Cats take everything very seriously.
My cat is a serious goofball, but she takes being goofy VERY SERIOUSLY.
I'm still drunk, apologies for any and all stupid posts I'm making.

A hour of science and James May? I am so excited about this! I've never heard of Professor Cox before but any man who can set James on fire and live to tell about it is good in my book.

See if you can find any of the series he did: Wonders of the Universe and Wonders of the Solar System. Amazing stuff.

Does anyone know what "stars" will be there? I could recognize James (obviously), Wossy and Simon Pegg but I don't know enough British celebrities to name anyone else.

What a wonderful programme, I even understood some of it, mostly the bit about wave patterns which I remember studying in physics. Oh to have a brain, and the capacity to understand like Brian Cox. I am sure James would have loved the programme and understood most of it. His experiment was very brief and the hairs on the back of his hands did get singed, but he cast that aside by saying the hairs were making him look a bit gorillarish, and he could do without them. Is it just me that thought that Jonathan Ross was made to look a bit of an idiot?

From Dr Alice Roberts on twitter feed, in response to a question as to when the programme was filmed,
One night in November, and we weren't allowed to reveal the whereabouts in advance... because of that MASSIVE diamond
But more worryingly,
I was sitting right by James May and his hands smelt quite badly of singed flesh!
Another comment (I like the witty ones)
I don't know why everyone says the Brian Cox lecture was hard to understand, I get it totally. James May is made of diamonds. Easy.

I'm afraid physics just ain't my subject, much as I'd like to understand it. Even the charming Prof Cox can't really make it accessible to me (actually, Jim Al Khalili is a better communicator, but he ain't so pretty, so he remains tucked away on BBC 4). I sort of understood bits, but couldn't understand how they related to eachother - electrons, waves, energy levels....wut?
'Twas ever thus.

I enjoyed this program immensely, made me wish i had paid more attention in my Physics lessons Prof Cox makes it all so much more understandable, he obviously has a huge passion for the subject. It was interesting that whenever the camera panned round the audience James could be seen leaning forward, listening intently, absorbing Prof Cox's every word, no doubt he will recite it back to one and all in the Keys, word for word in the very near future.... ;D

I thought this program was excellent. I like Brian Cox. I think he has a good personality for speaking. He obviously has a passion for what he does and conveys that very well. Also, I think he breaks things down well and makes them easy to understand.
I already knew some of it and I understood it. Although, several times I had to pause the show and ask my husband to elaborate on things (the only reason my husband doesn't have a degree in physics is because his university wouldn't let him officially take three majors - his are math and comp sci. But he took all the courses for the physics major and keeps himself current in the field so he was familiar with everything in the program and was able to continue explaining things to me beyond what they covered in the show). I did enjoy the show very much, but that said, physics does make my brain hurt. I have to think very hard and pay attention to understand it. I'm more of a biology/anthropology type.
I laughed at the beginning when James said that he was going to ask Brian Cox about his hair. Loved James's segment as brief as it was.

I uhh...fell asleep in the middle of it yesterday. Give me a half hour or so. OK I know your sleepiness was probably caused by not feeling well and working too hard but it made me chuckle. In college I had two professors that were English, one for Thermal Physics and one for Ichnology. Both classes were after lunch and mostly in the dark due to excessive use of the overhead projector. Their accents, unfortunately, had a soporific effect on me. I'd find myself slouching lower and lower in my seat until my face met the 6 inch pile of books on my desk. It was nighty-night after that. Why couldn't they have been from Brooklyn or Jersey City? Doubt I could have nodded off then.

(Bit of a bump)
Both James and Brian Cox were in the audience of tonight's Dimbleby Lecture shown on BBC, given by Sir Paul Nurse on "The New Enlightement" in science. I missed the first ten minutes, but the rest was excellent, and I particularly like the concept of 'scientific anarchy' at the new Francis Crick Institute in London.
The programme hasn't come up on i-player yet, but doubtless it will.
