Beeb are verygood at copyprotecting their stuff. Try a piece of software that lest you convert from .swf to .wmv or .avi.

Beeb are verygood at copyprotecting their stuff. Try a piece of software that lest you convert from .swf to .wmv or .avi. Tried that. There is a file which is downloaded but it's in 2 parts. I'm guessing that clip will be on YouTube under the BBC's own umbrella because there will be so much on about the moon landings. Or it'll be part of a package somewhere.

I've looked into the Beeb's media player and remember how it used to be either Realplayer or Windows Media Player you had to select to watch things? Well this was ther reason why it was easy to download and keep videos. Now the BBC has developed their own encrypted and flash run media player which is embedded into the page. If you look at the video at full screen, it shows that the video clip is actually a video player rather than the video clip inside of a player, like youtube. This appears to be why it's unavailable to copy. The video is possible to view using the proxy IP, but to keep, well - it looks like waiting for it to appear on YouTube or recording it from the TV when the adverts start to appear. Either way it'll still be in the programme. In short, I looked, I tried, I didn't conquer. Buggeration. But you can understand the Beeb wanting to look after their stuff, this is just watermarking in a slightly more intensive way.

Thanks for trying. I have actually managed to download a single swf-file, but that's only about 290kb, so not the clip, but probably just the screenshot I get when I try to play it. (It says something like it is not possible to play.) I'm mighty glad I figured out an easy way to switch to a British proxy server. Apart from watching the Moon clip a hunderd times, I have also been watching all the forbidden TopGear.com clips again. ;D

I got that file and a META file and they have to work together in some way. I also got that message. I suspect it's the way it's encrypted and then embedded from the main input file in their system.
It's too good not to put on YouTube and I guess the BBC will do that in time.

Yup, I think we'll have to admit defeat on this one! Been tinkering around for the best part of two hours to try to get it downloaded and converted, but no luck . I did, however, come across this: www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/28733Which may be of some use for things you want off the iplayer. If you're a Mac user, that is, and in the UK! Seems to work alright.

If it's still the BBC trailer we're talking about, I've managed to capture the video but not the audio. I'll keep working on it.

How did you do that?

I used a piece of software that captures the screen output rather than the source file, but for some reason it didn't capture the sound. It's supposed to, so I'll have to do a bit of fiddling and see if I can fix that.

Tweaked and uploading. I'm afraid I've only managed to do it in .mpg format, but VLC can handle that no problem at all. If you can't play it, download VLC, because I can't be arsed to convert it (and I can't find the converter that doesn't leave a sodding great watermark in the middle of everything). Fingers crossed...Right click and 'save target as' in Explorer/ 'save link as' in Firefox.

I tried uploading to YouTube, but video and audio, so neatly brought together by Wyvern, were torn apart straight away. At least we have now all been able to see it. Only 45 more days until we can see the rest. Edit: managed to upload, see my later post!
