I have my next three planned. I'm getting a purple rose on the left thigh to match my snowdrop. Then a boosh face and a tin of spam on my lower back

I had to wait until I was 18 to get my ears pierced at all, all my friends had theirs done when we were 13/14, so I know the feeling, but it doesn't really change very much at the end of the day! I've never thought of anything I'm likely to like for long enough to have a tat done!

Haha ;D I am still vacillating as to the nature and location of a hypothetical tattoo. Wrist of foot seems most likely at the moment. As for piercings - well they're an addiction. If I hadn't just spent a lot of money I'd certainly get more. I've got a labret, nipple and industrial and love them all. This is what an industrial looks like for those of you that don't know:

I've only one tattoo... a fairly large chinese dragon on my left shoulder. I did have my nose pierced, but sadly both tattoos and piercings have now been 'cheapened' by the chavs, and have become mainstream, so I wouldn't even consider any more

After seeing the guy with the lego James tattoo and talking about tattoos a bit I finally got around to photographing (with my hubby's help) scaling and uploading my tattoos. I'll post them here with with (briefly) the story behind each. So I warn you this is going to be a long post because I have 17 tattoos, 16 of which I am posting here. (1 of them needs touch up because it isn't looking that good right now so I'll post that one later.) I'm going to try to post them in the order I got them but I have kind of forgotten the exact order. This is the first tattoo that I ever got. I got it when I was 25. It is Alice Cooper's autograph. I have always loved his music and he has been a bit of an idol of mine. If anyone would like to hear the story of how Alice Cooper got me and my mom talking again after 5 or so years of being estranged PM me and I'll tell you. I had a dream where I had tattoos on the insides of my wrist. One was a dragon and one was a scorpion. I thought the idea was cool but I knew I couldn't get the detail I wanted and keep them the size I wanted. But I still wanted to have tattoos on my wrists so I decided on a Diane Moon Goddess (the Goddess holding the moon in its three phases) on my left wrist: and the Celtic stag God Cernunnos and an Oak leaf on my right wrist: But, I still really liked the idea of a scorpion and a dragon, which are my two zodiacs. The western zodiac and the Chinese zodiac. So I got a scorpion with the scorpio symbol on my left leg: and a dragon with the Chinese character for dragon on my right leg: My birth mother and I have never gotten along. Our relationship was so bad when I was growing up that I was "adopted" by my friend's aunt. I call her "mom" and she refers to me as "her other daughter". We decided we wanted to get mother / daughter tattoos. I got this knot work on my left hip, as did she. Mine is (obviously) blue with purple at the center and hers is purple with blue at the center. I was also very close with my adoptive mom's mom. The night I heard she died I cried myself to sleep. As I was in the state where you are just between waking and sleeping I had a dream/vision of the eternity symbol floating in a night sky. I then heard a voice say "she has gone into eternity". When I woke up the next day I knew that I wanted to get the symbol as a tribute to her. I had been trying to figure out a way to do a tattoo of a pentagram and also a Darwin fish. Both of which were tattoos that my "grandmother" had. This is the tattoo that the tattoo artist helped me design. As you can see, it is on my back below my neck. The Darwin fish and the pentagram symbolize a balance between science and religion. The cauldron was my "grandmother's" sigil and the star rising from it is my adoptive mother's sigil. Combined together they make up the symbol of the church that I was ordained in. The rose is for my biological grandmother. It was her favorite flower. (Also, my adoptive grandmother's name was Rosemary.) By adding that in the tattoo had something to represent the strong women who had a positive influence in my life. My next tattoo is my butterfly and vine tattoo. Up to that point my tattoos had been somewhat masculine and I wanted something pretty and feminine and I wanted it along the arch of my left foot. (Yes that did hurt a bit more than some of my other tattoos.) Additionally, it stands for two of the four elements. The vine stands for earth and the butterfly stands for air. Here are two pictures so that you can see how the vine "wraps" around my toe. I used to weight 264lbs. I had gastric bypass surgery and lost a lot of weight. When I got down to 160lbs I got myself my Aerosmith tattoo as a gift to myself. Aerosmith had always inspired me and kept me going through the tough times! The tattoo is on my right ankle. The runes above the circular part of the logo spell "amazing" and the runes around the bottom of the logo spell "self". Growing up I was very very close to my mom mom. (My mom's mom.) She was always there for me and I took her death very hard. She died on the 16th of December 1989 and my life was never the same after that. Growing up, she used to read me a story about a little duck who has adventures. The story was called "Quack! Said Jerusha". On the 16th anniversary of my mom mom's death on the 16th of December I went and had Jerusha tattooed on my right leg. It really did help me to let go and remember that she is always with me. After honoring my mom mom with a tattoo I decided I really wanted to honor my pop pop with a tattoo as well. He and I were also quite close. I got this one on the left leg opposite Jerusha. My pop pop and I used to play dominoes together and the dragon is the picture that was carved into the back of the dominoes. The shield that says "Able Battery" is the shield of the unit (I guess that is what it is called) that he fought in in WWII. Just about the only member of my father's side of the family that I am close with is my Aunt Kate. When I was a teenager she and I used to hang out and watch Fred Astaire movies together. She now lives in TX and she was visiting one year and I had an appointment to get some touch up work done on a tattoo. (At that point my aunt was in her late 60's.) She asked a lot of questions about how tattooing was done so I invited her to come with me. She did and enjoyed watching. We talked about tattoos some more and she said that she would maybe get one if she knew what to get. I said "What about a Top Hat? You know, for Fred?" She thought that was a good idea and I offered to pay to get it for her. I even told her I would get it too. She said that if she ever visited PA again she would do it. She said that never expecting to visit PA again. Well, her kids surprised her a few years later with a trip to PA. I jokingly mentioned the tattoo to her and she said she wanted to do it. So for her 72nd birthday I took her for her first tattoo. Her's is on her right shoulder and mine is on my left. She really enjoys showing it off to people. At one point my husband and I were discussing tattoos and I said "wouldn't it be really cool to have a tattoo on the palm of your hand?!" He said that he thought it would. (My husband really isn't in to tattoos.) I thought about it and thought it would be cool and that I wanted to do it. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted but it finally occurred to me. I had been thinking about getting a hamsa tattoo somewhere. (The hamsa is sometimes called the evil eye. It is a drawing of a hand with an eye in it. If you are interested in the meaning PM me.) So, why not just turn my hand into the hamsa? So I got the tattoo on my right hand. Stupid idea!!!! Not because I don't love the tattoo. But because it was the most painful thing I have ever done. And I had to have it done twice due to fading - tattoos on the hands don't take well. I should have it touched up again but I'm not going to. Hind sight being what it is this is the only tattoo that I would go back and tell myself not to get. I was going to get a celtic crescent moon on the other hand but that isn't going to happen. I decided I wanted to balance out the butterfly on my left foot with the other two elements on my right foot. The dragonfly stands for the element fire and the lily pads and the water stand for water. I loved my celtic knot work tattoo on my hip but no one can see it unless I wear a swim suit. I decided I wanted more celtic knot work. It took forever but I finally found the knot work design that I wanted. There is a great band called Rathkeltair. They are a celtic rock band and they have a great song called dragonfly. I always found the lyrics to the song inspiring and the refrain goes "And I look down on my knee, and there's a dragonfly staring up at me..." One day after hearing that line I thought "What a great tattoo idea." So, here it is on my left knee: The other tattoo that I have is a celtic triangle. It is small and is behind my left ear. I'll post a picture of it after I get it touched up. Thanks for reading my insanely long post!

Aero, your tats are cool.I love the idea of cronicaling(?) your body with memories and events. Its a beautiful thing to do.I don't have any tats because I have a disliking of pain but I have toyed with the idea of having my hubbys name and my daughters names somewhere discreet. By the way the eye in the palm of your hand my of hurt but it looks wicked.

Wow aeromanda!!! Extraordinarily awesome!!! My hubby talked me out of tatts when I wanted to get one. But I still wanna get a little Tinker Bell on my lower abdomen, which I think I'm gonna get by the end of the year. I'd really like to get James' signature tattoed down there too, but that's never gonna happen....lol.

Thanks antonia. I'm not "into" pain either. But I have so much of it (physically) that I'm pretty used to it and, comparatively, tattoos don't really hurt that much. Thanks for the compliment on my eye. What you said is very true. It hurt a lot but I really like it and it is very unique. I'm not the type of person who gets tattoos for attention but it is still fun when people stop and say "Um, is that a tattoo on your hand?" or "Is that a real tattoo on your hand?" Most people think it is cool.
Snowsunflower, if you decide to "take the plunge" and get the tattoo and if you don't know where you want to go to get it done just let me know. All of my tattoos with the exception of the Alice autograph and the eternity symbol were done by the same guy. He is very talented and I trust him very much. (I wouldn't refer him if I didn't.) He is located in Frazer. His prices are very reasonable as well. I would be more than happy to go with you or give you his info. if you want.

Like mentioned elsewhere as well: I want a tat that includes Lost, Prison Break and Top Gear. I think it would be nice to attach them to my LotR tat, so that it becomes one big tattoo, from my shoulder-back to my low back.. Oh and with Dexter of course!!

Very cool! I'd love it if you went with me! It would be comforting not being alone while a tat artist is working on my groin.

This is my latest tattoo. I love cats, and when I separated from my husband, I had to leave my cat Merlin behind. I still miss him (although I did get to see him on Good Friday \o/ ) and I suppose the tat reminds me of him and all the other cats I've had and loved over the years

Here's a pick of the tattoo that I didn't want to post until I got it touched up. I had it touched up yesterday and it looks much better than it did before. (It had faded unevenly.) It is behind my left ear.
