"There are ladies," said May when asked about the gender of the Top Gear fanbase.
"They are not necessarily car nuts.
"Some of them, let's be honest, are slightly being dragged around by their husbands or boyfriends.
"But I think we've got a fair share of fans who are women and who are actually there because, for some reason that I can't understand, they DO like us."
