That would make sense, in one of his columns he talked about driving down to Devon to visit his parents. And I must say, if he has a place in Totnes, I'm very envious, as I've wanted to live there for years but can't afford it, though mum & dad live very near there so I pop through quite often! It's full of arty types with dodgy old Land Rovers and other characterful vehicles. And there are some very nice pubs, and shops that sell jumpers. It's a charmingly eccentric town

Cool. Keep your eyes peeled for a nice Rolls/Porsche/Panda etc. the next time you pass through

Actually, that's a very good point. I hope he takes the Panda, the bigger cars won't get down the high street and the Porsche would make entirely the wrong impression, even though his is an older one. Totnes is rubbish for driving, the fastest road is the A38 and that's horrible so it's just as well he's Captain Slow and everything else is bendy (which can be entertaining) but features mud to a greater or lesser extent. But it's one of the loveliest places I know! I will keep an eye out for stripy jumpers in the high street and report back if I spot anything!!!

He talks about going to Devon to visit parents there, and on his audible book interview he makes that comment and seeing as he hates the country, well lets see ......I love the rumour mill ;D will he stay at TG, hes gay etc, etc, oh well if he has, great

Done a bit of scouting around online and apparently he's been spotted an awful lot. In fact, one of my dad's mates thinks he spotted him last week... (see, having heard this, I just had to phone mum and dad!!!)

If you google "James May" (in quotes or you'll get all sorts of things) and Totnes you find stuff popping up in people's blogs and a few other bits and pieces. Most of it isn't much use, but when you sift through, you spot things like "That bloke from Top Gear was in town again..."! All little interesting snippets that back up the rumour rather effectively!

Hmmm... I wouldn't be surprised. His parents live down there, and you don't half get a nice pint...

If you think of how much he likes the big-city life, I wonder if it´s true. He might have been spotted there a lot, but couldn´t he just have been visiting his parents? Maybe they live in Totnes?
*off to have a look at Google Earth to see where this place is anyway*

It did surprise me; maybe the family connection plus the good beer was enough to outweigh the mud. Also, Totnes (if indeed that's where he is) isn't *that* rural. It's absolutely not what you'd call a city, but it is definitely a town - just a rather small one!!! I did once try to put my finger on the pulse of Totnes, but I couldn't find it...
If your English geography isn't too bad, I can give an idea of where in this green and pleasant it's located. It's about 24 miles from Plymouth (which is on the border of Devon and Cornwall) and about 6 miles from Paignton (which along with Torquay and Brixham forms the "English Riviera"). It's a bit rubbish to get to any of these places because the motorway stops at Exeter, but never mind!
And for people who like vintage clothes, the best shop ever is called "Revival" and is right in the middle of town, conveniently near to cash machines and a pub ;D Last time I shopped there I got a pair of nearly-new New Rocks for £40!

Plymouth, Devon, Cornwall, Paignton, Torquay, Brixham, Exeter.... Oops, I'm afraid that when I lived in England, I never got much further than Kent.

Gosh you come up with some finds Porsche! Well, that would make sense why he went all cold on the Aston Martin Vantage - he bought the house in Totnes instead... Mind you, if he keeps putting out books, DVDs, etc. and we keep buying them...he'll get the Vantage too.... ;D

Mind you, if he keeps putting out books, DVDs, etc. and we keep buying them...he'll get the Vantage too.... ;D So, thats the plan ladies. Operation 'Buy James a Vantage' begins here. Anybody who hasnt already purchased one of the books or dvds needs to do so now, it'll all in the name of the cause...
