I don't know what it is about facebook, or more likely about me, but I've never had any inclination to join up. Not even for James. Sorry.

It's a public page, so you don't have to join FB in order to view it.

That's good then,as it means I can read what the guys have to say. My objection to Facebook in particular is the prevalent assumption that you don't exist if you're not on it. When I've said I'm not, I've many times been treated with anything from horror to (surprisingly) sympathy. I don't like to feel compelled to join anything (especially gyms!). I'm sure it's just me, but I can't help the way I feel about it!

The problem with it is they are using Facebook Mentions to post now, this posts across all platforms you use, Twitter etc at the same time. This means he appears to be on Twitter, tweeting, but isn't. Nor is he on FB, he's using the third party app, unless he's replying directly to someone on Twitter as that does need use of Twitter separately. This makes both things less interactive.

You can do the opposite and link your Twitter to your Facebook account, so that when you post to Twitter, it crossposts to Facebook, which I think is the more likely scenario, since May is a longtime Twitter user.

Yes, you've always been able to link your Twitter account to repost on FB, but that's not what they're doing, they're using Facebook Mentions which is an app only available to verified accounts. If you look at their FB posts it says 'Facebook Mentions' next to them. This app allows you to save time & post 'broadcast' comments to all your platforms, whether FB related or not, you choose which ones to apply it to, could be FB, Twitter & Instagram for e.g. You can manage your FB account from it directly, but if you want to reply to Tweets you need to do that within Twitter itself. It means that if he Tweets something that is a general 'broadcast' tweet & it appears on FB at the same time then he/ they are using the Facebook Mentions app & in order to reply to people on Twitter he/they need to go into Twitter separately. No doubt he will, but it means he doesn't need to be in Twitter to post a tweet unless it's an @ addressed tweet or reply.

Actually, I got on really well with the gym - until I developed knee problems and had to hand back my membership! I think the thing that started me worrying about facebook is when I heard that prospective employers (and thankfully that needn't bother me nowadays) may well look at your facebook page to find out more about you, but will consider it suspicious if they can't find a facebook account because you haven't got one. I just don't get why it's so important. If you want one, that's fine, I have no problem at all with that. I just don't think it it should be seen to be compulsory, or that I should be considered weird if I don't have one

Pah, they'll find out nothing about me on my FB cos it's set to friends-only. Anything I put on there isn't for everybody to see (nothing dodgy I should add just I don't want the whole world to see my ramblings/baby pictures/My Little Pony obsession!).

I like that James has now described himself as a Fictional Character
