Yaay! Just saw the news on FB. Excellent. ;D ;D ;D Bit concerned they always come down here in the summer and the Sydney Motorsport Park is located 40km west of Sydney's CBD - i.e. HOT  . More than likely we'll get hot sweaty dripping May and Clarkson ;D or they'll hide in the VIP lounge air con a lot. I hope Mr Wilman will attend this time  Mr Eclair and I will be there  , we'll bring ice vests and a esky of cold beverages  |

Go on your own - I did that at the NEC this year. Perhaps you can ask him for your ticket as a birthday/Christmas present combined? You might find there are others going from the JMB with whom you can meet up, or even if not there'll be plenty to walk round and look at, take photos - and who talks to anyone while the performance is actually on anyway? Good luck!

Ah, I didn't know you live in Belgium, sorry! Somehow I had the idea that you actually live in Amsterdam, which of course might have made things different. As you say, there will probably be other opportunities in the future for you.

Getting excited! We are off to the Sydney TG festival on 8th March, going on 9th March! Slightly nervy as tickets have not arrived yet but still 7 postal days to go   Anyhoo, the temps don't look too bad in the long range forecasts, hopefully fine 27 deg something like dat. ;D |

He wears his watch on his left. When I was a kid I wore my watch on my right hand. There was a problem. I couldn't wind it without taking it off. I am right handed.

Its taken me days to settle myself down enough to post in this thread  . And its a very long one.... Top Gear Festival Sydney was the WORST Top Gear event I've ever been to   . Where to start. Mr Eclair and I splurged on the very best tickets you can buy, the "Superfan Suite" tickets...at the princely sum of $800 ($400 each plus I bought ticket insurance due to the cost, but I won't add that). We are by no means rich, in fact the whole trip was a stretch, as its flights and accommodation etc to Sydney but since we don't see Top Gear out here very often, we went all out. Here is a brief description of what a "Superfan Suite" ticket was suppose to entail: The Superfan Suite is the ultimate ticket for hard core Top Gear fans. With a strictly limited number of tickets available, you can lap up every aspect of the Festival with a VIP twist.
It is inclusive of a General Admission ticket giving access to the Festival including the main North Circuit, South Circuit, Live Action Zones, The Motoring Village, Stig’s Supercar Garage, and the Paddock.
The Superfan Suite ticket package includes:
All day access to a private air-conditioned Superfan Suite within the Pit Lane building, overlooking all the action on the main straight of the North Circuit.*
Special guest appearances and talks from drivers and personalities each day in the Superfan Suite.
Free access to the outdoor Pit Roof Club - enjoy elevated viewing platforms offering a 360 degree view of the Festival**.
VIP pre paid parking (1 car park per minimum of 2 people).
A daylong hot and cold grazing menu.
A complimentary bar offering beer, wine, soft drink and juices*. A cash bar serving spirits and sparkling wines will also be available to Superfan Suite members.
Special guest appearances and talks from drivers and personalities each day in the Superfan Suite.
A VIP Superfan Suite lanyard. We received little of the above. Firstly there was limited seating, totally inadequate for the hundreds of people there ("strictly limited number of tickets"...they must have meant 1000 :  . We guestimate about 100+ seats short. Mr Eclair and I stood the entire day, we weren't able to access a seat at all . People resorted to sitting on the floor, and so many did this, there was no floor space left, it was PACKED. I saw a lady with a walking stick struggling until some kind Samaritan offered her a seat. Due to the numbers, it was not a pleasant air-conditioned suite, as the airconditioning could not keep up, it was WARM to say the least. There was no buffet AT ALL. Wait staff brought out trays in limited numbers. At first there were a few curry puffs, etc, horrible deep fried sort of things, and then after 1pm a bit more lunch sort of food started appearing, but again sparsely. People were literally grabbing for food. Were we in a VIP suite or a concentration camp?  Viewing was grossly limited due to sheer numbers of people sitting and standing. I never had clear visual access to the track, Mr Eclair and I went up to the roof to where the "Pit Roof Club" ticket peeps were ($200 a ticket), who had a hot hell of their own to contend with, having 1000 or so people up on the concrete roof in full Australian summer sun with two small marquees for shelter. Totally inadequate for the numbers. I saw badly sunburned people all day, including ourselves! You can only do so much with a hat and sunscreen in full sun all day. Special guest appearances from drivers/personalities etc. Well we had a few lesser known ones, the most high profile Casey Stoner and Mark Webber popped in for a total of 5 minutes after he broke his lap record, I got the impression he couldn't have got out of the superfan suite fast enough, I suspect because it was hotter than hell in there The events were hard to see, due to all the above, and the presenters ignored us and faced the grandstand seats only (which were by far the best as they had clear unobstructed view and the full attention of the presenters). So we saw their backs only  I enjoyed the roar of the Red Bull racing F1 car and the car versus plane race but I didn't get the full visual with racing between rooms and the crowded roof top. We'd stay on the roof top for a little bit but it just got too hot, and so we'd traipse down to the not much cooler "suite" to try and recover for a bit (standing). I never saw the Stig, nor have any idea who the stars in the reasonably priced cars were. There were two screens I think, and not very big ones for the huge expanse of the venue. Lucky for us the bar did not run out of drinks. At least. Apparently many people have complained of the poor choice and standard of the few food vans around the venue, and apparently some ran out of water/drinks by lunchtime. By 4pm with still over two hours of show to go (they ran way behind schedule), we were totally hot, tired, foot sore and fed up, so we left. Just prior I cornered staff as to who to complain to, I knew Brand Events (the CEO Chris Hughes is the man with James on the boat on Sydney Harbour in pics on here somewhere)...and was told Nine Live was the company to talk to, obviously they have been contracted or whatever by Brand Events as part of the organisation of the event. I spoke to the National Accounts Manager who had little say except "these sorts of events most people don't sit on seats all day long, we were expecting people to move about"...oh really...on a hot summers day...so you sell 1000 tickets and provide seating for 500. Totally unacceptable. It seemed like a total cash grab. This was my fourth Top Gear show/event, first time festival, and I've never been so dissatisfied and disappointed. The night shows in an arena of past were great, I certainly didn't feel ripped off like I do now. I know a lot of people have been feeling the same, the Top Gear Festival Sydney facebook page has had many posts of extreme dissatisfaction, including my own, but they just delete the posts. Before they deleted my posts they said they would get in contact with me, but I'm still waiting. I am interested in what other Aussie fans thought of it all...I don't know if I will bother going again, I'm quite soured by the above experience. |

That sounds awful, Eclair. Since they are deleting the FB complaints people are posting, maybe you should try to get what you posted here on as many TG fan sites and blogs as you can. Or send it to the editors of the Sydney papers. Are you going to try and get your money back?  |
