Jeremy Clarkson to host Have I Got News For You8 April 2015 Jeremy Clarkson has hosted the satirical news quiz several times Jeremy Clarkson is set to make his first appearance on the BBC since losing his job as co-presenter on Top Gear. The controversial broadcaster will appear as the guest host of Have I Got News for You on 24 April. "Jeremy's contract has not been renewed on Top Gear but he isn't banned from appearing on the BBC," a BBC spokesman said. Clarkson has hosted the satirical news quiz on numerous occasions. During one appearance in 2008, he threw a pen at regular panellist Ian Hislop that left the latter with a cut on his face. Clarkson was suspended by the BBC on 10 March following a "fracas" with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon in a hotel in North Yorkshire. Mr Tymon suffered swelling and a split lip in the assault on 4 March and visited a hospital A&E department for his injuries. Following an internal investigation, the BBC announced on 25 March Clarkson's contract on Top Gear would not be renewed. More than a million fans signed a petition to reinstate the presenter, but BBC director general Tony Hall said "a line has been crossed" and "there cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another". On Tuesday, North Yorkshire Police said there was "no need for further action" against Clarkson following an inquiry into the "fracas". Top Gear is watched by some 350 million viewers worldwide and is one of the BBC's biggest properties - with overseas sales worth an estimated £50m a year. The BBC has said the show will continue without Clarkson, however it is unclear whether co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond will remain. www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-32214799?comments

Jeremy Clarkson to make BBC return hosting Have I Got News For YouClarkson has hosted the satirical news show several times Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson will return to the BBC to host an episode of satirical news quiz Have I Got News For You next month. He will join team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton when the new series returns on 2 October.Clarkson pulled out of hosting the BBC One panel show in April, after being sacked from Top Gear after a "fracas". He is set to front a new motoring show for Amazon next year, alongside co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond. Clarkson's appearance on Have I Got News For You will be his first on the BBC since his departure from Top Gear. He was suspended in March after assaulting producer Oisin Tymon, and the BBC later confirmed his contract would not be renewed. At the time, BBC director-general Tony Hall said "a line has been crossed" and that "there cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another". Clarkson signed up to present Have I Got News For You on Friday, and his appearance will mark the start of the show's 50th series. When he pulled out of hosting in April, production company Hat Trick had suggested the presenter would appear on the show soon. A statement said: "On reflection, Jeremy Clarkson has decided not to host Have I Got News For You. We fully expect him to resume his hosting duties later in the year." Pointless assistant host Richard Osman will be one of the two guests joining Clarkson for the opening episode. www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34294275

Jeremy Clarkson to present first episode of Have I Got News for You
Ex-Top Gear presenter returns to BBC to host satirical panel show for first time since corporation chose not to renew his contract following assault on producerJeremy Clarkson pulled out of the last series of Have I Got News for You following the furore over his fracas with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon. Photograph: Matt Dunham/AP Alasdair Glennie and agencies@alasdairglennieFriday 18 September 2015 14.07 BST Last modified on Friday 18 September 2015 16.05 BSTJeremy Clarkson will present the first episode of Have I Got News For You when the new series returns to BBC1 on 2 October. The former BBC star will be welcomed back into the BBC fold just six months after he was dropped from Top Gear. He pulled out of the last series of the satirical panel show following the furore over his fracas with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon, who was hurt in a 30-second-long assault on 4 March and had to go to hospital. In March, BBC director general Tony Hall said “a line has been crossed” and insisted “there cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another” when he suspended Clarkson from his hit motoring show. And on Friday, rival broadcaster Sky said it would not be prepared to work with the controversial star because his alleged history of using racist language would compromise its “family brand”. However, Clarkson will return to BBC1 next month, alongside Have I Got News For You team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton, with Pointless presenter Richard Osman as one of the guests. Clarkson was dropped by the BBC in March after he admitted hitting Oisin Tymon at a north Yorkshire hotel after a day’s filming. He was furious that the producer had given him a cold meat platter instead of a steak, because the hotel’s kitchens had closed. Tymon needed hospital treatment, prompting an internal BBC inquiry and a huge public backlash at Clarkson’s conduct. Bosses were already said to be frustrated by a series of gaffes and decided not to renew the controversial star’s contract. His fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond subsequently quit. Following the fracas, Clarkson pulled out of an appearance on the last series of Have I Got News For You scheduled for 24 April. However, the programme’s maker Hat Trick said at the time: “We fully expect him to resume his hosting duties later in the year.” Hat Trick boss Jimmy Mulville joked: “Maybe we will get the producer on so he can hit Jeremy Clarkson live on television.” In July, Clarkson, Hammond and May announced a deal worth a reported £160m to make 36 episodes of a new motoring show for Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service. Recent trademark applications made by his lawyers Olswang hinted the trio may call the show Gear Knobs, Gear Nobs or Speedbird, although Amazon has said it had yet to decide on a name. The new programme will be a direct challenge to the BBC, which plans to continue making Top Gear with a new presenter lineup led by Chris Evans. www.theguardian.com/media/2015/sep/18/jeremy-clarkson-to-present-first-episode-of-have-i-got-news-for-you

Lookalikes . . . Herman Munster and Richard Osman Getty Images— IF you caught last week’s episode of Have I Got News For You, you will have noticed that I got a fairly rough ride from the Pointless geek, Richard Osman... who’d turned up with a gag writer and enough comedy ammunition to mow down an entire army. And I couldn’t really fight back because I’d told myself before the show began that no matter what anyone said about my BBC dismissal, I had it coming and I’d therefore have to just grin and bear it. Which was a shame. Because when Osman said I’d signed with Amazon Past Their Prime, I was sorely tempted to point out that I wouldn’t be taking any career advice from a Herman Munster lookalike who earns a crust by being a Baldrick on a teatime quiz show www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/suncolumnists/jeremyclarkson/6683707/Jeremy-Clarkson-says-beardies-look-like-theyre-on-the-run-from-the-police.html

Richard Osman: I didn't bully Jeremy Clarkson on Have I Got News for You. Nothing touches him
"I do think if you've been fired for bullying somebody there’s some penance," said the Pointless host. "You come on the show, you’ve got to face a little bit of something"By Susanna Lazarus Thursday 8 October 2015 at 10:22AM Jeremy Clarkson returned to the BBC last week to host Have I Got News for You, seven months on from the infamous "fracas" that led to his firing. Since then he's signed on the dotted line for Amazon with Richard Hammond and James May, while the Beeb have recruited Chris Evans to front their revamped Top Gear format. So with plenty of water under the bridge, it was high time for some gentle ribbing – and who better to deliver than Pointless host Richard Osman who served as a panelist on last week's episode of HIGNIFY, a commission he took very seriously. "I do think if you've been fired for bullying somebody there’s some penance. You come on the show, you’ve got to face a little bit of something," he told an audience at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. "I think he thought Ian [Hislop] was going to have a go at him and he was quite surprised that I did. Ian said to me afterwards, 'thank you so much for leading the charge because people were expecting me to and it meant I could just sit back and laugh.'" Osman did admit that although he had enjoyed a largely positive response to his appearance, "a few people said 'I thought you bullied Jeremy Clarkson.' I thought, 'I'm not bullying Jeremy Clarkson'. Nothing touches him, he's become enormously wealthy through what he's done. I've met him a number of times, he's a perfectly pleasant man." The Pointless host revealed he joined Clarkson for a "placatory cigarette" after filming – "even though I don't smoke" – before heading out for a drink together. Although he did admit the pair had played table tennis on a previous occasion and things got rather more heated. "I beat him 21-19, he was effing and jeffing after that. He was furious, flinging his bat at the wall," he joked. Osman was appearing at Cheltenham with his Pointless co-presenter Alexander Armstrong and revealed the BBC1 quiz show had been commissioned for a further "155 or something" instalments, taking them past the 1,000 episode milestone – a landmark both presenters suggested they acknowledge by finally playing the game. But, if they did – in the words of Armstrong – "A) who'd fill our shoes? And B) how could we be certain they wouldn't then be given the role?" Luckily Osman had the solution: "We need to get people so famous they’re not really available. We talked a while ago about Stephen Fry being me and Victoria Wood being you because you know they’d be brilliant but they wouldn’t be able to commit the sort of time we commit to it." www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-10-08/richard-osman-i-didnt-bully-jeremy-clarkson-on-have-i-got-news-for-you-nothing-touches-him
