I was looking around to see if there were any reviews of the programme and could only find one, in the Guardian.
Never mind, James, whoever wrote it obviously just doesn't 'get' your raison d'etre/humour/whimsy.
'In James May's Man Lab (BBC2), James and various other men make a pool table and chase each other across Dartmoor. Lots of fun I imagine. For them.'

How many haircuts did he have in that one episode?
That'll teach him to cut it short just before he starts filming....or ever

Interesting tweet from someone employed at the BBC (though obviously needs verifying by BARB)
'The delightful James May and his Man Lab got 2.4m on BBC2 last night, making it the second highest programme at 8pm after Holby on BBC1'

Must admit, I did squee at the bit with Honister Pass and the slate mine. I drove through there!! I enjoyed it, but not as much as the first series, to be honest. I'm sure it'll grow on me, though. I just need to watch it again to fully appreciate it (when I'm not so tired ). I found the same thing happened with the first series: the more I watched it, the funnier it got. Laurrra, I'm with you on the curtain shirt. I think it suits him.

Sorry, don't like the specs and would like to shoot the person who keeps telling him to cut his hair shorter. Have no opinion on the shirt, except he needs to unbutton a couple more buttons.

First of all, I want that pool table SO MUCH. That is freaking gorgeous. I don't care if it takes up my entire living room, I've always got something alcoholic in the house so we'd always think we'd be brilliant at pool. (question for those in the UK-were those the usual colors for pool balls? We've got the 8-ball, but the rest of the balls are multi-colored, but half the balls are a solid color and the other half have a colored stripe) Thought it was great, thought the pacing was better than the first episode of last season(which really went all over the place), liked all the segments, and I think I really liked watching James learn how to draw. I think I always enjoy seeing someone else learn to appreciate creating art, especially after they spent so long thinking they were utter crap at it. Great episode, can't wait to see the rest of the series. I'm particularly looking forward to the Christmas one, even though I already know how to cook a turkey.

I found the same thing happened with the first series: the more I watched it, the funnier it got. I love James but I have to admit that I didn't exactly find last night's episode riveting either and I feel really guilty about it because certainly on Twit it is getting good reviews. If it's supposed to enable men to become less feeble, then it failed. The tracker chap could have been straight from a comedy sketch and James and Oz were their usual endearing but bumbling selves in the Dartmoor bit. I was impressed with Rory remembering half of those names, as I'm useless at that. The pool table section was pure big boy's indulgence. I liked the sketching part - James really improved his drawing, so a result there. I'll go hide now to dodge the flak!

Has anybody had the opportunity to go thru the tweets? I don't have it because it brings my hard drive down. Yes, I went through the lot last night (I'm a very fast reader!) and they were actually repetitive and rather disappointing in the sense that they tended to just be variations on "This programme was good/brilliant". I would say that around 70/80% were in favour of the programme and/or James, with the remainder tending towards rudeness about James on a personal level - nothing new there, it always surprises me how some people, mainly men, can be so unpleasant! I usually save particularly witty or amusing tweets but there was only one that I bothered with that was directly about the programme itself, out of over 300 : 'Man Lab. Brilliant daft. Brilliantly .... well, just brilliant. Only James May could break out of HMP Dartmoor and find a pork pie .....'(btw, I'm not actually on twitter as I don't 'do' social networking sites, but I have feeds on the internet that give me access)

I finally got the chance to watch this over lunch today. I rooted for James, yelled at Oz, rolled my eyes at the tracker guy, spit soda because of Rory and laughed out loud several times! ;D ;D The pacing was much better than last season's. The pool table was gorgeous. Makes me want to get MOH to put his table together. It's in storage. When Oz and James almost got caught by the tracking group and hid under that little bridge/culvert, did anyone else think of a Nazgul searching for a Baggins? ;D Thank you James and all of the Man Lab group for a wonderful hour of laughs! ;D ;D Roll on next Tuesday! ;D

He told me to shut up.

That it was planned, but it's more about how to do it than sitting on the edge of your couch, staring at the screen to see who's gonna win. And also, yes, DMC, I most defo thought of that scene in LotR ;D ;D

I'm probably going to take flack for this too but...I liked the quirky pacing and overall feel of the first season. This season seems more... produced. It's like everything else out there. Still, my whole family enjoyed themselves. If it wasn't James as host, I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it as much. Rory is very amusing.

I enjoyed the Rory bit. That made me laugh out loud! As for the rest - oh I don't know. It was kind of jolly, undemanding entertainment. MOH was grumpy about the compass explanation (not sure why) and questioned the pool table design (again, not sure why) but that's because he takes it all a bit too seriously I suspect..... James is always good fun but I still yearn for something more cerebral from him. I rather liked Oz last night but, for some reason, the tracker irritated the hell out of me!

When James was describing how to do map and compass work, there was a chorus of 'wrong' from man and son, followed by an explanation of the fact that magnetic north is not a constant and therefore bearings have to be modified up to 8 degrees to allow for this. Do I care? No. That's it, that what MOH said too!

How's this for irony? My ex watched Man Lab for the first time this week and tweeted to tell me how much fun it was and how much she enjoyed it.
Ironic how? She's only been a fully-fledged woman since her gender reassignment surgery last month ;D

I can't find the details, but I'm sure James has been ghost-hunting before and wrote an article about it (?) From that clip he isn't the bravest bunny in the toybox, but I doubt I could do better - in fact I know damn well I couldn't!
