That was a really interesting article; thanks for the link.
"After university, he was a filing clerk at a hospital before working in a factory, assembling cardboard boxes."
My gawd, he's had dull jobs just like me! And I thought he was from a slightly posh background? Just an assumption from the way he speaks... Hammond had a pretty grim pre-Top Gear career too, going by that Virgin Radio interview today.

New Zealand? Jaaaames! No, mate. You've got to come here and go to our brewery (right, Eclair?).
I will be sorely disappointed if he goes to NZ and not AUS!

At Hay James said something in response to a question about going back to the US after THAT particular TG episode in the deep south, that he had no qualms going back to the US, but he couldn't go to Oz cos he had an outstanding speeding or parking fine or something like that. Not sure how tongue in cheek that was, he didn't say 'joke' afterwards. Please correct me fellow members of the Hay 5.

Maibee, your correct. The Hay 5, makes us sound like we're wanted for crimes to do with James. Crimes? No! Towards James? Never! Towards my own ego? Yes! Harmless fun? Yes! Over-indulgence on my part? Yes! Do I feel guilty? Yes! Should I have a cooling off period? Yes! Hence my self-enforced punishment of a sabbatical from the Telegraph posts. And possibly a life-time ban on booksignings. (Note the use of the word 'possibly', it is very important because I can rescind at ant time within the specified lifetime!) Why am I so harsh on myself? I'm told it's quite strict in the once-a-Catholic-always-a-Catholic heaven, because we expect it to be that way! *creeps off, head bowed, to do more penance*
