday! Mrs F = Poor little Alfa - it had never missed a beat, but then went out with a bang! So - a replacement was required! A Citroen DS3 or a Alfa Mito were on a short short list.We drove both (and a Fiat 500 Arbarth - we wanted it to be so good, but it was so very bad) and happened to notice the Giuletta in the Mito showroom! So we drove that too - and the rest is history - a Red, 170bhp, 6-speed diesel will be delivered next week! Happy days again! ;D ;D

Very kind of the GTV to save up all it's quirks for one glorious day of self-destruction! Giuletta...red....of course. Enjoy!
