Top Gear controversialist Jeremy Clarkson, volcano voiced actor Brian Blessed and cricket legend Geoff Boycott have all got very big heads.
In fact, their heads are more than 50 metres (160ft) in diameter… as recreated by York Maze.
The three likenesses have been cut into the maize fields of Tom Pearcy’s farm for this summer’s giant puzzle
Chosen as representatives of no-nonsense, straight talking Yorkshire folk, Boycott, Blessed and Clarkson were Tom’s picks.
“As a proud Yorkshireman I wanted to create a design that celebrated Yorkshire,” he said, as the Maze was revealed on Friday (July 11).
“A design to welcome the Tour de France to the county was an obvious theme this year but the maze wasn´t going to be ready in time so my attention turned to other ways to celebrate ‘God’s own County’.”
Geoff Boycott was given a tour of the maze earlier this week.
“It looks enormous,” said the former England batsman whose acerbic analysis has made him a sought after cricket commentator.
“I’ve never had a head as big as here. I tell everybody, when I batted I liked a bit of confidence. If I’d have seen this earlier it would have given me confidence.
“It’s very good, it’s definitely me, they’ve caught the chin well, my eyes and the hat.
“I think that kids and families visiting this summer will love it. Kids like getting lost, shouting out for their friends, the mums and dads will enjoy it.”
Actor and adventurer Brian Blessed was on hand today to launch the new maze.
“I love any opportunity to come to Yorkshire and this project is amazing!” he boomed
“To be invited to come to Yorkshire where my soul belongs and see my face in a giant maze with Geoffrey and Jeremy is a tremendous honour.
“I always say that Howarth is the centre of the Earth, but I may possibly have to change that and say that this York Maze is the centre of the Earth.”
Maze creator Tom was thrilled that both Boycott and Blessed were able to visit this week.
“Unfortunately Jeremy couldn’t make it but I hope he will be able to visit before the maize is harvested to be fed to the cows at the beginning of September.”
He hopes visitors will love the latest design.
“They may get stumped trying to find their way round the brim of Geoffrey Boycott’s hat, and get lost in Brian Blessed’s beard, but they should be able to race round Jeremy Clarkson’s head,” he said.
Between the heads of the three Yorkshiremen are Yorkshire roses which also form part of the 6km (3.7 miles) of maze pathways.
