I can actually see James walking into any store and buying a shirt because it appeals to him. I do agree he wants quality. Didn't the BFS last a long time?

I don't think Jeremy was referring to James in his column. James has had many cameo roles in Jeremy's rants, but has always been named. JC never protects James' identity - he just lets rip.
I remember them referring to their studio manager, Brian Klein, as a bit of a fashion victim - could have been him. If I remember, he's also the bloke who can't park his Bentley.
I really can't imagine James is seduced by designer labels. I doubt he knows who most of them are.

Can't imagine James being a slave to designer labels. He'd just buy what he likes, whether it's D and G or M and S!

Thats what I said. You can buy something that costs thousands and make it look crap or buy something cheap and make it look nice. You can't buy style no matter what the price tag.

Even though this was taken from a filmed project, the wardrobe is all James (perhaps with the exception of the knit cap). The word "funky" comes to mind.

I'm really not sure about the cap....... My thoughts exactly, James. I don't care for the hat, either.

I like the hat too - it reminds me of the most romantic time in my life when my then James lookalike partner used to come in from work in a similar reflective jacket and cap and hug me as I prepared the evening meal, and nibble my ear and oh!... happy days

It isn't caps per se - I quite like these two. It's that particular cap.

Wasn't it from his visit to the Guinness factory? Probably given it to wear to keep his flowing locks out of the beer!

Good point, Dit; I like this one...not sure why, exactly.. Maybe it is just me...if he has too much hair and wears certain baseball caps, he reminds me of a trucker. It could also be the reflector jacket isn't helping either. I like his locks flowing free in the wind. ;D And yet I like him in beanies/tea cozy hats...He reminds me of a teddy bear that way. **hides**

What is: James_May(dot)Net? This site: jamesmay.dropaheart.org/x/A James May fansite. The image archive is offline atm; the webmistress says the site is on hiatus for the next several weeks. Not sure when it will be back up; it's been down for a month so far. It's a shame - the site had a very extensive collection of images.

I've just found this quote from James about his method of clothes shopping, from his Telegraph column in April 2008. It explains a lot.
So unlike most modern men, I don't really go in for this "clothes shopping'' thing. But once a year or so, I am forced onto the streets of hell to buy some new threads. Here's how the retail experience generally goes. I visit a shop I know and buy a stripey rugby top of some description and a jummy. Maybe a jacket, too, or a coat. Then it's over to Marks 'n' Spencer to replace the pants 'n' socks dissolved by body acids during the previous 12 months. Finally, I enter the high-street discotheque that is The Gap for three pairs of jeans. I buy the Gap ones because I know they fit my oddly proportioned pelvis and I can pluck them from the shelf in complete confidence without having to try them on. The lot of humankind admits of no ordeal more hideous than the trying on of trousers. Then I go home, hang everything up in the wardrobe, put on my 25-year-old smock and get on with something manful, such as polishing the Moto Guzzi, which has an unusual crankcase.

That's how I shop. I never try anything on at the store. I'd much rather take it back.As long as there are Lee jeans and tops that I can get at almost any store I'm set.

I think some furhter 'research' needs to be done on the oddly proportioned pelvis. I shall make haste to the NC.

I'm guilty on all counts of not trying anything on in store as I think they have the mirrors that are installed in fun fairs. My OH goes for the same style jeans all the time and that works for him.(For a change he'll sometimes buy a different shade of denim buts that's when he's feeling adventurous). James' mistake would seem to be that he bulk buys crappy shirts.I like a guy with a little colour in his wardrobe just not all the same time.

Ah, didn't you just have that research! Tis true, LB! Surely you would have noticed anything "odd" in James' pelvic proportions! It's Naughty Corner time!

Since I have worked in retail for longer than I care to admit, I have come to hate clothes shopping, unless I know specifically what it is I am looking for. I usually run in, try it on/inspect it to make sure there are no holes, frays, stains, missing buttons/busted zipper(s) or anything else irreparable in the material and pay for it in 20 minutes if I am on a roll. I really hate dallying in a department store. It brings back bad memories of working there. The Gap is one of the few brands I have noticed that actually makes clothes that tailor to the shape of men and women's figures. I worked for Old Navy many years ago, and they do that on occasion too with women's jeans (for those that don't know, they are owned by The Gap). They are the only ones I have found that have been able to make jeans that fit my butt and waist; they realize that women aren't cut like sticks.

Interestingly (well maybe), Old Navy is one of the few stores where I can go shirt shopping and stuff will actually fit me. Jean shopping's a bit easier for me than shirt shopping. A bit top-heavy.

I can't find anywhere the thread that deals with James' watches (and I've really looked) so I'm dropping this in here - well, watches are things he wears, yes? I'd never realised that there are so many watch-spotting/owning geeks out there and how seriously they take it. I enjoyed reading these today - three detailed breakdowns, starting in 2009 (though printed in reverse order, most recent first) of the watches the TG3 wear. Enjoy. thesydneytarts.blogspot.com.au/search/label/Top%20Gear
