In May, there was a bit of chat on the Pics of James thread about Comic relief, as a result of which I came up with this idea, which I sent to the Comic Relief team
I'm sure you get unsolicited ideas for celebrity sketches for the Comic Relief TV show all the time, but some friends and I were discussing thoughts around Top Gear and, knowing the TG guys are good sports and have taken part in fund-raising activities before, perhaps this idea might work (and bring in extra contributions, of course!)
James May as the Doctor, constantly getting lost in space and time, Hammond as the pretty but dim sidekick who asks all the stupid questions and is a bit girly, and Clarkson as......... either a megalomaniac despotic ruler on a distant planet (President Jeromiat Clarksorius perhaps) or a new and terrifying alien monster (the big scary orangipowutan).
I think this would not only raise money by having fans donate, but also could draw in those who dislike Top Gear (responses do tend to be polarised) and would pay good money to see the presenters making fools of themselves. Just an idea, y'know!
Today, to my astonishment, I actually received this reply!
Thanks for getting in contact with Comic Relief and thank you for your hilarious suggestion for programming. The support and encouragement we get from the public keep Comic Relief going and make our campaigns as brilliant as they are and with both the Top Gear presenters and the Dr Who team being big supporters, this certainly does sound like a great idea.
However it is the BBC who have sole responsibility for TV programming for Red Nose Day and Sport Relief. We will be in touch if we are able to take your suggestion forward, but please be aware that as we receive many suggestions each year, we are unable to pay or credit people for ideas which may be similar to programmes that are developed. Thank you for your support.
So if anyone from the BBC is on here, how about it, people?
