Another one of my childhood heroes passes away. Makes me feel very old. Did love the family statement though:
"Next time you walk outside on clear night & see moon smiling down at you, think of Neil & give him a wink."
RIP, brave explorer.

We're due for a blue moon on the 31st of August. Maybe wink twice. Amazingly enough there are 8 astronauts still alive from the other missions.RIP Neil.

I can't imagine the bravery of those men who were prepared to fly off literally into the unknown, not knowing whther they would ever survive to return home. James described the lunar module as 'shonky' in 'On The Moon' and it looks terrifying. The trust that Neil Armstong and the other astronauts must have had in their team is genuinely touching.

He was a true American hero. I remember that day in 1969 when the family was crowded around the black and white TV; it was probably the most momentous occasion I can remember. RIP, sir. You are one of the brightest stars in the heavens.
