I liked the bit about the boy asking when he was planning to blow it up! Had me in stitches that part! Its so true- we would all have asked! And I like how the caravan is endearing itself to him. Even to his chaffing buttocks! I've left him a comment about the poetry though...

no comments are yet showing... how long does it usually take? Most Fridays, they will put up the first few comments before they leave for the weekend, when nothing happens. The rest of the comments are then put up on Monday and onwards.

Surely Fabienne Payette sounds French, so more Wallon than Flemish, if that were the case! Furthermore, WCH's English seems to be faultless, whereas this Fabienne exhibited a few, albeit minor, errors. Still can't my head round him actually staying in this caravan, let alone travelling in it. What are all these train station sightings? Still I guess all will be revealed in due course so I give up! Thank God I have this summer job or I'd be letting my mind wander more than is good for my sanity! ;D

I put mine up. I loved his Omar quote. That was beautiful. I'm also glad that some of the commenters didn't put him off talking about it. I was really hoping to hear more about his camping too, so I'm very happy. I also thought the kid was funny too.

Yes I am fabienne payet. And my father is French from Madagascar actually so my name is not Walloon. As for "minor" errors in my writing I am well aware of it and noticed it after a quick posting at work where I had very little time to review my writing. I am sure that if James reads it he will not be offended by it. Thank you XJ.

That's ok just a word of caution as belgium is a nutter country never suppose someone is a walloon in Flanders that is an insult! But nobody knew and errors are human so nobody need to worry that they upset me.
Thank you Lew and I hope he'll read it...
Yep dutch I know sometimes it ain't easy!

forgetting, even after just a few seconds, that the thing is there at all, and then looking in the mirror and being horrified at how close the bloke behind is driving.

Wildcat, I re-read the column and the comments. I really loved yours. It made me think of how much I love nature too. It was very beautiful and I think James will appreciate it too. Very well done. I added a quote from Henry David Thoreau in my post as well when I wrote it yesterday, so all will see it if DT posts it on Monday. I think it's really nice that he donated some of his extra stuff to people in need. He really does have a kind, generous heart and giving spirit. He also mentioned the bear necessaties of the kitchen. He left out the other bear necessities, but I think they're understood. I'm sure someone else will mention them later on .

Just an addendum to all the comments above, including my own - and since I have given myself a hard time about it all night, even waking up in the middle of the night with it being my first thought then and this morning - just in case anyone has got the wrong end of the stick! I actually said that WCH's English is faultless and only mentioned the 'minor errors' as evidence to my presumption that they were not the same person! I could have deleted my comment once I knew I was wrong (before anyone quoted me) but noticed WCH was online after I made the comment, so decided that if I was wrong I should not hide my error but face the consequences! Anyone who has chatted to me knows how I value multilingualism and in how much high esteem I hold the English of our many non-native speakers (Dutch, Linden, Nougat, Gre8tdane and WCH, amongst others), and I wouldn't dare criticize them - and in fact there is nothing to criticise. And also they will know how full of faults my own English is, especially when I rush (witness the large number of edits in my own posts!). Apart from English I have a reasonable level of French (and a smattering of a couple of other languages), though I wouldn't have the courage of our members mentioned above to post on a French-language forum. As I said, I agonised about this and PMd XJ as WCH's friend and following her comments that I was being paranoid (again ! ) I PMd the person concerned to privately manifest my regret if I had unwittingly offended her by indirectly criticising her English and, more to the point, if I had hit a nerve with the Belgian comment calling myself 'crass' - I was not ignorant of the implications as I listen and read the French-language media, including listening occasionally to the RTBF La Premiere (French-language Belgian) radio station. Sorry to bring this up again this morning, had they been two separate people the comment would have gone unnoticed. Right now I feel a complete idiot, but hope this goes some way to underlining where I was coming from! Oh and a word of warning - don't drink and post comments, alcohol can seriously impair your selective processes! ;D

Thanks WCH! Enough said! And lucky you, and when you say speak, I bet you mean speak well/fluently - unlike most of us Brits with our schoolgirl languages! I wish I learnt more languages when I was young - but that's a long story! (I know enough Spanish to get by plus the same in colloquial Arabic - very useful, especially knowing the alphabet, in my profession! Oh and can read most of the letters in the Cyrillic alphabet, though need practice. Plus know the IPA and Pitmans shorthand - as you can see I love languages/language systems and symbols!)
