I don't know how it fits in with your work, but what about making a chronicle of the time you have the iPad? Because you can write, take photos and shoot film with it, you could put together a 'day in the life' or 'Flat's Week' or something like that. You can test the multimedia capability that way and also see exactly how far you can go with putting stuff together. I've never had one, but I did once take a photo every hour through my working day to record that and it's kind of taking that idea to its (possibly il)logical extreme...

And see what you can do with it that you can't do with your current laptop and phone (or whatever electronic gadgets you normally use). Tell us if it's really worth the $$$.

I love my iPad. There are applications that work better there than on my laptop or desktop. On the other hand, it's not as easy to type with. So I rarely use it for writing an email or posting here, unless it's going to be short. Some people love using the iPad for reading ebooks. And it does work quite well for that. But I'm a book-in-the-hand kind of person. I really only read on it when I'm traveling. That is majorly handy.
If you use Twitter, the app for the iPad is soooo much better than going to the website on a regular computer. Much more user friendly and the alerts are easier to locate and respond to.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on using it, Flat. Good luck! ;D

I am sitting here, typing on my laptop, not that inspired to open up the ipad!
Are ipads popular just because they are an ipad? Maybe I am not the right one to have given it to?

Try downloading some augmented reality apps. You can't use those on something without a back-facing camera and total portability. I think the value of tablet computers (not just iPads) comes from their portability as much as anything.
Put it this way - next time I'm due a phone upgrade, I'm not planning to get another iPhone. I'm going to get a more basic phone and a 3G iPad because I don't make many calls or texts but I use mobile data constantly.
