Jeremy Clarkson on QI: Five things we've learned Unlike the cautious host we saw on Have I Got News For You, Clarkson was back in his element on QI - once again seemingly entirely comfortable with his status as PC pariah says Ed PowerFingers on buzzers: Jeremy Clarkson joined Alan Davies's team on QI Photo: BBC/Talkback/Brian Ritchie By Ed Power11:36PM BST 23 Oct 2015 When Jeremy Clarkson departed Top Gear in a cloud of acrimony and expletives last March, it seemed a long shot that old wobbly jowls would ever grace the BBC again. But, with a big fat deal from Amazon in his back pocket, the huffing, puffing anti-hero must be feeling suddenly magnanimous, his appearance on QI marking his second turn on the Beeb in less than a month. At this rate, he'll be fronting a Hug A Cyclist telethon alongside Kirsty Wark by Christmas. Last time out, he was a cautious host of Have I Got News For You, visibly cringing as the inevitable gags about his allegedly slap-happy exit from TG whistled down like quippy mortar shells. As panelist on Stephen Fry's cuddly trivia chinwag he was altogether more laid-back – radiating much of the breezy bonhomie and pugilistic incredulity that made him so beloved/derided during his Top Gear epoch. Here are five takeaways from his QI appearance, in an episode that took as its theme warfare across the centuries. Jeremy Clarkson joined Alan Davies, Stephen Fry, Sheila Hancock and Jimmy Carr (Photo: BBC/Talkback/Brian Ritchie) 1. Clarkson Isn't Opposed To Trendy New Technology – Provided It's Made Look Like Something Out of Seventies Children's Television
You expected one of Clarkson's patented petrol-head rants as Fry passed around a vast sheet of crinkly card which seemed to serve no purpose beyond delivering paper-cuts with maximum efficiency. It was, in fact, the blueprint for a revolutionarily easy to fold map. The touchy feely aspect of the demonstration won Jezza over – he practically cooed with child-like wonder as the sheet flexed and unflexed in his hands. Incidentally, this is the first documented case of Jeremy Clarkson and "childlike wonder" popping up in the same sentence. 2. His Dress Sense Hasn't Got Any Better
In just his second television spot in over six months, Clarkson sported an Alan Partridge-esque corduroy sports coat and wrinkly shirt. With all that Amazon change clinking in his pockets, he could surely have sprung for a new wardrobe– or, failing that, a functioning steam iron. 3. Clarkson Would Have Been The Best A-Team Special Guest Ever
A quiz show about war was inevitably going to touch on firearms and Clarkson came locked and loaded with an anecdote about literally not being able to hit a barn door with an automatic machine gun. "Nobody could ever possibly get shot with an AK47," he elaborated, gesturing towards opposing team captain Jimmy Carr. "If I aimed it at you, most of the audience would be history." As the comic correctly pointed out, this qualified Clarkson for honourary membership of the A-Team as they were notoriously rubbish at mowing down enemy henchmen. Sheila Hancock and Jimmy Carr (Photo: BBC/Talkback/Brian Ritchie) 4. If The Motoring Doesn't Work Out He Could Front A TV Shows About Obscure Weaponry
It was shrugged shoulders all round as Fry presented the teams with a picture of two men hefting a enormous, cannon-like weapon. The exception was Clarkson who immediately pegged it as something called a "punt gun", popular with deranged 19th century hunters keen on eviscerating entire flocks of wild fowl with a single trigger-squeeze. "I know you're a vegetabl-ist," Clarkson said to teammate Alan Davies. "But if you hit a duck [with a punt gun] it vaporizes it – apart from licking grass, there's no nutritional value from an atomized duck." Boorish, baffling and a bonkers, this was vintage Clarkson. Somewhere off-screen you could practically hear James May and Richard Hammond swooning. Jeremy Clarkson was recently a guest host on Have I For News For You (Photo: BBC) 5. It's Official: Clarkson Can Finally Laugh At Himself Once More On Have I Got News For You, Clarkson turned several shades of off-white whenever anyone mentioned his troubles with the BBC. Throughout QI he was entirely comfortable with his status as PC pariah. Describing Native Americans as Indians, he added "I've gone and trod in one of those landmines again." But it turned out that "American Indian" was a perfectly acceptable term. Raising his eyebrows, Clarkson mock-sighed and contemplated the BBC studio that loomed all around. "It's a whole new world since I left." www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/tv-and-radio-reviews/11950219/Jeremy-Clarkson-on-QI-Five-Things-Weve-Learned.html

S14-E4 Noble RotPremiere S14-E4 Noble Rot Friday 10pm - 10:30pm BBC Two HD SUB WIDE Reviewby Jane Rackham The guests are almost redundant in this “nobles and (k)nobs” edition partly because Jeremy Clarkson’s deafness means he’s about five minutes behind everyone else. Not only that, he keeps forgetting what the question was. But it’s mainly because Sandi Toksvig and Alan Davies are on comedy fire, bouncing off each other with lightning speed. Sara Pascoe and Jason Manford do well to get a word in edgeways while at one point Clarkson mutters quietly, “This series is changing!” A two-hander maybe? Meanwhile, there’s a new element, which Toksvig calls her “randy Scandi” or random Scandinavian fact — I think we’ll be getting a lot more of them in future shows. Summary Sandi Toksvig invites Jason Manford, Sara Pascoe, Jeremy Clarkson and Alan Davies to answer questions on the subject of 'noble rot'. Since the questions are impossible to answer, points are awarded for being interesting rather than correct.
