I cannot stop listening to this song at all tonight. About Wisconsin and has a ton of Star Wars references.

Can't get this on youtube yet - it's from Elbow's new album. I love the words - they express so well that distance is no boundary to the love we feel for our friends. The song's lovely too.
Dear friends You are angels and drunks You are Magi Old friends You stuck a pin in the map I was in And this is a note from the roadside
Cutting the breeze of this Tennessee sundown Came the sound of the voices I know I've been pondering trees On the steeliest come-down And now in the moment I'm home I've got bluster enough For the sails of a clipper And the truth never frays a good yarn But it struck me to say While so far away You were with me today You are here in my head, In my heart
Dear friends You are angels and drunks You are magi Old friends You stuck a pin in the map I was in And you are the stars I navigate home by

Me again. Here's a piece of pure romance. Some of you will think of James I suspect: it is very apposite. But I think of Mr Crumbs - even though he drives me up the bl**dy wall sometimes! www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF1yQMPMEMo

It's a long time since I heard (or played) that! I love Debussy, both to listen to and to play, as it is playable, unlike some other composers, who you've got to be concert-standard to master.
I wish I could get at my piano; at the moment it's at the back of my (overful) boxroom, which is my project-in-waiting. One day......

Debussy is one of my favorites. Clair de Lune never fails to make me shed a tear.

Having never consciously listened to any Elbow, but having noted how people rave about them on here, today I bought The Seldom Seen Kid at the supermarket.
Boy, have I been missing out! Wow, what music! And the words, the words......
(from different songs)
The violets explode inside me when I meet your eyes
We kissed like we invented it
And the things that she's asked me to do would see a senior saint forgetting his name
I have got to investigate this band!

Being a big fan, I have all their albums and my favourites are Leaders of the Free World and the one you've just bought. The latest waxing (Build a Rocket Boys) is also very good. In truth, only the first album is a bit weaker.

I'm reliving my youth and listening to an 80's compilation. Not really the best decade for music but it was ok. Truth be told I am a soul girl :-)

A couple of weeks ago I discovered Amy MacDonald when I heard one of her songs used in a youtube video. I ordered her first CD and I enjoyed it so much that I ordered the second CD which I just got a few days ago. I'm quite enjoying it.

Enjoyed Elbow on Jools, and wished there'd been so much more.
I've got a massively complicated Hi-Fi system (including a valve amp!) that I haven't used for over two years, and for the first time I want to find out if it's still working and buy some more Elbow CDs!

Michael Monroe "78" www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0R68LBeQ3UI have loooooved him ever since I was 16 and he still looks the same as he did way back in 1980 when I first saw him with Hanoi Rocks. He just does not age at all... And this new band is a supergroup, no doubt. Nearly fainted when I heard Ginger (Wildheart) would be in the band. And I am definitely a rock'n'roll girl.. with a twist ;D

I bump into Michael (figuratively speaking, of course) all the time: grocery shopping, at cat shows, wherever. Once hubby and I passed him and a lady friend by when we were taking a stroll by the river one Sunday a couple of springs ago. This was near where we live, not in the city center, and I was shocked to see Michael Monroe taking a casual stroll in the countryside just like any other town resident - albeit he wasn't wearing a shell suit and a pair of sneakers like we were but a white shirt and gray pants. I mean, you've got to admit that Michael Monroe walking down an old gravel road is not the place you'd expect to come across him. He's got that big city aura about him, don't you think? Currently listening to the Norman Cook remix of Cornershop's Brimful of Asha. Once again I'm making delightful musical trips into the treasure box that is called Spotify.

Yes, Michael likes to live outside the centre 'cause he often works at night and does not want to bother neighbours (he used to live in a middle of nowhere first when he moved back to Finland from New York but had to move due to mold). I have seen him and his wife a couple of times when I've visited Turku. But I prefer seeing him on stage with the band, though. Now listening to Jefferson Airplane - Plastic Fantastic Lover

Now listening to Jefferson Airplane - Plastic Fantastic Lover Gawd, that's a track I haven't heard in about a million years! Surrealistic Pillow was a brilliant album, and PFL was one of the best tracks. So I had to listen to it on YouTube, and that took me sideways to Marty Balin's album "Balin" and the beautiful track "Hearts". If you've not heard it, give it a shot; it's gorgeous (and sad). www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSZITC4tEes

If you've not heard it, give it a shot; it's gorgeous (and sad). www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSZITC4tEesI just bought a Jefferson Airplane box set a couple of years ago cause the old vinyls were a bit.. well, in a bad condition. As for Marty Balin, I really love his voice and the lyrics are great and beautiful, but cannot say I particularly like the background of that song - which annoys me, since everything else is good.. Just had to go back to David Sylvian. He is simply a genius and that voice of his is out of this world. Takes my breath away every time. Especially this, "Orpheus". Just absolutely love the lyrics: Standing firm on this stony ground The wind blows hard Pulls these clothes around I harbour all the same worries as most The temptations to leave or to give up the ghost I wrestle with an outlook on life That shifts between darkness and shadowy light I struggle with words for fear that they'll hear But Orpheus sleeps on his back still dead to the world Sunlight falls, my wings open wide There's a beauty here I cannot deny And bottles that tumble and crash on the stairs Are just so many people I knew never cared Down below on the wreck of the ship Are a stronghold of pleasures I couldn't regret But the baggage is swallowed up by the tide As Orpheus keeps to his promise and stays by my side Tell me, I've still a lot to learn Understand, these fires never stop Believe me, when this joke is tired of laughing I will hear the promise of my Orpheus sing Sleepers sleep as we row the boat Just you, the weather, and I gave up hope But all of the hurdles that fell in our laps Were fuel for the fire and straw for our backs Still the voices have stories to tell Of the power struggles in heaven and hell But we feel secure against such mighty dreams As Orpheus sings of the promise tomorrow may bring www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OSPGxVwmVY
