For those who voted......thank you now no one knows what you voted, so don't be shy, shall I get the pom poms out..... for about 80 odd members who are on here we're missing a lot. So I'm wondering if it's worth it, thoughts please, otherwise I'll not waste my time or anyone else who starts these threads.

Just watched it again still good but i think i should have given it a 9 instead of a 10 and save the 10s for episodes like the Vietnam one.

Greetings Haven't been on for ages for loads of reasons - mainly not good but things are looking up! Anyway, I enjoyed this episode lots. What really struck me (and I'm sorry if this has been covered before but I haven't had time to catch up) was how jolly Richard was. It seemed to me that he was properly properly better physically and mentally (it can take eons of time to get over head injuries I believe). He looked sparky and made me laugh lots - as they all did of course.

After much thought, I gave it a 9. It would have been a 10, but the news was horrible. I usually love the news, but it seemed forced. The race was fabulous, as was the Lotus review. The Stig "reveal" was awesome, and although I don't follow F1, Michael Schumacher was a good sport.

Something has just occured to me. When Richard was at the petrol station, he was talking on his phone to James, I think, and a voice came over the PA system asking him not to talk on his phone. Anyone have any idea why that would be? I know you are not allowed to use them in hospitals and stuff, but why not at a petrol station?

Some people think that cell phones could spark fires to petrol fumes. It hasn't really been proven but most stations have signage up about phone use. urbanlegends.about.com/library/weekly/aa062399.htm

Because they are a fire risk (allegedly), something to do with the signaligniting the fumes Used to work in a filling station and it was one of the 'rules'.

It's a shame Brainiac was made for Sky, not BBC - Richard tested the mobile phone petrol explosion theory by attempting to blow up a petrol-soaked caravan with a mobile and failed. So he tried with lots of mobiles - and failed. But then he proved that you can blow up a petrol-soaked caravan using the build-up of static in a pair of nylon trousers. It's a pity he couldn't have turned around and explained that he'd 'scientifically' proved that trousers were more dangerous than phones on a petrol station forecourt

YES! I got to see this last night. I really enjoyed it alot. I was happy to see James win, but boy was Jeremy gorgeous, especially with the soot around his eyes making it look like he had on eye liner.

Jeremy was gorgeous. One of the best bits for me was when he declared "I'm doing this to beat a car, why? Why am I doing this?" but he was really going for it. And when he mentioned his old girlfriends house. I laughed a lot at that part.

My favourite bit was "Make millions of coal go in there!" I'm afraid I did snort at that part ;D

What I can't get over is just how quickly the coal burns away! And what poor sod has to clear out all the ashes!? (and the bits of bacon)

What I can't get over is just how quickly the coal burns away! And what poor sod has to clear out all the ashes!? (and the bits of bacon) Back in ye olden days, the railways would employ boys straight out of school to clean the locos, and they would then become firemen, and then drivers, as they got older. Most of the ashes would be dropped out of the bottom of the firebox once the train had got back to the shed, and then the next morning (very very early!) the cleaners would come in and make everything all shiny again

Aww, that's a lovely story!! Thank you for that. *goes all railway Children with Jeremy* Do you happen to know what they did with the ashes? Did they bury them in the ground or something? They must have disposed of them somehow. I have only got a coal fire to heat my house, what I do it put mine in the bin and then they eventually end up on landfill. Can't imagine that's what happened back then though!

No idea. They would have gone into the ashpit at the depot (or by the side of the line in an emergency) but I have no clue as to what would have been done with them after that.

Upon watching this episode again, regarding to guy on the loud speaker about the mobile phone. Richard ignores & continues to speak to Jeremy. Keep looking behind Rich you see the guy come out wearing a tie heading towards Richard to tell him off lol

Yes I noticed that when I saw the episode again. Not good. Poor Richard, as if he didn't have enough to worry about.
