Clarkson, Hammond and May search for Perth’s coolest cars
July 11, 2015 MELENIE AMBROSE PerthNow WHAT does it take to hand over the keys to your half-a-million-dollar supercar? Three magic words — Clarkson, Hammond and May. The former Top Gear hosts are due to arrive in Perth this week ahead of their first joint Australian stage show at the Perth Arena. In the lead-up to the event, producers have been scouring the nation for supercars for the 90-minute adrenaline-fuelled production. “I thought it was a joke at first,” John Novatsis, the Perth chief executive of a pest control company said on receiving a call to part with his “baby” — a $500,000 Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing. The show-stopping model was once described by Clarkson as “the greatest car in the world”. Mr Novatsis, a devoted Top Gear fan, said he was “honoured” to have his pride and joy on display and trusts his on-camera heroes. “You know it’s in good hands. The boys will look after it,” the 53-year-old said. Clarkson, Hammond & May Live event director Chris Secker promised all cars were “covered by the organiser’s insurance”. Car owners Reinaldo Nunes with his 458 Speciale Ferrari and John Novatsis with his SLS Gullwing Mercedes at Fabcar in Cannington ready for the Clarkson, Hammond and May mayhem. Photo: Ross SwanboroughMr Secker had been on the hunt for “hardworking, passionate and well-connected” car enthusiasts with access to “some real exotic and rare” vehicles. Scouring the internet, he came across a video on social media showcasing Fabcar, “merchants of high-octane” in Cannington. Fabcar dealer-principal Matthew Nunis said: “Our boss had actually said, ‘You should contact the Top Gear guys to see if we can supply some cars’.” Next thing, the phone rang. John Novatsis with his SLS Gullwing Mercedes. Photo: Ross Swanborough“It was like their ears were burning,” said operations manager Tom Brown, whose team got straight down to sourcing seven “unique” cars. These included a $900,000 Lamborghini Aventador — the closest thing to a “stealth fighter jet”, according to Clarkson — and a $690,000 Ferrari 458 Speciale. Contacting past customers to ask for their cars back was an interesting experience. “We said: ‘Oh, you know that car we sold you, can we have it back for a couple of days?’” Mr Brown said. With the lure of Super Fan tickets, which include pole-position seats and entry to a Q & A pre-event, car keys were happily handed over. Reinaldo Nunes with his 458 Speciale Ferrari. Photo: Ross Swanborough“I want to ask them what is the way forward now that Top Gear is gone,” said Mindarie entrepreneur Reinaldo Nunes, donor of the carbon-fibre Ferrari Speciale and an avid Top Gear watcher. Mr Secker said the three stars were “still very much weighing up their futures as to what they are going to do”. Clarkson, 55, was sacked in March after punching a Top Gear producer. Richard Hammond, 45, and James May, 52, quit the program shortly after. Rumours suggest Clarkson and crew will next team with rival UK broadcaster ITV. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May arrive for first Aussie live shows since leaving Top Gear
THE DAILY TELEGRAPH JULY 15, 2015 James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond are due to land in Australia today ahead of their Clarkson, Hammond and May Live shows. THE Top Gear crew are set to touch down in the country today ahead of their postponed live show tour.Petrolhead presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will this week kick off their motoring show in the wake of Clarkson’s sacking from Top Gear following his alleged assault on a BBC producer Oisin Tymon, whom he allegedly punched in the head after a day of filming. They’ve touted the 90-minute live arena show ‘The Cr-Ashes’ — a shot at the Ashes series currently underway in England in which Australia is trailing 0-1. The men will take on Team Australia which consists of Shane Jacobson, Steve Pizzati and Riana Crehan. “There are going to be a number of competitions between us and our Australian mates, Shane, Steve and Rhianna,” Hammond said. “We’re very good mates with them, so there will be this tremendous competition — although Shane Jacobson in any competition is the scariest human being because he is completely fearless. “Whether it’s rugby or cricket or whatever, there is always that rivalry that goes on between the two nations. “If we can bring some of that, it’d be great — albeit without a single English person in the audience! “Australia is great because there is so much opportunity for good-natured ribbing.” Their first show will take place in Perth, before the boys do their thing at Allphones Arena in Sydney from July 25. www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/sydney-confidential/jeremy-clarkson-richard-hammond-and-james-may-arrive-for-first-aussie-live-shows-since-leaving-top-gear/story-fni0cvc9-1227441642054

Picture: Alf SorbelloTHE petrolheads formerly of Top Gear have briefly appeared outside Perth Arena before heading inside for a show rehearsal. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were scheduled to attend the arena at 2.30pm, but didn’t appear until 3.43pm when they arrived in a black Land Rover. They stopped for just over two minutes to pose for the waiting media cluster, but the TV stars didn’t have much to say a part from they were “properly jet-lagged” and “sorry we were late, we were eating”. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May meet and greet Perth fans July 16, 2015 - 5:04PM Candice Barnes In true Top Gear style, former hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May perched themselves on sleek sports cars valued at more than a million dollars during a brief public appearance on Thursday afternoon. A group of eager fans joined the media pack which assembled to get a glimpse of the trio, who landed in Perth on Wednesday ahead of two live shows this weekend. Management for the TV stars apologised to the crowd for the hour-long delay in their arrival and said it was due to "other" engagements. The presenters posed with eager fans. Photo: Aaron Bunch The popular presenters did not take any questions but admitted they were "awfully jet-lagged". Either way, they seemed in good spirits as the trio happily signed autographs and posed for selfies with fans. James May was particularly generous with his time, until a producer gently guided him inside the Perth Arena for rehearsals. The former Top Gear hosts will take on Aussie personalities Shane Jacobson, Steve Pizzati and Riana Crehan in a live battle dubbed "the CrAshes". May gave the challengers a ribbing on social media. Clarkson, Hammond and May Live! will be staged on Saturday and Sunday at Perth Arena, with shows in Sydney the following weekend. Clarkson, Hammond and May: Live and on full throttle at Perth ArenaJuly 18, 2015 10:25pmPHIL HICKEY PerthNow Clarkson, Hammond and May don’t talk about Top Gear. Picture: Sean MiddletonTHEY weren’t allowed to mention the show that is hotwired into the hearts of revheads everywhere, but it didn’t matter. Some 8000 devotees at Perth Arena last night got what they wanted — an hour and a half of the dynamic chemistry that sparks when these three middle-aged Brits come together. Jeremy Clarkson made his grand entrance on a hovercraft to the tune of ABBA’s Dancing Queen, after James May and Richard Hammond rode out on motorcycles. “Welcome, to what for legal reasons is now called Clarkson, Hammond and May Live,” motormouth Clarkson said. A mock video of the trio acting in a 70s police show punching one another was also played at the start of the night. In the video, as Clarkson punched a man, a producer in the clip is heard to say “you’ve crossed the line” before firing him, a clear reference to his sacking by the BBC. Their first live show together in Australia was crammed with luxury supercars, mind-boggling car stunts and silly, yet hilarious challenges, dubbed ‘The Cr-Ashes.’ These involved the trio — Team England — competing against Team Australia, made up of actor Shane Jacobson, Top Gear Australia co-host Steve Pizzati and V8 Supercars’ anchor Riana Crehan. Throughout the evening Clarkson made a number of references to the fact they were all now without a job. Meanwhile May and Hammond questioned him about whether or not he had bought a Golf GTI. “I have bought a Golf GTI because I’m unemployed,” Clarkson confessed. Clarkson also expressed his hatred of cricket and how he dreaded playing it as a youngster due to his bad hayfever. Australia women’s hockey player Anna Flanagan made a surprise appearance at the show. She took part in a “running race” against James May. Flanagan won, despite the fact May was driving a car. Also among the highlights of the evening was the introduction of 11 supercars, brought out to the stage one after the other, much to the crowds delight. Among the supercars on display which were brought out included a Ferrari 458, a Mercedes SLS, a Lamborghini Huracan and an Audi R8. As the evening came to a close Clarkson, tongue in cheek, issued his own road safety message: “You must remember, please, on the way home you are on public roads and so, for heaven sake, I beg you, whatever you do — drive fast.” www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/clarkson-hammond-and-may-live-and-on-full-throttle-at-perth-arena/story-fnhocxo3-1227447519975
