Spotted a couple of tweets saying that some people were turned away from the filming today because of "over subscribed audience tickets". I'm trying to imagine how angry I would be - to get to Dunsfold I need a four hour drive down from Lancashire and that usually means an overnight stop as it's too much to go there and back safely in a day. If I got to the gate and was told I couldn't go in, I would be positively incandescent!

Oops, not good! Looks like Applause Store have been a bit 'ambitious but rubbish' this time....

Annoying but i'm sure it states it is not guarenteed entry in the small print They always over subscribe, the first time we went, we met up with a woman who's friend had been turned away the previous week because they arrived late'ish. It's not the best way of getting audience members but Applause are not the only compnay to do it this way. Even the BBC work this way Obvious tip - if anyone is lucky enough to get tickets, get there very early and sit in the lay by's if necessary! ;D And on that bombshell..... The reserve list for Summer 2013 is now open ;D

Wow, that was quick off the mark! I'll have to get onto that in the morning - too late to go through the Applause Store process now, especially as I've had a couple of glasses of wine.

Hmm. Wasn't mad on the first part of the granny car film - some very nice touches (especially the reworking of the A-Team music), but it seemed a bit stretched. However, the Range Rover film was Top Gear at its best, a superb piece of work with some beautiful cinematography and James at his best. James McAvoy was really good fun and there were moments in the second part of the granny car film that made me laugh out loud. I don't think it was entirely successful - it would probably have been better as a one-part film - but the ladies that helped with the road test were great fun and it wasn't as bad as, say, the Sweeney film. So 7/10 for me - could have been better but wasn't a complete loss

I'm afraid I found the granny car film the least funny segment in the history of Top Gear. Liked the news, the SIARPC and James' review of the Range Rover, so I gave it a 6.

I enjoyed the granny car segment more than I expected to. It was a bit patronising, though. My 83 year old mother would be incensed at some of the sweeping generalisations contained in it - in fact, probably was incensed, seeing as she watches Top Gear. I need to rewatch the Range Rover segment because I was interrupted by Skype while it was on, so missed part of it. Like James McAvoy, but even appearing in Macbeth is no excuse for a beard like that.

I really liked this episode. I think the granny car segment was great. I'm not that old but I'm already to the point where I want one button for this not a whole selection. Bingo. I went with my cousin some months ago, it took 6 hours of my life that I will never get back. I was bored to tears. I think the idea of simplification in our high tech world really appealed to my lack of tech with my smart phone etc. I don't know about the music and clapping as I'm not familiar with it.James' range rover enthusiasm was contagious and I love James McAvoy, beard or not. I gave it a nine, easy to please I guess. I like the easy flow of it.

Ok so not enough James for my liking ;D but what there was, was the best bit of the whole episode. Sorry James but i always laugh when you fall over or slip, so thanks for that ;D ;D I hope the "Christmas Special" will be a TG Masterpiece, because IMO this series has been some what lacking in places. *ducks to avoid missiles*

I hope the "Christmas Special" will be a TG Masterpiece, because IMO this series has been some what lacking in places. *ducks to avoid missiles*I think it has been a little bit flat at time, and mostly, that's been down to things not being edited tightly enough, or an idea that was a bit thin to begin with being overstretched. I'm hoping it's just the result of them being a bit out of practice after the long, enforced break. I'm also crossing everything for the "Christmas Special" because it was having too much time to play with that ultimately ruined the India special - tighter editing and losing some of the less successful scenes would have made all the difference - and running it over two parts is a big risk. But then again, all the boys love Africa, and Jeremy absolutely adores Uganda, so hopefully, they've learned their lesson, and it's simply an epic journey that needs the extra time.

I enjoyed the whole show despite a bit of discomfort with the ageist premise of Jeremy and Richard's piece. Gotta admit though I laughed quit a bit and the ladies were good sports. In a very round about way, as Viv mentioned, the segment did bring up a point about simplifying cars for older people. I'm sure this will never be addressed by the car industry because the market can't be that strong for "cars for the elderly". Just buying a base model without all the doodads doesn't cover other needs like height of seat as you enter, visibility over the dash and around the car. My mother's last car was a PT Cruiser (obviously not for the looks) because it addressed those issues. It was also safe and in an affordable maintenance and insurance category. Did anyone else think of this during that segment? Any who, I thought it was another good episode and James' piece was beautifully filmed and took advantage of the environment it was filmed in. Worth their trip.

I honestly expected to hate the "cars for old people" segment, but I didn't. It had parts that made me cringe, true, but as a whole it was a lot more watchable than I expected, and quite funny at times.
News was passable but not great, SIARPC was very nice.
And once again, James was excellent. Great segment, both informative, relevant, interesting, funny and quite unusual. No wonder I like that guy. ;D
And I'm quite excited about next week ...

They are professionals, making very professional and entertaining entertainment, but some of the old ... joy and enthusiasm seems to have gone missing.

James McAvoy was really the highlight of the episode for me. He was obviously having such a wonderful time both during the interview and during the lap, and he seems like just such a fun person. Loved the golf-buggy hooning story. Frankly, this episode could have done with a bit more of McAvoy f**king around in a ridiculous car, and a little less of the "Rover James."
And speaking of James, I agree that he was in top form driving that outlandish Range Rover. For someone who bills himself as sensible and who is regularly mocked for being a cautious and boring driver, he really seemed to be having all of the fun out there in the Nevada wilderness.
I gave it a 6 - it's okay, but not brilliant, and the "old person car" segment was pretty cringeworthy. I kind of think it was a pity to put those three women through such a mockery, but they were all very jolly about it, shambolic though the experience was.

I enjoyed it all. I liked James McEvoy very much - so enthusiastic. I loved the Range Rover 'review' and thought James was excellent. And I especially liked the older person's car part - it was unashamedly silly and I own up to being rather silly myself. Older people with a sense of humour would see it for what it was, I'm sure. I checked it out with some older quiz teams down the pub and they all loved it.Those three ladies were absolutely excellent and I didn't think they were mocked at all......oh Lord, is it just me? Or am I remembering my Dad? He would have loved the references as he lived with it!

My boss showed it to his 80-something father-in-law and told him that he was going to get him a 'Rover James' as his next car... ;D

I really liked this episode. I have no idea who James McEvoy is, but he was quite entertaining. The news cracked me up. I also thought the elderly car was funny and not too far over the bounds of good taste. James' Range Rover segment was good as well, but overall there wasn't enough James in this episode. He seems to have been short-changed a little in this series...was he filming some other project at the time? (9)
