I picked up this exchange on James' twitter account earlier today -
Tweeter: @mrjamesmay would you ever consider going on strictly come dancing if you got the call James' reply: I have had the call. Said no. #StrictlyNoParticipation
Must admit, I'd wondered if James had ever been approached about this; after all, he has a music degree, though that's not necessarily any help in this area! I'm quietly pleased that he refused (though I have a sneaking feeling that Mr Hammond might be up for it at some later stage in his career!)

I'd heard before that he'd been approached for Strictly and that he'd turned it down. Must've been either on here or FG
To be honest, I can't even imagine Hammond accepting an offer to go on it, despite his rep for being unable to say no. Ballroom dancing is just the naffest thing.
I'm old enough to remember Come Dancing ("Here are Shirley and Melvyn representing Home Counties South, to perform the military two-step. They are 21 and work for the Civil Service. Her dress is made from 200 yards of net and the sequins were all sewn on by her mother") and I've never really recovered

With Come Dancing I was always waiting for "Melvyn's waistcoat is covered in mother-of-pearl sequins, and every one of them sewn on by himself". it used to be the formation teams that got me, and do you remember the Freestyle round? Now that really brought on nightmares!

That would be classic. James doing a tango in tight red shiny Lycra topped with glitter and brylcreem. My goodness what a thought and a terrible yet funny thought at that. At least you'd all get a very fine view of his pert bottom.
Come Dancing - God save us. It was banned in my house but I sneaked a view once with my brothers and we all desperately wanted someone to trip and fall over their voile.

I used to LOVE Come Dancing. I grew up wanting one of those ballroom dresses! When I was a student in the early nineties, we'd all pile around to my then-BF's house (because he had a telly), drink lots of cheap beer and watch Come Dancing. It was the highlight of the week. Mind you, my grandfather was a ballroom dancing instructor for a while, and I've also been involved in making dance instruction DVDs myself (bellydancing, not ballroom!), so I think dancing's a bit in my blood Having said that, I can't imagine any of the TG boys on Strictly to be honest - it's not James at all and it's far too disciplined for Richard. Weirdly though, if it wasn't for his dodgy back/hips/everything else, I can imagine Jeremy being a reasonable dancer if he put his mind to it (which he wouldn't). He has surprisingly elegant hands.

The "lots of cheap beer" was key
