I think this may have been an experiment about the way impacts are dispersed through different materials or something. I didn't see the programme, but I believe MG could clarify as I think he did the same experiment at Cheltenham. Melons as an analogue for heads or something like that.

He was dropping melons on to the floor you had to imagine they were your head!!! He can handle my melons any day!!!!

Oh yes he played with melons at Cheltenham and said it was safer to have an empty can of Stella taped to your head if you have an accident. It's all to do with the energy of the impact being taken into the can and you are safe ;D

Let me guess... the can acts like a "crumple zone", the energy ofthe impact being absorbed by the deformation of the can, while an impact's energy is transmitted straight through a solid object and into the melon, which will then go splat? I can just imagine Rich taping a can of Stella to his head, somehow Probably after drinking it, and a few of its mates...
