I am watching this again now, and James is stealing my heart all over again because he's just so enthusiastic and he's so animated by his passion for the subject. Nothing is more appealing than someone presenting a subject they really love. I must also add that I agree entirely about the 'dumbing down' of Meccano and Lego. We didn't have all this specialised nonsense in my day

Woo! I'm watching it now on BBC2. I think I'm growing more attached to him. The way he says " My mum will call me for tea in a minute *high pitched voice* Ja-ames"
Love it!

I love this. It always brings back such great memories from my childhood too. The cars, war pictures from Airfix, and trainset were some of my favourite things. I love how he gets into this and his experiments and target practice with some of the toys. Anytime I'm feeling too grown up for my own good, I've got to watch this and the sister one.

I absolutely loved it It was my first time. James looks so sweet when he was a young boy. Didn't like when women friends of his saying that the men are like a bunch of seven year olds Loving his love of toys.

That bit he says at the end about its the adults who wants the toys is so right! My mum got me this remote controlled car as a "joke" for xmas, and well the batteries are flat, i smashed it into a wall and the body work is trashed and thinking about getting another one! I refuse to grow up

Husband laughed and agreed when James said, "Just get us anything that says from ages 7 to 12 on the side." That was classic.

I loved my mother's trainset when we'd visit my grand parents. What I liked was you could put water in the engine compartment and it would blow steam while it went around the track, once the water got hot enough to boil. That and the headlamp on it were so cool, if the light was low. I wonder if James brought out his trainset this Christmas? That would be loads of fun. He's talked about it before in one of his old articles a few years ago. I was like, "YES!"

At this third attempt I finally managed to record it. I busted it twice, once setting it at the wrong channel and the second time it stopped too early. Yesterday I even went home early because I wanted to be home in time to check whether or not my recorder would start.
I have now made a brilliant dvd with both episodes. I only have to make a nice cover and I'm all set. ;D
