Sorry but I've seen too many of the jokes before and the garden party bit just made me cringe. Like flat I won't be watching it again.

I was disappointed, everything was very predictable. I hated the garden party section. I won't be watching it again, I'll return to vietnam and the other specials.

It was sadly quite predictable in parts, and like others have mentioned, the garden party was just cringeworthy.
However, I did enjoy the cricket game at the end, and it was nice to get a small glimpse of Mr Wilman *waits for Eclair to charge in ;D*
I voted 4/10 here, as I did enjoy some parts of it. The scenery was beautiful, and caught well on film. But my overall impression was that many ideas were snipped from other Top Gears and re-used here, and for 'older' viewers (as in, those who've been watching for some time) it's too repetitive.

This. Holy crap did that entire thing really ruin what could have been a great episode.

*sighs* Im happy to know that Im not always someone that's negative - in this case, it's not nice to be positive either, because Im the only one that liked the epi! ;D Oh no, Jacqui agrees with me. YES, it was predictable, but pretty much every TG episode is predictable, jeez, you gotta be used to that by this time and try to just ignore it. I'm curious to who gave this epi a 1 and to the ones that gave it a 9 and 10.

I don't like to turn on the TV to watch a new episode of any programme and expect to have seen a large proportion of it before in another episode. Really, the James getting lost/Jeremy doing the POWEERRRRR thing gets a bit old after all this time.

I gave it a 9. After having read the negative comments, I expected it to be a fizzer, but it got better as it went along and I exploded with laughter on several occasions, which is always a good thing. ;D The scenery was absolutely amazing and I think they've done more to sell India to Great Britain than the other way around.
Yes, I agree that it was predictable, but I'd rather watch and laugh at a predictable TG3 faffing around in yet another foreign country than not have the opportunity to watch it at all. I just hope the show doesn't die a slow and painful death because it deserves better than that; if they can keep the momentum steady, then good on them. I didn't think there was anything left in the tank after last year's Christmas special, so in light of this, I think they've done a remarkable job.

I gave it an 8, because I did laugh at the swearing and the signs on the trains and I thought the firework was funny and I did like the last 15 mins where they were in the Himalayas. But really, it was very slow, very boring...I didn't like the bit where they were trying to get the lunch to the workers. didn't like the lack of James. didn't like the train bits. I was very disappointed that there wasn't more driving. to be honest - I didn't really feel as if they gave us a good look at india. The other specials really gave you a feel for the country that they were in, but this one...I don't know, it was missing something that I can't put my finger on. HOWEVER, I will watch it again today, if only to look at James and newly buff Hammond. I will see if it grows on me. I would happily of watched Man Lab again instead. I hate myself for not liking it as much though, because I LOVE the christmas specials. I think I've watched last years about 20 times this past 2 months.

To be quite frank James is more than likely going to get lost because he really does have a bad sense of direction and Jeremy is a power nut. If you take those out you lose the people they are. I gave it a nine because it did have some continuity and flow that appealed to me. I think Dit mentioned that it wasn't epic like last year because of the search for the baby stig/Jesus. They could have done a search for Shangri La or the Yeti. I see they pulled in 5 million viewers and beat their time slot. That has to mean something. I'm going to watch it again. When I lived there I used to take pictures of the cows all over the place.

I must agree with the fact that I expected them to tell and show us more about India. Therefore I gave it a 9, not a ten. I agree with Viv about it not being okay if they don't add powerrrrrrrr to Jeremy and no lack of direction to James. It would be okay.

Actually, I think it was amie8 who made the comment about the lack of epic-ness, not me!
I was one of the ones who gave it 9. I enjoyed it and laughed a lot (not just because it was TG and not just because of James - I'm not easily pleased), though I did comment earlier that I felt there needed to be tighter editing, and the more I think about it, if the programme had been 60 minutes rather than 90 I suspect a lot of the criticism wouldn't have arisen.
The other things that occurs to me is that there's clearly a fine line between seeing something as a kind of repetitive joke/'in' joke and being bored by it, and that fine line depends on the person. So I might still be highly amused by something like the banners, nodding and smiling as I recognise what's bound to happen, whereas someone else might be thinking "god, not that old idea! They're done it too many times already". Just a theory.

If a show I watch is old, boring, and predictable and that's what I should expect...well...I don't watch anymore. Also agree with Lymaze, their other big travel specials usually made me want to actually go visit the area they were in. Not this one. They honestly could have been nearly anywhere filming that, they just happened to be in India. On the whole I've still mostly enjoyed Top Gear even in its later years, so I'm hoping this episode was just a fluke and not a sign of what's to come. And by request...the working link. Sorry for not getting it up here sooner, but my internet crashed last night(when it was 94% uploaded, good grief), and it wasn't done uploading by the time I had to go to work this morning. Enjoy?

I'm watching it again now but took a little break to ask if anyone remembers what Western show the music was when they were remodeling their cars? So familiar but I can't place it. It is better the second time round.

I beg to differ, it's from a Western show, different music altogether. It was a lot better the second time. Much more entertaining. Can someone screen cap Jeremy without his pants and Richard with all that mousse in his hair as well as James at the campfire?
I think it is Galveston by Glen Campbell. You are right, but it has a similarity to Galveston.

I watched the episode online and I gave it a 9. Yes, some of the jokes were well worn and corny , but they looked like they were enjoying themselves ;D and the Indian back drop was gorgeous.

My personal view is that they came at this special from the wrong angle. I enjoyed the show and actually cried with laughter at some parts.
The ashes and the car racing were good fun. Garden party made me laugh, but I so wanted to take that lawn mower away from James as it was annoying me. I don't think it warranted 90 mins which could be the reason it was transmitted midweek rather than Christmas or Boxing night.
The team dynamic was right, but overall it was only firing on 5 cylinders and not a full 6. (Ooooo, car reference!)
Maybe if they had not taken British cars ovder to India but bought the usual poverty model cars and drove across India undertaking challenges? Predictable, but good fun.
On that note I am going back to "research" a certain white shirt.....

Disappointed - a scripted comedy show that was way too predictable to be funny. It was only saved for me by the location and the occasional glimpse of the real personalities of the three. Agreed. Although I enjoyed it, it did seem to involve a lot of pratting about and not really a lot to do with the actual topic of "cars". It was more like a "Spin off" from Top Gear. Maybe it could merge with "Three men in a boat" and entitle it "Three men go to India, mention a bit about cars and then spend loads of time cocking about and blowing up things". That would work!
