I know what people mean when they say it's a bit like an Aston Martin, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Put it this way, if people said I looked a bit like Kiera Knightley* I wouldn't be upset by that. Surprised, yes, pointing them in the direction of the nearest optician, almost certainly, but I'd be secretly a bit pleased.
You have to bear in mind that there is a shared history between Ford and Aston Martin (whom Ford used to own), and I think they're different enough that nobody's going to get them mixed up. Also, I think once we get used to seeing the new Mondeo front end, we'll see so many of them that the differences between that and the Aston grille (which is really where the similarity lies) will be far more noticeable than the similarities - especially if you live somewhere that you see quite a lot of Astons, like I do. And having driven both a Mondeo and an Aston, I think it's pretty safe to say you wouldn't get them mixed up if you were behind the wheel, which is the important bit.
On the subject of degrading the Aston Martin brand though, I have only one word to say:
Cygnet.
