Have just booked to see Fascinating Aida in Blackpool next month. I saw them in Harrogate earlier in the year and howled with laughter throughout (except, to be fair, those songs that brought me to tears - they throw one in, now and again, in between the wit). Their lyrics are some of the wittiest I've ever heard.
Lynnemezzo, you'll have to let us know when your choir is in the UK next year, I'd love to hear you if you are touring anywhere near the North of England!

Dit, right now we are aware of two concert venues: St.John's Smith Square in London and the Cambridge Festival (King's College Chapel). More to come later.

I haven't been back to Cambridge since 2003 and I so look forward to going back!

We're doing the first concert of our "Royal Season" tomorrow, with an all-Handel program; the four Coronation Anthems and the Dettingen Te Deum. If any of you are in the DC area and want to hear great music, The City Choir of Washington will be singing at the National Presbyterian Church at 5 PM.

Just seen this Lynnemezzo. You went to Cambridge? Now, forgive me but I suspect you were an overseas student then or have I lost the plot? What college did you go to? I often visit Cambridge to see friends and love it but not as much as Oxford.......let's not go there though!

Crumbs, as an overseas student, I held a Junior Fellowship at Trinity Hall while I read for an M.Phil. I will not trade those days for anything!

Sorry Lynnemezzo, bit slow in replying! I bet you had a great time. What an experience. I wonder if you studied with anyone who became famous subsequently?
When you return, some things about Cambridge will be very different but obviously the Colleges should be relatively unchanged. It will be a lovely trip down memory lane for you.

Last night I went to the concert at the Bridgewater Hall by John Wilson and The John Wilson Orchestra in A Celebration of Rodgers & Hammerstein. It was absolutely lovely.
I was brought up on show tunes (my mother was a pianist and I had a wide musical education) and although I was one of the youngest there I probably knew every word of the songs just as well as anyone. Lovely, lush orchestrations and stylish soloists. I must admit I shed a small tear at "If I loved You" and "Some Enchanted Evening" ('Once you have found her, never let her go') but then again, that's just me!

Crumbs, I had the great pleasure of studying with The Rev. Dr. Professor Owen Chadwick, who was Master of Selwyn College. He was probably the best-known authority on the Victorian Age Church of England, and I worshiped the ground he walked on. I still do.

Last month I booked for a concert in York in March 2013 to see the S.F.O. They usually do two or three concerts a year and tickets sell out very quickly.

The Fascinating Aida concert was excellent tonight. They are so witty and just downright funny. I even bought the DVD (which for me is quite a breakthrough as I tend to be a bit of a tightarse) Standing ovations all round!

Bought the tickets in SEPTEMBER and had to keep my big mouth shut.....surprised out Beatle-mad girlie and saw Sir Paul last Monday in Vancouver!
He was outstanding--came on a bit late but played for nearly 3 hours and sounded great. (I worried about a venue as large as BC Place for acoustics--DH is a sound man--but it was FAB all the way 'round.) Will never forget the look on her face when we told her--a lovely evening and a great weekend with the Vancouver Christmas Market and Granville Island and a stop at the Public Library (the girlie's choice--oh I'm sooo lucky in her-- and the DH!) It was a delight from start to finish.
(grins contentedly) ;D

Christmas concert is finally over; we played to a larger than sold-out house! The audience was very appreciative and it was nice to have lots of applause! The madrigal choir from our partner high school choir from Tuscarora High School in Loudon County, Virginia did a superb job with their set of old English carols! They were such cute kids; this type of good student is what made my job as a high school teacher such fun. Now we have a three-week break and then we'll come back in January to begin rehearsals for our Verdi Requiem at Lincoln Center in April.

I've bn very busy getting prepared for the spring semester, and I haven't had time to write:
*Attended the Metropolitan Opera's marvelous production of LES TROYENS in New York on January 5. We had lovely weather, and Alain and I had a wonderful time.
*I'm afraid I have a little bad news. Our projected concert tour to England for this summer has been canceled. The financial situation in the US is precarious at best, and many people who had signed up (self included) decided not to go. Besides, it couldn't have come at a worse time; people here are really fretting over the money situation.

Getting ready to give our wonderful concert in honor of the 60th anniversary of HM the Queen's Diamond Anniversary. This coming Sunday at the Washington Cathedral, with Sir John Tavener there; it will be such a grand event!

I have two concerts booked for next year already In march I'm of to Norway to see Backstreet boys and in April, a week before my birthday, I'm going to see a childhood idol (I liked him since I was five!) named Magnus Uggla, a Swedish artist. He released his first album in 1975

That sounds good and possibly very expensive Louize. I have three concerts booked between now and June - The Manfreds, Jethro Tull and Eric Clapton - the last one is a special treat for the Man's birthday, he's a big fan.
