Top Gear Christmas DVD 2014-The Perfect Road Trip 2Jeremy and Richard have been in Italy this month to film the Christmas DVD "IN THE past couple of weeks I’ve been filming my annual Christmas-time DVD. This has two benefits. First, it contributes greatly to my kitchen extension, and second, it means I get to spend a couple of weeks in Italy, driving an awful lot of other people’s very expensive cars extremely quickly, round corners, while shouting. Often I have been shouting at myself because sometimes the experience of going quickly round a corner in the Italian sunshine has demonstrated a flaw that didn’t reveal itself when I drove the same car here in the UK for a review on these pages. I was, you may recall, much taken with the BMW M4 coupé when I wrote about it here a month back. I stand by that review. It did everything I asked of it very well. But at the Mugello racetrack in Tuscany, I asked it to do a big skid when going round a corner and it was absolutely hopeless."-Jeremy Clarkson, 24 August 2014 www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/ingear/clarkson/article1449146.ecejamesmayboard.proboards.com/thread/205/jeremy-times?page=23&scrollTo=296462

In 2013 Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond embarked on what they hoped would be the perfect road trip. It started well and ended, quite frankly, very badly. Unbowed, the Top Gear pair are back for another crack and this time they're hoping to avoid inconveniences like apprehension by the French police. Welcome, then, to The Perfect Road Trip... 2. Once again, Clarkson and Hammond are seeking joy and perfection wherever it may be with a range of fast, beautiful and exciting cars unleashed on glorious roads amongst gorgeous scenery and drenched in Mediterranean sunshine. As part of their arduous research into perfection, the duo will also undertake some ridiculous challenges and hilarious stunts culminating in a strangely literal car race on the island of Capri. Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond 03 November 2014Behind the scenes on Top Gear’s new DVD: day twoUPDATED: It's day two filming our DVD, and Hammond has a bit of a moment in a Jaguar F-Type Coupe... Only on TopGear.combcove.me/3c19u5heIt's day two of TG's Perfect Road Trip, and Hammond's had a bit of an accidentWe're back! Because, frankly, we think we can do better. Our first Perfect Road Trip ended badly. This time we're determined to get things right. So, it's Italy... 500 miles from Venice to the Isle of Capri via Bologna, Siena, Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano on the stunning Amalfi coast. This time we're pulling out all the stops for perfection with the McLaren 650S and its fellow 200mph-clubber, the Lamborghini Huracan. Throw in the mind-boggling 900 horsepower hybrid McLaren P1 and you see we mean business. For a blast along the timeless Amalfi coast, we choose two classic 1960s Alfa Romeos. Being in the land of so much culture inspires The Stig to rearrange some furniture - in a bad way. The Midlands Gastronaut searches for his favourite local food - in the wrong way. For our finale, we have the only cars feasible on the Isle of Capri - two Ford Capris! Surely nothing can ruin our Perfect Road Trip 2? Sound good? Well, in the coming days you’ll be able to go behind the scenes on each day of the trip, only on TopGear.com. We’ll update the playlist above day by day. And today, it's day two, and a rather unfortunate moment for Hammond in an F-Type Coupe... bcove.me/3c19u5he The Perfect Road Trip 2 is available for download on iTunes right now (if you're in the UK) and is out on DVD and Blu-Ray from 17 November ( you can place your order right here) www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/behind-the-scenes-perfect-road-trip-2-2014-11-3Behind the Scenes: The Perfect Road Trip 2 DVD, day one Behind the scenes with Clarkson and Hammond as they check out the McLaren 650S and Lamborghini Huracan bcove.me/2xtg19ko

If you need a recap, the telly boys are travelling 500 miles though Italy's prettiest parts, using McLarens, Alfa Romeos and Ford Capris. Yes, really. But day two doesn't go particularly well for Hammond. A bit of exuberance on track in an F-Type results in a rather unfortunate Jag/wall meet-and-greet. www.topgear.com/uk/photos/ten-things-we-learned-this-week-2014-11-07

Richard Hammond Tries to Avoid Jeremy Clarkson on Road TripsRichard Hammond has joked the best way to enjoy a road trip with his Top Gear co-host Jeremy Clarkson is by ignoring him. The pair enjoyed a dream holiday touring Italy driving various super cars for their new DVD The Perfect Road Trip 2, although Hammond admitted they did not always get on. He said: “Jeremy insists on eating fiddly foods that I don’t like and going and looking at boring parts of rocks when I’d rather drive around, so there is some arguing in it.” Asked how to survive a trip with Clarkson, Hammond said: “By being in a different car, that helps. Switching my radio off, so he can’t talk to me. Ignoring my telephone. These are the coping mechanisms that we’ve both devised and we both use the same tactics. “To be fair we have a laugh actually, it’s great fun. But yes he’s… awful!” The Top Gear host admitted it was a very different experience to filming the Christmas special in Argentina, when the presenters of the show and their crew fled the country as a result of protests over the plate on Clarkson’s Porsche. It read H982 FKL, which some interpreted as an insensitive reference to the Falklands War in 1982, although the show’s makers insisted it had not been planned. Hammond confessed: “It wasn’t [fun]… I think some members of the crew had a very frightening experience. “All I’ll say on that is, various people have had their say, the government over there and various people over here. There’s not a lot to add from me because you’ll see it in the show. “When the special goes out you’ll be able to see for yourself, and judge for yourself what happened and what you think of it. People will make up their own minds.” Top Gear: The Perfect Road Trip 2, released Monday November 17, is available to pre-order now on DVD and Blu-Ray from www.bbcshop.com. www.irishexaminer.com/examviral/celeb-life/richard-hammond-tries-to-avoid-jeremy-clarkson-on-road-trips-298030.html

The medieval tower B&B Jeremy and Richard visited in Bologna, Italy
The Prendiparte Tower: Sleeping with HistoryIn Bologna, you can have a medieval tower all to yourself…Imagine sleeping in a 900-year-old tower in the heart of a medieval town in Italy. You can fulfill this fantasy in Bologna, where the Prendiparte Tower, one of the few remaining towers in town, has been converted into a bed & breakfast consisting of one multi-level suite. It sleeps up to four people but it is generally reserved by couples, especially to celebrate an anniversary or a birthday or simply to spend a romantic night in a magical building suffused with history. “It is a place that emphasizes feelings, that allows you to dream, to test the sensitivity of your partner, his or her attention to the peculiar, the historical, the beautiful,” says the tower's owner, Matteo Giovanardi, a jovial Bolognese man who inherited the tower in 1972 from his father, who had bought it both to make an investment and to fulfill his passion for historical buildings. Giovanardi himself lived in the tower before transforming it into a B&B. “Living in such a place allows you to completely isolate yourself from the outside world, to really be alone with yourself. It amplifies your senses. Protected by the thick ancient walls, your emotions are more easily released.” CENTRAL YET SECLUDEDThe tower sits right in the centre of town, in the small Sant'Alò square. Many locals do not know it exists. Yet, at 60 meters, it is the second tallest tower in town, second only to the Torre Asinelli, the symbol of the city. Thanks to its central location, guests have easy access to all that Bologna has to offer, from historical buildings and churches to cozy little squares, from restaurants serving typical Bolognese food to high-end stores of Italian and international designers. But, as soon as you step back into the tower, you find yourself in a different dimension, surrounded by silence and history, the outside world fast forgotten. “I don't just sell a room, a place to sleep – I sell an emotion,” Giovanardi says. “You touch the wall and think of the laborer who, perched on a wood scaffolding, lay those bricks in the Middle Ages.” THE TOWER’S HISTORYThe tower has 11 floors and a rooftop terrace. The first three levels consist of the living room, the bedroom loft and bathroom, and the kitchen/dining room. To learn about its tumultuous history, visitors can enjoy a guided visit of the tower through all 11 floors up to the rooftop terrace. The name Prendiparte, which means “take sides,” refers to the powerful Bolognese family that built the tower in the 12th century to serve as a military post both for defense and attack (the Prendiparte were on the Pope's side during the time when the town was divided between those who wanted independence from the Catholic Church and those who wanted to remain under its rule). At the end of the 16th century, the tower was acquired by the Catholic Church, which used it first as a seminar and later converted it into a prison for those guilty of crimes against Christian morals. Today one can still see the inscriptions, drawings and complaints engraved on the walls by prisoners. The visit culminates in the terrace, where visitors will be rewarded from climbing all those stairs and ladders with a panoramic view of Bologna, with its red roofs, medieval buildings, towers and green hills in the background, while sipping a glass of prosecco. Giovanardi is happy to help guests individualize their stay. Some guests book the tower without the partner knowing in order to set up a very special surprise for them. With the help of Giovanardi, they craft a carefully arranged stay, taking care of all the details, from the type of music that will be playing upon their arrival to the rose petals that will be scattered on the bed to the breakfast treats. If that is still not enough, why not have a literary interpreter come decant one of Dante's sonnets, enjoy some live jazz or classical music or organize a wine and food tasting with a private chef? Giovanardi can arrange this and more, with the enthusiasm and passion that characterize everything he does to share the magic of this “exclusive haven” - as he likes to call the tower - with his guests. - See more at: www.italymagazine.com/featured-story/inspired-stays-sleeping-history-bologna#sthash.9v7STgp4.dpuf bolognauncovered.com/2013/05/21/the-prendiparte-tower-sleeping-with-history/
