It looks like the epic road trip through Italy and France that Jeremy and Richard have been on over the last couple of weeks might be for this year's Christmas DVD. Looks like this one might be a little bit more serious than the last couple of years, with some seriously gorgeous car porn and beautiful scenery (Iain May's Twitter feed is a spectacular source of spoilers as he's been photographing everything as he goes). The theme appears to be 'the perfect journey' and Stiggy makes an appearance. At least some of the ladies of the JMB may save a few pennies on this one though - whilst last year was James and Jeremy doing the Christmas thing, and James and Richard did the previous two, unless there's more filming to come (or Iain May's telling porkies), this year it appears to be the turn of Jeremy and Richard. Still, that should please Jonathan Ross, who openly 'ships' them

It's official - Christmas Tat 2013 is 'The Perfect Road Trip' - the first ever Jeremy and Richard Christmas DVD. It's released on 18th November and can be pro-ordered now: www.amazon.co.uk/Top-Gear-Perfect-Road-Trip/dp/B00EZ5VFBENot one for the James fans, perhaps, but definitely a treat for the Top Gear fans. It looks like it might be less silly than some previous years, combining the daftness of TG holiday tat with the kind of car content usually found in Jeremy's solo DVDs. I can't wait!

Behind-the-scenes on the new Top Gear DVDExclusive: watch Jeremy and Richard’s video diary from The Perfect Road Tripwww.topgear.com/uk/car-news/top-gear-perfect-road-trip-behind-the-scenes-2013-11-08Seven days, over 1,000 miles, 20 cars, two boats, a motorbike and a singular purpose: to get from Venice to Pau, France, home of the very first Grand Prix race in 1901. When Clarkson and Hammond sat down in the summer to plan their perfect road trip, this is what they came up with. And happily, they filmed it all. And took along just a few of their favourite cars, including a Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Huayra, Model T Ford, Ferrari F12, Porsche 911 GT3, Bentley Continental GTC, Rolls Royce Phantom, BAC Mono, V8 F-Type, Golf GTi and Hammond’s very own 1962 E-Type roadster… Sound good? Well, every day on TopGear.com we’re going to show you a video diary of said trip put together just for you by Jeremy and Richard. And as well as some incredible cars and stunning scenery, you’ll also learn a lot more about Hammond’s dietary habits.Enjoy part one, and we'll show a new diary every day here on TopGear.com at 1pm GMT, starting on Monday 11 November. See you then! The Perfect Road Trip is available for download on iTunes right now (if you're in the UK) and will be out on DVD and Blu-Ray from November 18 (It should be called The Top Gear "Almost" Perfect Road Trip since James isn't involved)

Looks like the boys got themselves in a spot of bother while they were filming this one!

Just watched it (someone has posted a rip of the iTunes release on YouTube - my DVD won't be with me till next week) and really enjoyed it. Definitely one that does what it says on the tin. Possibly could have been slightly more tightly edited, but this one does run to almost an hour and a half, so considerably longer than some of the Christmas DVDs. There are some stunning cars, and I have a few ideas for how I want to spend my holiday next year, although my friend is a bit of a Hammond when it comes to food (when we were in Greece she refused to eat something 'made of bits' and there was also an incident with a plate of octopus pasta), so it could equally serve as a warning. Far less silly than either 'Apocalypse' or 'Top Gear at the Movies' and with a distinct lack of things blowing up - but a lot of gorgeous vehicles, and not just of the four-wheeled variety. They do touch on a number of things that have been visited in previous TG episodes, but after 20 series, that's not surprising really - and anyway, certain optional extras in a car are always funny
