*sigh* The time has come. Alas, I just don't use my beloved Gerald and I can't really justify keeping him on the drive when I use public transport all the time. He needs to go to a new home with someone who will love him as much as I do but also has the time and money to give him the TLC he needs, and a garage to keep him in so the weather doesn't hurt him any more. A Triumph Herald 1200 convertible is a lovely project for someone. He's been running this evening and he sounds sweet as. One of Mayfayre's friends has been looking him over for me and says he's in good shape for a 45 year old car, despite having a few cosmetic issues (for which I have the replacement parts). He doesn't have an MOT at the moment, but if you know anyone who fancies restoring him to glory, the biggest mechanical jobs are done already. He is not going to be sold to ANYONE who intends to fit him with a sail and drive him into a reservoir, however. Just so you know. But if you know anyone who might fancy giving him a go (Dit, you know Triumph people, don't you? ), please feel free to get in touch!

Don't have masses of contacts, Wy, but I'll certainly put the word out to those I have. It's a shame you feel you have to part with Gerald and I know it'll be a wrench, but I can understand your reasoning.

It will be a wrench - it has made me quite sad and discombobulated, but it's for the best. And there are always going to be nice Heralds out there later, when things are better. But Gerald did what I needed him to do - he got me through my driving test and he made me smile. He still does, and I shall cry my eyes out when he goes, but I don't want to ruin him completely, so it's for the best. Thanks for that! I've dropped them a message and you never know, it might just work out...

I sniffled when I parted with my 1989 BMW 320i.
Still don't know why I did (at the time, anyway)

I think I've sobbed quietly every time I've ever sold a vehicle. I've always got over it quickly enough though.

When I was browsing the forum where I found the link I posted, I noticed someone had named their Herald "Cyril".
I've never actually named one of my cars, but they've definitely all been male.
