Hey Linden, I like your new avatar When I first saw it, I thought that it was ET bouncing on a trampoline (I didn't see the tail!) . My eyes are very, very tired...

Hey Linden, I like your new avatar When I first saw it, I thought that it was ET bouncing on a trampoline (I didn't see the tail!) . My eyes are very, very tired... I saw it on FinalGear and absolutely adored it. I can watch for, well not houres but minutes. Very zen. The guy who used it said it was no problem if I used it here as he had nicked it from someone else before. ;D

Unpleasant character Best sentence of the column 'It's easy to make a basic beer at home, although, as with bus-driving and seduction, doing it well is another matter.' Fantastic or smashing Hes got it spot on!

I did think that with that bus-driving comment, we were going to get people harping back to this though.

Hmm, it was much easier to think of a witty reply with the caravanning columns. No mistake, I love it when he goes all techy like this, but I can not really only post the comment: "SQUEEEE!!!" ;D

Hey Dutch, I have been thinking. You guess this means that James has been in Holland filming for his new science series? And if so, why weren't we told?! More info about the Superbus

I think these are my favourite James columns, the popular science ones where he gets to talk about all sorts of things. They're the ones that make me think the most, in this case about Newton, the White Star Line's Olympic class and Colin Chapman, the founder of Lotus. I'm actually kind of surprised James didn't mention him, because one of his most quoted phrases was "add lightness". So I've done it for him

I saw yours, Dutch. I just posted mine. I had to pick on him alittle, but then again, I tend to pick on guys I like. I did ask him if he was going to the Duxford Airshow tomorrow, which I'd love to go to but can't make it to, because I've got to work all day. I really enjoyed this one. My husband would really love it, because he's got alot of interest in aircraft of all sorts. I'll have to show it to him this evening and see what he makes of it.

Interesting column. I don't trust airships I'm afraid but like the quip about the taxi. I wonder when the moderators are back from their holidays at the DT. Maybe it can all get back to what it's really about and people will return to commenting on the column.

Now that things are getting back to normal up there in Telegraph Towers, I just wanted to make a small point. I’m adding this two bob worth not as an employee of DT (‘cause I’m not) nor as a spokesthing of TMG nor any of its media tentacles. But, as some of you probably have already noticed, I like to read the motoring section (alas, now it’s the Lifestyle Section) of the DT and have done for quite a while, some years very closely…
The DT prides itself on censoring its opinion pieces and reader comments as little as possible. Shane Richmond’s blog on 29 May (nice haircut, Shane! ;D) sets out the paper’s position. That doesn’t mean that DT will print every comment it receives, but it won’t exclude them for the sake of suppressing contrary views.
However, one area where the DT will repress, or even remove comments, is when particular readers ignore or flaunt the rules for posting. Those rules, like the rules of any online community, are there to benefit all readers and contributors. You might not think the mods are hard at work, but I can recall two examples, just this year, when they’ve enforced the rules. The first was when James May was in America, and somebody (coincidentally named James, and writing in a somewhat Mayesque style – the cheek!) decided to say something nasty about the State of Oregon. That comment was removed, not because the DT is especially partial to Oregon, but because the poster appeared to be in breach of clause 4.3.2 of the Terms & Conditions for posting. Similarly, when a plethora of Maureens started posting, it appears the DT started screening all “Maureen” attributed posts, to try to only let our One True Maureen through. This apparently backfired when Maureen went on holiday, because the DT’s staff couldn’t spot the difference between False Maureens and Real Maureen on Holiday.
So clearly, impersonating other people is Not Allowed. But, pretending to be lots of people, all of them fictitious manifestations of yourself, is much more of a grey area. So long as you give a valid email address, the rules don’t prevent it. But I can see how, for the DT staff, this must be a complete pain in the arse. It might even become a bit “exasperating.” And, if a particular Telegraph reader started inventing new manifestations of herself, so that she could return to the fray and belittle another Telegraph reader, that might be seen to be a tiny bit unfair.
If you think a poster has been rude to you (or more pertinently, if they’ve breached clause 4.3.6.b of the Terms & Conditions for posting) then by all means report them to the Telegraph staff. There’s a report abuse button under every comment precisely for that purpose. That’s how you take “the higher ground” in these situations.
Finally I’m going to leave you with this (just a theory, I’m not saying it’s true): Exasperated Dave’s initials spell “ed.” Think about it.

Very good points, Luce. Personally, I would have thought that people would have better things to do with their time than create mulitple online personalities soley for the purpose replying to James' column. But alas, it appears it is not so. Personally, I find the whole thing a pain in the arse to read, as I have better things to do with my time. Mind you, the one time I tried to post a comment it was delcined, (or rather Eclair tried to post it for me - with my permission ) but that is because it was the ENTIRE 12 days of Top Gear Xmas and it look up about 2 pages LOL, so I wasn't really surprised it didn't make it up. With regards to "Exasperated Dave" we have plenty of exasperation around here at times too. At least the mods on the tele get paid to deal with all that, the admin on here just do it for the love... ;D So I guess, my lesson for today, if there is one, is; use your common sense, be nice to admin (they have feelings too!) be nice to each other and happy posting!

Thank you, Luce and Puss. Also, if someone bullies or abuses you or you find a comment offencive, there's a link under each person's posting ("Report this Comment to Daily Telegraph" I think) where you can click on the offender and report them in an email to DT and tell them why it's offensive. They do have rules in their clause about bullying and aggressive behaviour too.

Thanks for your posting Lucy. I think it's good to realize that somewhere there is some poor moderator who has to read through all our ramblings. Mojo, Lucy already mentioned the abuse button. I hope people will start using it instead of posting their complaints as new comments.

I want to know what provocotive photo this was and when we all get exposed to a copy. No doubt it'll pop up on HH before too long! Me too...I'm thinking it may not be as provocative as the OP wanted us to think, though
