Motoring news and views. Jeremy Clarkson gets chased by the British Army in some of their latest and most deadly toys. Meanwhile, Richard Hammond and James May compare the new Porsche Panamera against a small envelope, a 39p stamp and the logistical might of the Royal Mail in a race from one end of the British Isles to the other. Plus, Olympic gold medal winning sprinter Usain Bolt is the star in the Reasonably Priced Car.

That first part, the Army and their toys, could that be something to do with what he mentioned in that RAF interview?

Hmmm... just a seven for me tonight, excellent Jeremy episode, but the rest was a little flat. Letter challenge wasn't up to much, it ended a bit lamely. Loved the Evo challenge, but he's already done this on 'Thriller'. Sorry!

I think what a lot of viewers of TG don't realise is just how much they champion the services of this country. Just how impressive are the Royal Mail and the Army? I was more amazed by just how quick most letters can make it and how they do that, and just what our army vehicles can do. Forget the cars. Anyway. A good episode. Very entertaining. I liked that Jeremy got his "A fat man is harder to kidnap" line in, and the challenge was brilliant. One thing boys - It's the Isles of Scilly not the Scilly Isles. From what I can remember, that will really piss them off. I am thinking of renting the Zanzibar Cottage - it looks just about right for me at the mo. Richard - get a hair cut. And lose the David Essex look.

I thought Richie was looking mighty fine! (I have a bit of a thing for Mr Essex, shhh) and the episode was brilliant. I loved it. How cute is James when he sneezes? And Richard stuffing his face to the amazement and almost disgust of James was hilarious. Jeremy was looking hot! As ever. and when the Army picked him up in that tank with the metal teeth, I almost cried!! I did actually shout at the telly, 'Put him down you gits!'

Great stuff. The last couple of weeks have been episodes on a slightly less grand scale, and they've been no less inventive for it. If this is the effect of the credit crunch on Top Gear, then fair enough - over the last couple of series, they've been spoiled for choice, and they've had the budget to do whatever they wanted. I absolutely loved the showdown between the Focus RS and the Renault and Jeremy and Richard seemed to really enjoy it. I agree absolutely with Jeremy about the looks of the Panamera, but it was good to see it on the road, and the challenge was an excellent idea. And how good was Usain Bolt?
The bit with the army was a bit daft, but fun - and I'm glad there was a sound reason for killing the Evo, because it was a fine car.
I have to agree with Ly though - the boys do a great job of championing the services of this country when nobody else bothers. Even if Richard did look like he's going to start a Francis Rossi tribute act this week.

Wy - Richard as Francis Rossi - HELL YEAH!! *is giddy* That race at the beginning, it reminded me of the start of 'new' Top Gear, they used to have races like that on a regular basis, it felt like it was going back to the 'olden' days. Katherine - Yes!!

I'm all for TG championing the country's services too. I have alot of respect and good experiences with the Royal Mail. They're very efficient, which makes me very happy when I order something. Once they hit northern Scotland, I had quite a few flashbacks of driving that road. It was lovely. They got lucky that day. The fog wasn't as thick as it could've been.

I think for me this has been the worst ep of the series. I am amazed with how fast the royal mail gets letters from A-B at that cost but the race just did not seem that exciting. Never heard of British bull dog had to google it but even that did not excite me.

This series is reminding me a lot of earlier 'new' Top Gear - I think it's because the credit crunch has reined them in a bit and they can't do the big, crazy stuff all the time. I'm glad of this - outrageous spectacle every week would get 'samey' and people were complaining a lot that it was too silly and far too set up, but having more of a balance should help the audience appreciate the bigger stuff when it happens ;D

Could the army crush the drug dealers and leave the cars alone. The rate things are going Richard or James is going to have to cut there hair so they can still sit together for the news bit.

I gave it an 8 this week. The first segment was good, the news was boring, the race was pretty cool, and Bolt was cool. However, I didn't care for the Army segment.
