Forgotten ;D Got a couple of poorly babies so TV has gone out of the window. A thousand curses on whoever took their coughing dog to our local show on 17th December The two youngsters who are ill will be OK but I hope dear old Bobby doesn't get the cough. At 12 1/2 she might not cope too well

Hope your doggies are feeling better soon, inky!
Hopefully we don't have to wait too long to see the Christmas special. I see we're starting to get TG repeats on again...but why the same old ones?! *feels a trip to the Rant and Rave thread looming*

I smiled when watching one of the TV trailers to see that James does the same 'stopping running by making your legs go straight' thing on the rail platform that he did while 'escaping from robbing a bank' in the Albania episode.

lol. Well, Ive watched it on BBC2 live for the very first time, together with my brother. We surely had a few good laughs ;D ;D I really thought it was sad for Richard to see his Mini being ripped apart.... ;D And wow, what is it beautiful in Nortern India!!! Only stupid thing is that I have a new (second handed, given to me) DVD recorder and I obviously dont know how to record things on a DVD yet, because all I got was snow.... James looked yummy and Richard also looked rather yummy, dont you agree? ;D Only... the hair.... is looking a bit more... gay-ish......

Absolutely bl@@dy brilliant!!! I don’t think I have laughed so much at a TG Special since they began! The train advertising, although perilous, was very funny and who would have guessed that the adverts would get torn and end up reading something rude! The garden party was like watching a modern day take on the Marx Brothers! The TG 3 took cocking about to a whole new level; yes it was predictable at times but still flipping hilarious! Mind you I don’t think Paul McCartney has anything to worry about! I thought riding a moped in Vietnam was verging on madness but India takes the biscuit! It reminded me of Sanjeev Bhaskar’s recollection of his driving experiences in India when he was the SIARPC. I think I would have been curled up in the foot well in the foetal position until it was all over! As always huge HUGE congrats and credit to the production team. Such fantastic cinema photography. The last scenes amongst the Himalayas were awesome, if that’s not BAFTA/NTA worthy then I’ll eat James hat! (My late grandmother had a tea cosy very similar to that!) I need to watch it again to catch the bits I couldn’t see for tears of laughter streaming from eyes and hear the exchange of quips that eluded me due to coughing so much because i was laughing ( still getting over consumption!) An excellent special guys, a perfect end to TG 2011, may your recipie for success continue in to 2012. Oh and one more thing... Dear BBC What the hell were you thinking putting this fab program on tonight?? This really really should have been shown Christmas night or Boxing night; I mean what was better than this across those two nights.... come on beeb, get a grip for next year!!!!

I'm hoping it works too, dahlia - I'd watched about 35 minutes when a friend came round unexpectedly, needing urgent advice about his love life. I reckoned it was OK as I was recording the show. When he left I watched the rest, then wanted to go back to look at a certain section, went to the recordings listing - no TG! I have no idea what happened there, and now I've got to wait till January 5th to get it onto my Sky+ box (and eventually onto disc). I'm a sad soul who likes to watch on a big screen as well as on my laptop.
What did I think of it? I really, really enjoyed it, though in the final half hour I did wonder if it would have benefitted from tighter editing in places. However, I laughed hysterically many times and smiled and nodded knowingly at others, especially the sort of in-jokes that regular viewers would 'get', (though not necessarily the casual viewer). India looked stunning, there were some amazing shots of the territory and some lovely quick moments of humour and of little personality quirks from the guys. And it's so evident how completely in tune with each other they are nowadays, especially the laughter!
Well worth waiting for - thank you, chaps!

Not the best of the specials by a long way - it lacked actual challenge (unless you count restarting the British economy, which might really be beyond the scope of a pokey motoring show), and much as I love the boys, the 90 minute format meant the editing wasn't as tight as it could have been. I suppose it felt a bit padded. Then again, it must be hard to keep coming up with these ideas year on year, and they can't all be perfect. Then again-again, I'm trying to get everything ready for a mini-Christmas because I have a friend arriving tomorrow and I've been preparing food, doing laundry and trying to get my room straight.
But having said that, there were some wonderful moments - my favourite was probably Jeremy and James having a water fight, and I did enjoy the hillclimb, and just seeing the roads, and the scenery was utterly breathtaking. There were some brilliant bits of dialogue too (the one that immediately comes to mind is "Monkey! Monkeeeeeee! Monkey... wi... massive testicles!"). And in the way TG specials often do, it finished with such a lovely flourish that even though my attention wandered a bit, it left me with a good feeling - and I think that at least a part of that came from the fact that this was a more gently, more 'fluffy' Top Gear, one where I think we saw a bit more of the boys as people and a bit less of their TV personas. And that was very nice indeed.

Have to agree it wasn't the best ever - it lacked epic-ness. A journey of that distance through such spectacular landscape should have felt long and difficult, but it didn't, somehow. Maybe the problem was that nothing much went wrong with the cars (or drivers), so there was no real jeopardy.
Having said that, the scenery was gorgeous, I laughed out loud several times and I liked the sneezing cow.
And...my God, Jeremy's a crap drummer!

There are some very critical comments on the TG Transmission site - well, they asked for it and they certainly got it. Terms such as 'reached the bottom of the barrel', 'cringeworthy' and 'carry on with this rubbish and the show will die an agonising death'. It has to be said that the againsts are 19/1, mainly in terms of it being badly scripted, predictable and formulaic. Whilst not thinking this special was the best in the world I have to say that I still enjoyed it, but wonder if the TG producers will actually read the comments on there, and if they do, how will they respond?
It's interesting that my twitter feed is giving a result completely the other way round - 19 in favour to every one who is critical.

I thought it was quite funny and good. I like Richard's hair at the garden party. All punked up. It was in a different vein. I think last year's was very good because of the outcome of the baby stig.India is a magnificent country north and south. They have many deaths from hanging out the train and hitting the poles. I laughed at lot which is important. There sure were a lot of Aston Martins at the party!

Just in case anyone asks, I was the one who voted 1. I'd have elected to lob a snowball, but strangely enough, for late December in WI, there's no snow.
I'm sorry. I got really bored watching it. It felt really recycled. The Genesis thing with Richard would have been funnier if it hadn't been done in the middle east special, breaking James' AC would have been funnier had that not been done before(although I did like him getting revenge), and the whole garden party just kind of made me want to flee.
I made it through but WOW did that drag!
Hope the new series is an improvement on that.
I'll confess I've just had shooting pains in my back and that probably made my mood crappier. Maybe I should've voted 3? I genuinely did not like that but I am a harsh critic by nature...especially of TV shows I love that let me down.
I've obviously got a functional file, if anyone wants me to upload it...still uploading to the server, should be ready in a half hour or so.

I must say i agree with meimichan (don't hit me lol) so that's why i gave it a 4. It did seem to drag on a bit but there were funny parts,Jezza&James having the water fight that was just cute&funny&what Wyvern said about the Monkey bit i had a good chuckle with that.
James May keeps getting HOTTER&HOTTER!!*swoons*

It wasn't the best special by any means, but I still enjoyed it. If they just cut the whole "let's promote Britain" idea and just drove through India,I think it would have better. But perhaps they were trying to do something different.
My goodness, James was absolutely gorgeous in this. I wonder how much curry he had while he was there.

I enjoyed it, had serveral laughs, but guess I had been expecting more. India is such an amazing, vibrant, colourful country, why not just stick to the old idea of going on a road-trip? There's plenty for them to see and to show us. The whole idea of the "economic mission" felt contrived and took up way too much time. Also, I don't mind TopGear being scripted, but some of the jokes are getting very old.
Still, I'm glad I watched it. Not a waste of my time, still very much looking forward to the next series.

When I gave it a 5, mine was the lowest mark, and I was thinking at the time I was being generous! Tedious and predictable! Hands up those people who DIDN'T predict that James would miss the train, or that the slogans would end up saying something 'amusing', or that the cars would get damaged, or the cars would be badly modified? Nothing in that programme that would entice me to watch it again when it comes onto Dave!

Disappointed - a scripted comedy show that was way too predictable to be funny. It was only saved for me by the location and the occasional glimpse of the real personalities of the three.
