Errr what Richards car did a pee?! It leaked brake fluid, I think, after he rammed Jezza's car.

Looks like Chris Evans kicked off TGL London in typical TG style - ambitious but rubbish..... Star in a Reasonably Priced Crash. Chris Evans decided to see how tough our trusty Kia Cee'd was on his lap. The outcome? New doors pleaseNot surprising though, that track is soooo slippery!!!

I had a great day Saturday, both shows were excellent. Paul Swift and his team are absolutely brilliant. The special effects are very good as always. A few things went wrong on Saturday but I love that when it happens, it means the TG3 start adlibbing in true TG3 style! It’s a great show and those from abroad yet to see it are in for a real treat! The whole TGL experience has improved no end this year and long may it continue. Just one thing and I’m not sure what the solution is for this one; the 40 minute gap between the 2 shows is not long enough, (yes if you are lucky you can change the time for the Track show you have been allocated) but if you are Gold/Platinum and want to really enjoy the paddock tour for the Track Show. That aside...job well done guys, keep it up and good luck with the rest of the tour! ;D I’ll put a link to photos in the members thread but here’s a taster...

Back not too long ago from TGL ExCEel (who knew coach journeys took so long? The car and train ones recently were much better). Too tired to contribute tonight, but I have a few comments to put up tomorrow. I've looked at jacqui's pics and they're great, no point in posting mine, though I might have some of Tiff if anyone's interested., I'll see what I can do.

I've knackered again today, I think it was all the walking at the ExCel. Thoughts? Well, the main arena show was much the same each time (I ended up seeing the show twice at the NEC and once at ExCel) though they throw in little jokes and ad-libbed quips, sometimes rather rude, the sort that go above the heads of kids in the audience, but are roared at by the adults. I was going to quote some of them as they were really funny, but it occurs to me that they may re-use some of them on the world tour section and I wouldn't want to spoil anything for those of you catching up on the show abroad. But the way they deliver all the material makes it seem fresh each time (and speaking as someone who acts and also directs plays, to make it seem natural and new is a high-level skill). NEC or ExCel? I was impressed by the ExCel. I was lucky enough to go on a beautiful day, quite exceptional for the time of year. The sky was blue, it was pleasantly warm and I sat outside Thames-side to have lunch, weird as last year I went down to London for James' signing at virtually the same point - 1st December rather than 27th November - and had to fight my way through thick snow! The design is a simple concept; huge areas leading off one central strip. The NEC in contrast seems more quirky and rabbit-warreny - though bloody big warrens! But the ExCel was a little lacking in character because of its size, and the NEC has an atmosphere all of its own. The design of the track at the ExCel was far more straightforward than the NEC which sounds as if it should have been better, but I wasn't sure. As I'd seen it twice seated on gold tickets I decided, as I was standing with a silver ticket, that I would go to the far end to take photos. If that had been my only chance to see the track event I would have been a bit disappointed if I'd chosen to stand in that section. The track was that bit too long, and although the nearby screen was big it was out of synch with the sound and therefore got very irritating. I also think the timing of the track section was too long. A great many, including a lot of children, were standing, and an hour twenty (actually twenty-five) minutes, plus the time you get there in order to get a good place, was just too much. To tie in with the point Jacqui made about timing, I honestly don't think people would have felt ripped-off if the track part had been 60-65 minutes, allowing that bit more to get from one to the other. They were geographically close, but by the times people had paddocked/looed it could have been a push. Was I glad I went to both venues? Yes, I wanted to see how much, if anything it would change. And it was part of my 'Crazy November Birthday Month', my present to me. It all goes dull and quiet now, though I've put in for tickets to the next series of recordings, of course! As we headed for the M25 on the coach I glanced at my watch and realised the guys would just be coming to the end of their last UK TGL performance for 2011. I hope they get time to relax before it all starts up for them again (though I did pick up a tweet that they were filming in Birmingham today on mopeds - I rather hope it's not true, how hard can these guys be pushed?) I also picked up these on the web tonight. Action shot:

I have to say I was very impressed with the ExCel. It wasn't just that the layout of the venue was easier, but that the staff had much more control, and simply did what needed to be done. At no point did I feel stressed or panicked, and at times in Birmingham I did. I also found a lot more to photograph on the floor displays in London - though I didn't brave the self-parking Ford Focus thing (I've driven a car with self-park before and I find it deeply unsettling, even though I'm crap at parking)! I'll probably still go to the NEC next year - I usually do both venues because the halls tend to vary so much anyway - but overall, I thought the Top Gear Live experience was better at ExCel. Also, I had my new camera and front row seats, so I've got some lovely photos. As soon as I manage to get them edited to a more manageable size, I'll share them

At no point did I feel stressed or panicked, and at times in Birmingham I did. Agreed on that point. We were at the very first performances at the NEC, on the Friday, and there were definite logistical problems regarding moving people around in huge numbers. There were moments when Jacqui and I were commenting that there could be real problems if someone fell, or at the point where we had to go down stairs without being able to see where those stairs started. I have to say that some of those problems had been resolved by the time we went to the Saturday afternoon shows, but not all, as they were mainly due to the layout and the huge number of staff needed to keep us all on the move in the right direction. The simplicity of the layout at ExCel meant that essentially staff were just manning the vast doorways and marshalling queues. It was much more straightforward and no hassle, thus no tension. (Edit: if anyone wants to get the flavour of the event (track and arena) this is a three and a half minute well-edited HD bit of video) vimeo.com/32840537

Have an awesome time, jester! Hopefully the weather cools down for the guys next week...going from the beginning of a London winter to the beginning of a Perth summer is a big call. It's a nice feeling knowing you've seen James with your own eyes...and even nicer hearing that voice booming through a stadium.

Don't know how warm it is at the beginning of a Perth summer, but both TGL weekends here in the UK the weather was unseasonably pleasant, particularly last weekend in London, where it was comfortable to wander round without a jacket. It was lovely sitting outside the ExCel with a glass of white wine. The weather's turned around a bit since, of course. Still, it is December now.
