Top Gear boxed set
THE Top Gear set is boxed up by removal men following Jeremy Clarkson’s sacking - as the remaining two presenters look set to follow him out of the door.
Producers on the show were bracing themselves for the worst as the set at Dunsfold Park was dismantled, apparently ending the smash hit show’s epic 13-year run on our screens.
Giant banner of the Stig and vintage cars are taken away
A source near the set outside Cranleigh, Surrey, said he was “devastated” to see the famous set in tatters — dubbing it “the end of an era”.
The famous studio set stands empty
The final three shows of the latest series were pulled from BBC2 schedules after Clarkson was suspended over his bust-up with producer Oisin Tymon.
Future of the show is now in doubt
Our exclusive pictures show an array of vintage motors being wheeled off the set and familiar props being taken apart and boxed up.
Clarkson’s “cool wall” - rating the loudmouth presenter’s favourite cars from seriously uncool to sub-zero - was also dismantled.
The familiar studio set my never be seen again
Removal men went to work on Tuesday - the day BEFORE Clarkson was officially axed by BBC boss Tony Hall yesterday.
Props including the Cool Wall were taken apart and packed away
Top Gear has been filmed at Dunsfold Park since 2002. It was moved from a small set at the park to a larger hangar around six years ago.
The show originally hit screens in 1977 but was relaunched in 2002 with Clarkson at the helm, joined by James May and Richard Hammond.

Our source said: “I’ve seen it being filmed over the years and the destruction was very sad.
“It really does mark the end of an era.
“Top Gear has filmed here as long as I’ve worked near the set.
Motors from the series
“We’re used to seeing Clarkson, Hammond and May knocking about and watching their escapades.
“They’re often out on the track and it’s going to be a real shame not to see them around.”
Sad day marks the end of an era
A spokesman for the Top Gear Experience, which is also held at Dunsfold Park, confirmed they would still be operating for the rest of the year, giving fans the chance to try out the track but their future was “unknown”.
Top Gear has been filmed here for 13 years
The future of Top Gear has been cast into doubt by the Clarkson fracas.
Tony Hall said the BBC was looking to “bring it back in good shape” next year and admitted BBC2 controller Kim Shillinglaw faced a big challenge to rescue it.
BBC is said to be seeking a revamped format with new presenters
It sparked speculation that the BBC is planning a totally revamped Top Gear with presenters and a different set and format.
Hammond and May look increasingly likely to desert the BBC after their friend was sacked.

Today James May hinted he might quit the show and become a teacher instead.
He said: “I might want to do something completely different with my life. I’m quite old now - something outside of cars. I always wanted to be a teacher.”
He added: “I always said that on the day it ends for me I’ll have to be magnanimous and look back and say, ‘well that was a stroke of luck, now back to normal life,, and that seems to have happened.
“We did it for 12 years. It’s a very big moment in our lives, but nothing was going to last forever. We always knew it wasn’t going to last forever. We just didn’t know how it was going to end.
“So here I go, I’m about to eat some beans and go back to my normal life.”
Hammond tweeted: “Gutted at such a sad end to an era. We’re all three of us idiots in our different ways but it’s been an incredible ride together.”

It was also claimed today executive producer Andy Wilman, who created the new Top Gear format with Clarkson in 2002, will also refuse to make any more episodes without the show’s star.
Model Jodie Kidd and DJ Chris Evans, who are both huge car fans, were tipped as the early favourites to replace Clarkson
